On the controllability and stabilization of the linearized Benjamin equation on a periodic domain

In this work we study the controllability and stabilization of the linearized Benjamin equation which models the unidirectional propagation of long waves in a two-fluid system where the lower fluid with greater density is infinitely deep and the interface is subject to capillarity. We show that the linearized Benjamin equation with periodic boundary conditions is exactly controllable and exponentially stabilizable with any given decay rate in $H_{p}^{s}(\mathbb{T})$ with $s\geq0$.

On the Schrödinger-Debye System in Compact Riemannian Manifolds

We consider the initial value problem (IVP) associated to the Schrödinger-Debye system posed on a $d$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold $M$ and prove local well-posedness result for given data $(u_0, v_0)\in H^s(M)\times (H^s(M)\cap L^{\infty}(M))$ whenever $s>\frac{d}2-\frac12$, $d\geq 2$. For $d=2$, we apply a sharp version of the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality in compact manifold to derive an a priori estimate for the $H^1$-solution and use it to prove the global well-posedness result in this space.

On the periodic Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

We consider the Cauchy problem associated with the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, posed on $\mathbb{T}^2$. We prove the local well-posedness for given data in $H^s(\mathbb{T}^2)$ whenever $s>5/3$. More importantly, we prove that this equation is of quasi-linear type for initial data in any Sobolev space on the torus, in sharp contrast with its semi-linear character in the $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}$ settings.

Well-posedness for multicomponent Schrodinger-gKdV systems and stability of solitary waves with prescribed mass

In this paper we prove the well-posedness issues of the associated initial value problem, the existence of nontrivial solutions with prescribed $L^2$-norm, and the stability of associated solitary waves for two classes of coupled nonlinear dispersive equations. The first problem here describes the nonlinear interaction between two Schrödinger type short waves and a generalized Korteweg-de Vries type long wave and the second problem describes the nonlinear interaction of two generalized Korteweg-de Vries type long waves with a common Schrödinger type short wave. The results here extend many of the previously obtained results for two-component coupled Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries systems.

On the well-posedness of higher order viscous Burgers' equations

We consider higher order viscous Burgers' equations with generalized nonlinearity and study the associated initial value problems for given data in the $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. We introduce appropriate time weighted spaces to derive multilinear estimates and use them in the contraction mapping principle argument to prove local well-posedness for data with Sobolev regularity below $L^2$. We also prove ill-posedness for this type of models and show that the local well-posedness results are sharp in some particular cases viz., when the orders of dissipation $p$, and nonlinearity $k+1$, satisfy a relation $p=2k+1$.

Sharp local well-posedness of KdV type equations with dissipative perturbations

In this work, we study the initial value problems associated to some linear perturbations of KdV equations. Our focus is in the well-posedness issues for initial data given in the $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. We derive bilinear estimate in a space with weight in the time variable and obtain sharp local well-posedness results.

On the Cauchy problem for a Boussinesq type system

We consider the initial value problem (IVP) associated to a Boussinesq type system. After rewriting the system in an equivalent form of coupled KdV-type equations, we prove that this is locally well-posed in $(H^s(\R^2))^4$, $s>3/2$, using sharp smoothing estimates. Consequently we obtain the local well-posedness result for the original system in $H^s\times \mathcal{V}^{s+1}$ for $s>3/2$ (see below for the definition of $\mathcal{V}^{s}$).

Global Well-Posedness for a Coupled Modified KdV System

We prove the sharp global well-posedness results for the initial value problems (IVPs) associated to the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation and a system modeled by the coupled modified Korteweg-de Vries equations (mKdV-system). To obtain our results we use the second generation of the modified energy and almost conserved quantities, more precisely, the refined I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and Tao.

On uniqueness and decay of solution for Hirota equation

We address the question of the uniqueness of solution to the initial value problem associated to the equation \partial_{t}u+iα\partial^{2}_{x}u+β \partial^{3}_{x}u+iγ|u|^{2}u+δ|u|^{2}\partial_{x}u+εu^{2}\partial_{x}\bar{u} = 0, \quad x,t \in \R, and prove that a certain decay property of the difference $u_1-u_2$ of two solutions $u_1$ and $u_2$ at two different instants of times $t=0$ and $t=1$, is sufficient to ensure that $u_1=u_2$ for all the time.

On the ill-posedness result for the BBM equation

We prove that the initial value problem (IVP) for the BBM equation is ill-posed for data in $H^s(\R)$, $s<0$ in the sense that the flow-map $u_0\mapsto u(t)$ that associates to initial data $u_0$ the solution $u$ cannot be continuous at the origin from $H^s(\R)$ to even $\mathcal{D}'(\R)$ at any fixed $t>0$ small enough. This result is sharp.

On KP-II type equations on cylinders

In this article we study the generalized dispersion version of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili II equation, on $\T \times \R$ and $\T \times \R^2$. We start by proving bilinear Strichartz type estimates, dependent only on the dimension of the domain but not on the dispersion. Their analogues in terms of Bourgain spaces are then used as the main tool for the proof of bilinear estimates of the nonlinear terms of the equation and consequently of local well-posedness for the Cauchy problem.

A remark on global well-posedness below L^2 for the gKdV-3 equation

The I-method in its first version as developed by Colliander et al. is applied to prove that the Cauchy-problem for the generalised Korteweg-de Vries equation of order three (gKdV-3) is globally well-posed for large real-valued data in the Sobolev space H^s, provided s>-1/42.
