Tunnel catch from potential wells and energy detection

We consider the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator in the semiclassical regime assuming that its double-well potential is the sum of a finite "physically given" well and a square shape probing well whose width or depth can be varied (tuned). We study the dynamics of initial state localized in the physical well. It is shown that if the probing well is not too close to the physical one and if its parameters are specially tuned, then the {\it tunnel catch effect} appears, i.e. the initial state starts tunneling oscillations between the physical and probing wells. The asymptotic formula for the probability of finding the state in the probing well is obtained. We show that the observation of the tunnel catch effect can be used to determine the energy level of the initial state, and we obtain the corresponding asymptotic formula for the initial state energy. We also calculate the leading term of the tunneling splitting of energy levels in this double well potential.

Graphene as a quantum surface with curvature-strain preserving dynamics

We discuss how the curvature and the strain density of the atomic lattice generate the quantization of graphene sheets as well as the dynamics of geometric quasiparticles propagating along the constant curvature/strain levels. The internal kinetic momentum of Riemannian oriented surface (a vector field preserving the Gaussian curvature and the area) is determined.

Quantum Geometry and Quantum Mechanics of Integrable Systems

Quantum integrable systems and their classical counterparts are considered. We show that the symplectic structure and invariant tori of the classical system can be deformed by a quantization parameter $\hbar$ to produce a new (classical) integrable system. The new tori selected by the $\hbar$-equidistance rule represent the spectrum of the quantum system up to $O(\hbar^\infty)$ and are invariant under quantum dynamics in the long-time range $O(\hbar^{-\infty})$. The quantum diffusion over the deformed tori is described. The analytic apparatus uses quantum action-angle coordinates explicitly constructed by an $\hbar$-deformation of the classical action-angles.

Cotangent bundle quantization: Entangling of metric and magnetic field

For manifolds $\cal M$ of noncompact type endowed with an affine connection (for example, the Levi-Civita connection) and a closed 2-form (magnetic field) we define a Hilbert algebra structure in the space $L^2(T^*\cal M)$ and construct an irreducible representation of this algebra in $L^2(\cal M)$. This algebra is automatically extended to polynomial in momenta functions and distributions. Under some natural conditions this algebra is unique. The non-commutative product over $T^*\cal M$ is given by an explicit integral formula. This product is exact (not formal) and is expressed in invariant geometrical terms. Our analysis reveals this product has a front, which is described in terms of geodesic triangles in $\cal M$. The quantization of $δ$-functions induces a family of symplectic reflections in $T^*\cal M$ and generates a magneto-geodesic connection $Γ$ on $T^*\cal M$. This symplectic connection entangles, on the phase space level, the original affine structure on $\cal M$ and the magnetic field. In the classical approximation, the $\hbar^2$-part of the quantum product contains the Ricci curvature of $Γ$ and a magneto-geodesic coupling tensor.

Quantum Magnetic Algebra and Magnetic Curvature

The symplectic geometry of the phase space associated with a charged particle is determined by the addition of the Faraday 2-form to the standard structure on the Euclidean phase space. In this paper we describe the corresponding algebra of Weyl-symmetrized functions in coordinate and momentum operators satisfying nonlinear commutation relations. The multiplication in this algebra generates an associative product of functions on the phase space. This product is given by an integral kernel whose phase is the symplectic area of a groupoid-consistent membrane. A symplectic phase space connection with non-trivial curvature is extracted from the magnetic reflections associated with the Stratonovich quantizer. Zero and constant curvature cases are considered as examples. The quantization with both static and time dependent electromagnetic fields is obtained. The expansion of the product by the deformation parameter, written in the covariant form, is compared with the known deformation quantization formulas.

Quantization and Intrinsic Dynamics

A dynamical scheme of quantization of symplectic manifolds is described. It is based on intrinsic Schrödinger and Heisenberg type nonlinear evolutionary equations with multidimensional time running over the manifold. This is the restricted version of the original article to be published in ``Asymptotic Methods for Wave and Quantum Problems'' (M. Karasev, ed.), Advances in Math. Sci., AMS.

Quantum surfaces, special functions, and the tunneling effect

The notion of quantum embedding is considered for two classes of examples: quantum coadjoint orbits in Lie coalgebras and quantum symplectic leaves in spaces with non-Lie permutation relations. A method for constructing irreducible representations of associative algebras and the corresponding trace formulas over leaves with complex polarization are obtained. The noncommutative product on the leaves incorporates a closed 2-form and a measure which (in general) are different from the classical symplectic form and the Liouville measure. The quantum objects are related to some generalized special functions. The difference between classical and quantum geometrical structures could even occur to be exponentially small with respect to the deformation parameter. That is interpreted as a tunneling effect in the quantum geometry.

Coherent transforms and irreducible representations corresponding to complex structures on a cylinder and on a torus

We study a class of algebras with non-Lie commutation relations whose symplectic leaves are surfaces of revolution: a cylinder or a torus. Over each of such surfaces we introduce a family of complex structures and Hilbert spaces of antiholomorphic sections in which the irreducible Hermitian representations of the original algebra are realized. The reproducing kernels of these spaces are expressed in terms of the Riemann theta-function and its modifications. They generate quantum Kähler structures on the surface and the corresponding quantum reproducing measures. We construct coherent transforms intertwining abstract representations of an algebra with irreducible representations, and these transforms are also expressed via the theta-function.

Symplectic areas, quantization, and dynamics in electromagnetic fields

A gauge invariant quantization in a closed integral form is developed over a linear phase space endowed with an inhomogeneous Faraday electromagnetic tensor. An analog of the Groenewold product formula (corresponding to Weyl ordering) is obtained via a membrane magnetic area, and extended to the product of N symbols. The problem of ordering in quantization is related to different configurations of membranes: a choice of configuration determines a phase factor that fixes the ordering and controls a symplectic groupoid structure on the secondary phase space. A gauge invariant solution of the quantum evolution problem for a charged particle in an electromagnetic field is represented in an exact continual form and in the semiclassical approximation via the area of dynamical membranes.
