Higher derivative quartic vertex of $f(R)$ gravity in light-cone gauge

In the recent studies of four-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action, quite a few interesting results such as the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations, MHV-Lagrangian and quadratic forms have been reported. These results naturally raise an important question: Whether these results are valid for the modified theories of gravity in 4-dimensions? In this work, we consider $R+α\,R^2$ gravity and derive the complete quartic interaction vertex in light-cone gauge. We then discuss the implications of the results for KLT relations, and computing MHV amplitudes.

Gravitation and quadratic forms

The light-cone Hamiltonians describing both pure Yang-Mills and N=4 super Yang-Mills may be expressed as quadratic forms. Here, we show that this feature extends to theories of gravity. We demonstrate how the Hamiltonians of both pure gravity and N=8 supergravity, in four dimensions, may be written as quadratic forms. We examine the effect of residual reparametrizations on the Hamiltonian and the resulting quadratic form.

Yang-Mills theories and quadratic forms

We show that the Hamiltonian of (N=1;d=10) super Yang-Mills can be expressed as a quadratic form in a very similar manner to that of the (N=4;d=4) theory. We find a similar quadratic form structure for pure Yang-Mills theory but this feature, in the non-supersymmetric case, seems to be unique to four dimensions. We discuss some consequences of this feature.

Light-cone gravity in dS$_4$

We derive a closed form expression for the light-cone Lagrangian describing pure gravity on a four-dimensional de Sitter background. We provide a perturbative expansion, of this Lagrangian, to cubic order in the fields.

Light-cone gravity in AdS$_{4}$

We obtain a closed form expression for the Action describing pure gravity, in light-cone gauge, in a four-dimensional Anti de Sitter background. We perform a perturbative expansion of this closed form result to extract the cubic interaction vertex in this gauge.
