On the Unit Teissier Distribution: Properties, Estimation Procedures and Applications

The Teissier distribution, originally proposed by Teissier [31], was designed to model mortality due to aging in domestic animals. More recently, Krishna et al. [19] introduced the Unit Teissier (UT) distribution on the interval (0, 1) through the transformation $X=e^{-Y}$, where $Y$ follows the Teissier distribution. In their work, the authors derived several fundamental properties of the UT distribution and investigated parameter estimation using maximum likelihood, least squares, weighted least squares and Bayesian methods. Building upon this work, the present paper develops additional theoretical and inferential results for the UT distribution. In particular, closed-form expressions for single moments of order statistics and L-moments are obtained, and characterization results based on truncated moments are established. Furthermore, several alternative parameter estimation methods are considered, including maximum product of spacings, Cramér-von Mises, Anderson-Darling, right-tail Anderson-Darling, percentile and L-moment estimation, while the estimation methods previously studied by Krishna et al. [19] are also included for comparison. Extensive simulation studies under various parameter settings and sample sizes are conducted to assess and compare the performance of the estimators. Finally, the flexibility and practical utility of the UT distribution are demonstrated using a real dataset.

A Note on NBUE and NWBUE Classes of Life Distributions

Non-monotonic ageing notions are looked upon as an extension of the corresponding monotonic ageing notions in this work. In particular, the New Better than Used in Expectation (NBUE) and the corresponding non-monotonic analogue New Worse then Better than Used in Expectation (NWBUE) classes of life distributions is considered. Some additional results for the NBUE class are obtained. While many properties of the NBUE class carry over in an analogous way to the NWBUE class, it is shown by means of counterexamples that the moment bounds do not. Some corrective results with respect to popular notions of the NWBUE class are also presented.

Some More Properties of the Unit-Gompertz Distribution

In a recent paper, Mazucheli et al. (2019) introduced the unit-Gompertz (UG) distribution and studied some of its properties. It is a continuous distribution with bounded support, and hence may be useful for modelling life-time phenomena. We present counter-examples to point out some subtle errors in their work, and subsequently correct them. We also look at some other interesting properties of this new distribution. Further, we also study some important reliability measures and consider some stochastic orderings associated with this new distribution.

Characterization of Sine- Skewed von Mises Distribution

The von Mises distribution is one of the most important distribution in statistics to deal with circular data. In this paper we will consider some basic properties and characterizations of the sine skewed von Mises distribution.

Tests for exponentiality against NBUE alternatives: a Monte Carlo comparison

Testing of various classes of life distributions has been addressed in the literature for more than 45 years. In this paper, we consider the problem of testing exponentiality (which essentially implies no ageing) against positive ageing which is captured by the fairly large class of new better than used in expectation (NBUE) distributions. These tests of exponentiality against NBUE alternatives are discussed and compared. The empirical size of the tests is obtained by simulations. Power comparisons for different popular alternatives are done using Monte Carlo simulations. These comparisons are made for both small and large sample sizes. The paper concludes with a discussion in which suggestions are made regarding the choices of the test when a particular alternative is suspected.

The exact null distribution of the generalized Hollander-Proschan type test for NBUE alternatives

In this note we derive the exact null distribution for the test statistic proposed by Anis and Mitra (2011) for testing exponentiality against NBUE alternatives. As a special case, we obtain the exact null distribution for the test statistic proposed by Hollander and Proschan (1975). Selected critical values for different size are tabulated for these two statistics. Some remarks concerning the benefits of using the exact distribution are made.
