Nuclear DVCS at small-x using the color dipole phenomenology

Using the high energy color dipole formalism, we study the coherent and incoherent nuclear DVCS process in the small-x regime. We consider simple models for the elementary dipole-hadron scattering amplitude that captures main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. Using the obtained amplitudes we make predictions for the nuclear DVCS cross section at photon level in the collider kinematics.

Exclusive photoproduction of dileptons at high energies

The exclusive photoproduction of lepton pairs on nucleon and nucleus target is investigated within the high energy color dipole approach, where the main physical quantity is the dipole-target elastic scattering amplitude that captures the main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. These calculations are input in predictions for electromagnetic interactions in pp and AA collisions to be measured at the LHC.

Investigating the high energy QCD approaches for prompt photon production at the LHC

We investigate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the prompt photon production at the CERN LHC energies considering the current perturbative QCD approaches for this scattering process. Namely, we compare the predictions from the usual NLO pQCD calculations to the the color dipole formalism, using distinct dipole cross sections. Special attention is paid to parton saturation models at high energies, which are expected to be important at the forward rapidities in pp collisions at the LHC.

Investigating the exclusive protoproduction of dileptons at high energies

Using the high energy color dipole approach, we study the exclusive photoproduction of lepton pairs. We use simple models for the elementary dipole-hadron scattering amplitude that captures main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. This investigation is complementary to conventional partonic description of timelike Compton scattering, which considers quark handbag diagrams at leading order in $α_s$ and simple models of the relevant generalized parton distributions (GPDs). These calculations are input in electromagnetic interactions in pp and AA collisions to measured at the LHC.

Hard diffractive quarkonium hadroproduction at high energies

We present a study of heavy quarkonium production in hard diffractive process by the Pomeron exchange for Tevatron and LHC energies. The numerical results are computed using recent experimental determination of the diffractive parton density functions in Pomeron and are corrected by unitarity corrections through gap survival probability factor. We give predictions for single as well as central diffractive ratios. These processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the Pomeron at small Bjorken-x and may be particularly useful in studying the small-x physics. They may also be a good place to test the different available mechanisms for quarkonium production at hadron colliders.

An estimation of single and double diffractive heavy flavour production in hadron-hadron colliders

Results from a phenomenological analysis for diffractive hadroproduction of heavy flavors at high energies are reported. Diffractive production of charm, bottom and top are calculated using Regge factorization, taking into account recent experimental determination of the diffractive parton density functions in Pomeron by the H1 Collaboration at DESY-HERA. In addition, multiple-Pomeron corrections are considered through the rapidity gap survival probability factor. We give numerical predictions for single diffractive as well as double Pomeron exchange (DPE) cross sections, which agree with the available data for diffractive production of charm and beauty. We make estimates which could be compared to future measurements at the LHC.

Quarkonium production in coherent hadron-hadron interactions at the LHC

The photoproduction of quarkonium in coherent hadron-hadron (pp/pA/AA$) interactions for LHC energies is an important tool to investigate the QCD dynamics at high energies. In this paper we estimate the integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for J/Psi and Upsilon production using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. We predict large rates, implying that the experimental identification could be feasible at the LHC.

Thermal Dileptons at LHC

We predict dilepton invariant-mass spectra for central 5.5 ATeV Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. Hadronic emission in the low-mass region is calculated using in-medium spectral functions of light vector mesons within hadronic many-body theory. In the intermediate-mass region thermal radiation from the Quark-Gluon Plasma, evaluated perturbatively with hard-thermal loop corrections, takes over. An important source over the entire mass range are decays of correlated open-charm hadrons, rendering the nuclear modification of charm and bottom spectra a critical ingredient.

Diffractive hadroproduction of W and Z bosons at high energies

Results from a phenomenological analysis of $W$ and $Z$ hard diffractive hadroproduction at high energies are reported. Using the Regge factorization approach, we consider the recent diffractive parton density functions extracted by the H1 Collaboration at DESY-HERA. In addition, we take into account multiple Pomeron exchange corrections considering a gap survival probability factor. It is find that the ratio of diffractive to non-diffractive boson production is in good agreement with the CDF and D0 data. We make predictions which could be compared to future measurements at the LHC.

Quarkonium production in coherent pp/AA collisions and small-x physics

In this contribution we study the photoproduction of quarkonium in coherent proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus interactions at the LHC. The integrated cross sections and rapidity distributions are estimated using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism, which takes into account the parton saturation effects at high energies. Nuclear shadowing effects are also taken into account.

High energy electroweak DVCS processes in neutrino-nucleon scattering

In this work we estimate the differential and total cross sections for the high energy deeply virtual Compton scattering in the weak sector. In the weak neutral sector one considers neutrino scattering off an unpolarized proton target through the exchange of Z0. We numerically compute the process Z* p --> γp within the QCD color dipole formalism, which successfully describes the current high energy electromagnetic DVCS experimental data. We also discuss possible applications for the weak charged sector and perform predictions for scattering on nuclear targets.

Probing QCD dynamics in two-photon interactions at high energies

In this paper the two-photon interactions at high energies are investigated considering different approaches for the QCD dynamics. In particular, we calculate the $γ^* γ^*$ total cross section in different theoretical approches and present a comparison among the predictions of the BFKL dynamics at leading and next-to-leading order with those from saturation physics. We analyze the possibility that the future linear colliders could discriminate between these different approaches.

Saturation Physics in Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays: Heavy Quark Production

In this work we estimate the heavy quark production in the interaction of ultra high energy cosmic rays in the atmosphere, considering that the primary cosmic ray is a proton or a photon. At these energies the saturation momentum Q_{sat}^2 stays above the hard scale μ_c^2=4m_c^2, implying charm production probing the saturation regime. In particular, we show that the ep HERA data presents a scaling on τ_c = (Q^2+μ_c^2)/Q_{sat}^2. We derive our results considering the dipole picture and the Color Glass Condensate formalism, which one shows to be able to describe the heavy quark production in photon-proton and proton-proton collisions. Nuclear effects are considered in computation of cross sections for scattering on air nuclei. Implications on the flux of prompt leptons at the earth are analyzed and a large suppression is predicted.

Photoproduction at collider energies: from RHIC and HERA to the LHC

We present the mini-proceedings of the workshop on ``Photoproduction at collider energies: from RHIC and HERA to the LHC'' held at the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*, Trento) from January 15 to 19, 2007. The workshop gathered both theorists and experimentalists to discuss the current status of investigations of high-energy photon-induced processes at different colliders (HERA, RHIC, and Tevatron) as well as preparations for extension of these studies at the LHC. The main physics topics covered were: (i) small-$x$ QCD in photoproduction studies with protons and in electromagnetic (aka. ultraperipheral) nucleus-nucleus collisions, (ii) hard diffraction physics at hadron colliders, and (iii) photon-photon collisions at very high energies: electroweak and beyond the Standard Model processes. These mini-proceedings consist of an introduction and short summaries of the talks presented at the meeting.

High energy DVCS on a photon and related meson exclusive production

In this work we estimate the differential cross section for the high energy deeply virtual Compton scattering on a photon target within the QCD dipole-dipole scattering formalism. For the phenomenology, a saturation model for the dipole-dipole cross section for two photon scattering is considered. Its robustness is supported by good description of current accelerator data. In addition, we consider the related exclusive vector meson production processes. This analysis is focused on the light $ρ$ and $ϕ$ meson production, which produce larger cross sections. The phenomenological results are compared with the theoretical calculation using the CD BFKL approach.

In this contribution we present an exploratory QCD analysis of the neutrino structure functions in charged current DIS using the color dipole formalism. The corresponding dipole cross sections are taken from recent phenomenological and theoretical studies in deep inelastic inclusive production, including nuclear shadowing corrections. The theoretical predictions are compared to the available experimental results in the small-x region.

Diffractive photoproduction of heavy quarks in hadronic collisions

In this letter we study the diffractive photoproduction of heavy quarks in hadronic (pp/pA/AA) interactions for Tevatron and LHC energies. The integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for the process h_1 h_2 --> h_1 h_2 QQBAR (h_i = p,A and Q = c,b) are estimated using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. Our results indicate that this production channel has larger cross sections than the competing reactions of double diffractive production and coherent AA reactions initiated by two-photon collisions.
