Graph-Theoretic Analysis of Phase Optimization Complexity in Variational Wave Functions for Heisenberg Antiferromagnets

We study the computational complexity of learning the ground state phase structure of Heisenberg antiferromagnets. Representing Hilbert space as a weighted graph, the variational energy defines a weighted XY model that, for $\mathbb{Z}_2$ phases, reduces to a classical antiferromagnetic Ising model on that graph. For fixed amplitudes, reconstructing the signs of the ground state wavefunction thus reduces to a weighted Max-Cut instance. This establishes that ground state phase reconstruction for Heisenberg antiferromagnets is worst-case NP-hard and links the task to combinatorial optimization.

Probing Quantum Spin Systems with Kolmogorov-Arnold Neural Network Quantum States

Neural Quantum States (NQS) are a class of variational wave functions parametrized by neural networks (NNs) to study quantum many-body systems. In this work, we propose \texttt{SineKAN}, a NQS \textit{ansatz} based on Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs), to represent quantum mechanical wave functions as nested univariate functions. We show that \texttt{SineKAN} wavefunction with learnable sinusoidal activation functions can capture the ground state energies, fidelities and various correlation functions of the one dimensional Transverse-Field Ising model, Anisotropic Heisenberg model, and Antiferromagnetic $J_{1}-J_{2}$ model with different chain lengths. In our study of the $J_1-J_2$ model with $L=100$ sites, we find that the \texttt{SineKAN} model outperforms several previously explored neural quantum state \textit{ansätze}, including Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBMs), Long Short-Term Memory models (LSTMs), and Multi-layer Perceptrons (MLP) \textit{a.k.a.} Feed Forward Neural Networks, when compared to the results obtained from the Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) algorithm. We find that \texttt{SineKAN} models can be trained to high precisions and accuracies with minimal computational costs.

Enhancing quantum utility: simulating large-scale quantum spin chains on superconducting quantum computers

We present the quantum simulation of the frustrated quantum spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chain with competing nearest-neighbor $(J_1)$ and next-nearest-neighbor $(J_2)$ exchange interactions in the real superconducting quantum computer with qubits ranging up to 100. In particular, we implement, for the first time, the Hamiltonian with the next-nearest neighbor exchange interaction in conjunction with the nearest neighbor interaction on IBM's superconducting quantum computer and carry out the time evolution of the spin chain by employing first-order Trotterization. Furthermore, our novel implementation of second-order Trotterization for the isotropic Heisenberg spin chain, involving only nearest-neighbor exchange interaction, enables precise measurement of the expectation values of staggered magnetization observable across a range of up to 100 qubits. Notably, in both cases, our approach results in a constant circuit depth in each Trotter step, independent of the initial number of qubits. Our demonstration of the accurate measurement of expectation values for the large-scale quantum system using superconducting quantum computers designates the quantum utility of these devices for investigating various properties of many-body quantum systems. This will be a stepping stone to achieving the quantum advantage over classical ones in simulating quantum systems before the fault tolerance quantum era.

Probing the Dark Matter of Three-loop Radiative Neutrino Mass Generation Model with the Cherenkov Telescope Array

We investigate the prospect of detecting the Dark Matter (DM) candidate in the three-loop radiative neutrino mass generation model extended with large electroweak multiplets of the Standard Model (SM) gauge group, at the future imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope known as the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA). We find that the addition of such large electroweak multiplets leads to a sizable Sommerfeld enhanced annihilation of the DM with $O(\text{TeV})$ mass, into the SM gauge bosons which results in continuum and line-like spectra of very high energy (VHE) gamma-rays, and therefore becomes observable for the CTA. We determine the viable models by setting the upper limit on the $SU(2)_{L}$ isospin of the multiplets from the partial-wave unitarity constraints and the appearance of low-scale Landau pole in the gauge coupling. Afterwards, by considering the continuum VHE gamma-rays produced from the DM annihilation at the Galactic center, we probe the parameter space of the model using the sensitivity reach of the CTA.
