Spectral gap for stochastic energy exchange model with nonuniformly positive rate function

We give a lower bound on the spectral gap for a class of stochastic energy exchange models. In 2011, Grigo et al. introduced the model and showed that, for a class of stochastic energy exchange models with a uniformly positive rate function, the spectral gap of an $N$-component system is bounded from below by a function of order $N^{-2}$. In this paper, we consider the case where the rate function is not uniformly positive. For this case, the spectral gap depends not only on $N$ but also on the averaged energy $\mathcal{E}$, which is the conserved quantity under the dynamics. Under some assumption, we obtain a lower bound of the spectral gap which is of order $C(\mathcal{E})N^{-2}$ where $C(\mathcal{E})$ is a positive constant depending on $\mathcal {E}$. As a corollary of the result, a lower bound of the spectral gap for the mesoscopic energy exchange process of billiard lattice studied by Gaspard and Gilbert [J. Stat. Mech. Theory Exp. 2008 (2008) p11021, J. Stat. Mech. Theory Exp. 2009 (2009) p08020] and the stick process studied by Feng et al. [Stochastic Process. Appl. 66 (1997) 147-182] are obtained.

From normal diffusion to superdiffusion of energy in the evanescent flip noise limit

We consider a harmonic chain perturbed by an energy conserving noise depending on a parameter $γ$. When $γ$ is of order one, the energy diffuses according to the standard heat equation after a space-time diffusive scaling. On the other hand, when $γ=0$, the energy superdiffuses according to a 3/4 fractional heat equation after a subdiffusive space-time scaling. In this paper, we study the existence of a crossover between these two regimes as a function of $γ$.

Eigenvalue problem for some special class of anti-triangular matrices

We study the eigenvalue problem for some special class of anti-triangular matrices. Though the eigenvalue problem is quite classical, as far as we know, almost nothing is known about properties of eigenvalues for anti-triangular matrices. In this paper, we show that there is a nice class of anti-triangular matrices whose eigenvalues are given explicitly by their elements. Moreover, this class contains several interesting subclasses which we characterize in terms of probability measures. We also discuss the application of our main theorem to the study of interacting particle systems, which are stochastic processes studied in extensive literature.

On the spectral gap of the kac walk and other binary collision processes on $d$-dimensional lattice

We give a lower bound on the spectral gap for a class of binary collision processes. In 2008, Caputo showed that, for a class of binary collision processes given by simple averages on the complete graph, the analysis of the spectral gap of an $N$-component system is reduced to that of the same system for N=3 In this paper, we give a comparison technique to reduce the analysis of the spectral gap of binary collision processes given by simple averages on $d$-dimensional lattice to that on the complete graph. We also give a comparison technique to reduce the analysis of the spectral gap of binary collision processes which are not given by simple averages to that given by simple averages. Combining them with Caputo's result, we give a new and elementary method to obtain spectral gap estimates. The method applies to a number of binary collision processes on the complete graph and also on d-dimensional lattice, including a class of energy exchange models which was recently introduced in by Grigo et al., and zero-range processes.

Macroscopic energy diffusion for a chain of anharmonic oscillators

We study the energy diffusion in a chain of anharmonic oscillators where the Hamiltonian dynamics is perturbed by a local energy conserving noise. We prove that under diffusive rescaling of space-time, energy fluctuations diffuse and evolve following an infinite dimensional linear stochastic differential equation driven by the linearized heat equation. We also give variational expressions for the thermal diffusivity and some upper and lower bounds.

Fluctuations in an Evolutional Model of Two-Dimensional Young Diagrams

We discuss the non-equilibrium fluctuation problem, which corresponds to the hydrodynamic limit established in \cite{FS}, for the dynamics of two-dimensional Young diagrams associated with the uniform and restricted uniform statistics, and derive linear stochastic partial differential equations in the limit. We show that their invariant measures are identical to the Gaussian measures which appear in the fluctuation limits in the static situations.

Hydrodynamic limit for particle systems with degenerate rates without exclusive constraints

We consider the hydrodynamic behavior of some conservative particle systems with degenerate jump rates without exclusive constraints. More precisely, we study the particle systems without restrictions on the total number of particles per site with nearest neighbor exchange rates which vanish for certain configurations. Due to the degeneracy of the rates, there exists blocked configurations which do not evolve under the dynamics and all of the hyperplanes of configurations with a fixed number particles can be decomposed into different irreducible sets. We show that, for initial profiles smooth enough and bounded away from zero, the macroscopic density profile evolves under the diffusive time scaling according to a nonlinear diffusion equation (which we call the modified porous medium equation). The proof is based on the Relative Entropy method but it cannot be straightforwardly applied because of the degeneracy.

Hydrodynamic limit for two-species exclusion processes

We consider two-species exclusion processes on the d-dimensional discrete torus taking the effects of exchange, creation and annihilation into account. The model is, in general, of nongradient type. We prove that the (charged) particle density converges to the solution of a certain nonlinear diffusion equation under the diffusive rescaling in space and time. We also prove a lower bound on the spectral gap for the generator of the process confined in a finite volume.

Hydrodynamic limit for an evolutional model of two-dimensional Young diagrams

We construct dynamics of two-dimensional Young diagrams, which are naturally associated with their grandcanonical ensembles, by allowing the creation and annihilation of unit squares located at the boundary of the diagrams. The grandcanonical ensembles, which were introduced by Vershik, are uniform measures under conditioning on their size (or equivalently, area). We then show that, as the averaged size of the diagrams diverges, the corresponding height variable converges to a solution of a certain non-linear partial differential equation under a proper hydrodynamic scaling. Furthermore, the stationary solution of the limit equation is identified with the so-called Vershik curve. We discuss both uniform and restricted uniform statistics for the Young diagrams.
