On the Pion Distribution Amplitude Shape

We argue that the recent BaBar data on $γ\to π$ e.m. transition form factor at large photon virtuality supports the idea that pion distribution amplitude (DA) is close to unity with $ϕ_π^\prime(0)/6\gg 1$ at a normalization point of $μ=0.6÷0.8$ GeV. Such pion DA can be obtained in the effective chiral quark model. The possible flat shape of the pion DA implies that the standard expansion of the DA in Gegenbauer polynomials can be divergent. On basis of chiral models we predict that the two-pion DA should exhibit anomalous endpoint behaviour for pions in the S-wave and that such feature is absent for higher partial waves. The latter implies that the $ρ, f_2$, etc. meson DAs have no anomalous endpoint behaviour. Possible implications of such pion DA for other hard exclusive processes are shortly discussed.

Nucleon Form Factors from Generalized Parton Distributions

We discuss the links between Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) and elastic nucleon form factors. These links, in the form of sum rules, represent powerful constraints on parametrizations of GPDs. A Regge parametrization for GPDs at small momentum transfer, is extended to the large momentum transfer region and it is found to describe the basic features of proton and neutron electromagnetic form factor data. This parametrization is used to estimate the quark contribution to the nucleon spin.

A novel way to probe distribution amplitudes of neutral mesons in e^+e^- annihilation

We derive the amplitude for the process $e^+e^-\to π^0π^0$ at large invariant energy. The process goes through the two-photon exchange and its amplitude is expressed in terms of the convolution integral which depends on the shape of the pion distribution amplitude (DA) and the centre of mass scattering angle. Remarkable feature of the integral is that it is very sensitive to the end-point behaviour of the pion DA -- it starts to diverge if pion DA nullifies at the end-point as $\sqrt x$ or slower. That makes the $e^+e^-\to π^0π^0$ process unique probe of the shape of the meson DAs. The estimated cross section is rather small, for $\sqrt s = 3$ GeV it ranges from a fraction of femtobarn (for the asymptotic DA) to couple of femtobarn (for the Chernyak-Zhitnitsky DA). The observation of the process $e^+e^-\toπ^0π^0$ with the cross section higher as estimated here would imply very unusual form of the pion DA, e.g. the flat one. The derived amplitude can be easily generalized to other processes like $e^+e^-\to σσ, K_SK_S, ηη, η^\primeη, π^0 f_2$, etc.

Leading Chiral Logarithms for Pion Form Factors to Arbitrary Number of Loops

We develop the method of calculation of the leading chiral (infrared) logarithms to an arbitrary loop order for various form factors of Nambu-Goldstone bosons. The method is illustrated on example of scalar and vector form factors in massless 4D O(N+1)/O(N) sigma-model. The analytical properties of the form factors are derived. The leading chiral (infrared) logarithms are summed up in the large N limit.

New Narrow Nucleon N*(1685)

We argue that the existence of a new narrow (Gamma < 25 MeV) nucleon resonance N*(1685) is strongly supported by recent data on eta photoproduction off the nucleon. The resonance has much stronger photo-coupling to the neutron than to the proton. This nucleon resonance is a good candidate for the non-strange member of the exotic anti-decouplet of baryons -- the partner of the pentaquark Theta+. All up to date known properties of new N*(1685) are summarized.

Chiral Logarithms Tamed

We derive non-linear recursion relations for the leading chiral logarithms (LLs). These relations not only provide a very efficient method of computation of LLs (e.g. the 33-loop contribution is calculated in a dozen of seconds on a PC) but also equip us with a powerful tool for the summation of the LLs. Our method is not limited to the chiral perturbation theory only, it is pertinent for any non-renormalizable effective field theory such as, for instance, the theory of critical phenomena, the low-energy quantum gravity, etc.

Large-N Summation of Chiral Logs for Generalized Parton Distributions

We demonstrate that in the region of Bjorken x ~m_π^2/(4πF_π)^2 and/or x ~|t|/(4πF_π)^2 the standard ChPT for the pion GPDs fails and one must perform all order resummation of ChPT. We perform such resummation in the large-N limit of the O(N+1) extension of the chiral theory. Explicit resummation allows us to reveal novel phenomena -- the form of the leading chiral correction to pion PDFs and GPDs depends on the small-x asymptotic of the pion PDFs. In particular, if the pion PDF in the chiral limit has the Regge-like small x behaviour q(x)~1/x^ω, the leading large impact parameter ($b_\perp\to\infty$) asymptotics of the quark distribution in the transverse plane has the form ($m_π=0$) $q(x,b_\perp)\sim 1/x^ω \ln^ω(b_\perp^2)/b_\perp^{2{(1+ω)}}$. This result is model independent and it is controlled completely by the all order resummed ChPT developed in this paper. This asymptotic interweaves with small-$x$ behaviour of usual PDFs, hence it depends on the scale, at which the corresponding PDF is defined. This is a new and interesting result in which the chiral expansion meets the QCD evolution.

Evidence for a narrow N(1685) resonance in eta photoproduction off the nucleon

Revised analysis of Sigma beam asymmetry for eta photoproduction off the free proton from GRAAL is presented. New analysis reveals a narrow structure near W ~1.685 GeV. We describe this structure by the contribution of a narrow resonance with quantum numbers P_{11}, or P_{13}, or D_{13}. Being considered together with the recent observations of a bump-like structure at W~1.68 GeV in the quasi-free eta photoproduction off the neutron, this result provides an evidence for a narrow (Gamma < 25 MeV) N*(1685) resonance. Properties of this possible new nucleon state, namely the mass, the narrow width, and the much stronger photocoupling to the neutron, are similar to those predicted for the non-strange member of anti-decouplet of exotic baryons.

Breakdown of chiral expansion for parton distributions

In the framework of the chiral perturbation theory we computed two- and three-loop corrections to the pion parton distributions which posses $δ$-function singularities at x->0. This calculation explicitly demonstrates that in the region of small x ~ mpi^2/(4 pi F)^2 standard ChPT breaks down and one needs resummation of all orders. We give an example of such resummation.

Spatial image of reaction area from scattering I: SO_mu(2.1) algebra formalism

We develop general formalism of how to relate scattering amplitudes for exclusive processes to spatial image of target hadron. More precisely we show how to determine the spatial distribution of outgoing particles in the space of so-called nearest approach parameter. This parameter characterizes the position in the coordinate space the place where the final particle is produced.

Photoproduction off the nucleon revisited: Evidence for a narrow N(1688) resonance?

Revised analysis of $Σ$ beam asymmetry for the $η$ photoproduction on the free proton reveals a structure at $W\sim 1.69$ GeV. Fit of the experimental data based on the E429 solution of the SAID partial wave analysis suggests a narrow ($Γ\leq 25$ MeV) resonance. Possible candidates are $P_{11}, P_{13}$, or $D_{13}$ resonances. The result is considered in conjunction with the recent evidence for a bump-like structure at $W\sim 1.67 - 1.68$ GeV in the quasi-free $η$ photoproduction on the neutron.

Educing GPDs from amplitudes of hard exclusive processes

The dual parametrization of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) is considered in details. We discuss which part of information about hadron structure encoded in GPDs [part of total GPD image] can be restored from the known amplitude of a hard exclusive process. The physics content of this partial image is analyzed.

Tomography for amplitudes of hard exclusive processes

We discuss which part of information about hadron structure encoded in the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) [part of total GPD image] can be restored from the known amplitude of a hard exclusive process. The physics content of this partial image is analyzed. Among other things, we show that this partial image contains direct information about how the target hadron responses to the (string) quark-antiquark operator of {\it arbitrary} spin J. Explicit equations relating physics content of the partial image of GPDs directly to the data are derived. Also some new results concerning the dual parametrization of GPDs are presented.

Eta Photoproduction on the proton revisited: Evidence for a narrow N(1685) resonance

Revised analysis of $Σ$ beam asymmetry for $η$ photoproduction on the free proton reveals a resonant structure at $W\sim 1.69$ GeV. Comparison of experimental data with multipole decomposition based on the E429 solution of the SAID partial wave analysis and including narrow states, suggests a narrow ($Γ\leq 15$ MeV) resonance. Possible candidates are $P_{11}$, $P_{13}$, or $D_{13}$ resonances. The result is considered in conjunction with the recent evidence for a bump-like structure at $W\sim 1.67 - 1.68$ GeV in quasi-free $η$ photoproduction on the neutron.

K*-couplings for the antidecuplet excitation

We estimate the coupling of the K* vector meson to the N-->Theta+ transition employing unitary symmetry, vector meson dominance, and results from the GRAAL Collaboration for eta photoproduction off the neutron. Our small numerical value for the coupling constant is consistent with the non-observation of the Theta+ in recent CLAS searches for its photoproduction. We also estimate the K*-coupling for the N-->Sigma* excitation, with Sigma* being the Sigma-like antidecuplet partner of the Theta+-baryon.

Photoproduction of eta-mesons on the deuteron above S11(1535) in the presence of a narrow P11(1670) resonance

Incoherent photoproduction of eta-mesons on the deuteron is considered. The main attention is paid to the region above the S11(1535) resonance where rather narrow resonance like structure in the total cross section extracted for gamma n -> eta n has been reported. The corresponding experimental results are analyzed from the phenomenological standpoint within the model containing a baryon P11 with the mass about 1670 MeV and a width less than 30 MeV. This resonance was suggested in some recent works as a nonstrange member of the pentaquark antidecuplet with J^P=1/2^+. The calculation is also performed for the polarized and nonpolarized angular distributions of $η$ mesons. In addition, we present our predictions for the cross sections of the neutral kaons and double pion photoproduction, where the same narrow P11(1670) resonance is assumed to contribute through the decay into K^0 Lambda and pi Delta configuration.
