Bridging National and International Legal Data: Two Projects Based on the Japanese Legal Standard XML Schema for Comparative Law Studies

This paper presents an integrated framework for computational comparative law by connecting two consecutive research projects based on the Japanese Legal Standard (JLS) XML schema. The first project establishes structural interoperability by developing a conversion pipeline from JLS to the Akoma Ntoso (AKN) standard, enabling Japanese statutes to be integrated into international LegalDocML-based legislative databases. Building on this foundation, the second project applies multilingual embedding models and semantic textual similarity techniques to identify corresponding provisions across national legal systems. A prototype system combining multilingual embeddings, FAISS retrieval, and Cross-Encoder reranking generates candidate correspondences and visualizes them as cross-jurisdictional networks for exploratory comparative analysis.

QuDASH: Quantum-inspired rate adaptation approach for DASH video streaming

Internet traffic is dramatically increasing with the development of network technologies and video streaming traffic accounts for large amount within the total traffic, which reveals the importance to guarantee the quality of content delivery service. Based on the network conditions, adaptive bitrate (ABR) control is utilized as a common technique which can choose the proper bitrate to ensure the video streaming quality. In this paper, new bitrate control method, QuDASH is proposed by taking advantage of the emerging quantum technology. In QuDASH, the adaptive control model is developed using the quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO), which aims at increasing the average bitrate and decreasing the video rebuffering events to maximize the user quality of experience (QoE). In order to formulate the video control model, first the QUBO terms of different factors are defined regarding video quality, bitrate change, and buffer condition. Then, all the individual QUBO terms are merged to generate an objective function. By minimizing the QUBO objective function, the bitrate choice is determined from the solution. The control model is solved by Digital Annealer, which is a quantum-inspired computing technology. The evaluation of the proposed method is carried out by simulation with the throughput traces obtained in real world under different scenarios and the comparison with other methods is conducted. Experiment results demonstrated that the proposed QuDASH method has better performance in terms of QoE compared with other advanced ABR methods. In 68.2% of the examined cases, QuDASH achieves the highest QoE results, which shows the superiority of the QuDASH over conventional methods.

Numerical accuracy and stability of semilinear Klein--Gordon equation in de Sitter spacetime

Numerical simulations of the semilinear Klein--Gordon equation in the de Sitter spacetime are performed. We use two structure-preserving discrete forms of the Klein--Gordon equation. The disparity between the two forms is the discretization of the differential term. We show that one of the forms has higher numerical stability and second-order numerical accuracy with respect to the grid, and we explain the reason for the instability of the other form.

Numerical simulations of semilinear Klein--Gordon equation in the de Sitter spacetime with structure-preserving scheme

We perform some simulations of the semilinear Klein--Gordon equation in the de Sitter spacetime. We reported the accurate numerical results of the equation with the structure-preserving scheme (SPS) in an earlier publication (Tsuchiya and Nakamura in J. Comput. Appl. Math. \textbf{361}: 396--412, 2019). To investigate the factors for the stability and accuracy of the numerical results with SPS, we perform some simulations with three discretized formulations. The first formulation is the discretized equations with SPS, the second one is with SPS that replaces the second-order difference as the standard second-order central difference, and the third one is with SPS that replaces the discretized nonlinear term as the standard discretized expression. As a result, the above two replacements in SPS are found to be effective for accurate simulations. On the other hand, the ingenuity of replacing the second-order difference in the first formulation is not effective for maintaining the stability of the simulations.

The Cauchy problem for a semilinear ordinary differential equation in the homogeneous and isotropic spacetime

A semilinear ordinary differential equation is derived from a semilinear Schrödinger equation in the homogeneous and isotropic spacetime by the Ehrenfest theorem. The Cauchy problem for the equation is considered. Exact solutions and nonexistence of global weak solutions of the equation are also considered in the de Sitter spacetime. The effects of spatial expansion and contraction are studied.

On the numerical experiments of the Cauchy problem for semi-linear Klein-Gordon equations in the de Sitter spacetime

The computational analysis of the Cauchy problem for semi-linear Klein-Gordon equations in the de Sitter spacetime is considered. Several simulations are performed to show the time-global behaviors of the solutions of the equations in the spacetime based on the structure-preserving scheme. It is remarked that the sufficiently large Hubble constant yields the strong diffusion-effect which gives the long and stable simulations for the defocusing semi-linear terms. The reliability of the simulations is confirmed by the preservation of the numerically modified Hamiltonian of the equations.

On the derivation of several second order partial differential equations from a generalization of the Einstein equation

A generalization of the Einstein equation is considered for complex line elements. Several second order semilinear partial differential equations are derived from it as semilinear field equations in uniform and isotropic spaces. The nonrelativistic limits of the field equations are also considered. The roles of spatial variance are studied based on energy estimates, and several dissipative or antidissipative properties are remarked.

On the nonrelativistic limit of a semilinear field equation in a uniform and isotropic space

The nonrelativistic limit of a semilinear field equation is considered in a uniform and isotropic space. The scale-function of the space is constructed based on the Einstein equation. The Cauchy problem of the limit-equation is considered, and global and blow-up solutions are shown in Sobolev spaces. The role of spatial variance on the problem is studied, and some dissipative properties of the limit-equation are remarked.

Improving the Description of Nonmagnetic and Magnetic Molecular Crystals via the van der Waals Density Functional

We have derived and implemented a stress tensor formulation for the van derWaals density functional (vdW-DF) with spin-polarization-dependent gradient correction (GC) recently proposed by the authors [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 82, 093701 (2013)] and applied it to nonmagnetic and magnetic molecular crystals under ambient condition. We found that the cell parameters of the molecular crystals obtained with vdW-DF show an overall improvement compared with those obtained using local density and generalized gradient approximations. In particular, the original vdW-DF with GC gives the equilibrium structural parameters of solid oxygen in the α-phase, which are in good agreement with the experiment.

An ab initio approach to free-energy reconstruction using logarithmic mean force dynamics

We present an ab initio approach for evaluating a free energy profile along a reaction coordinate by combining logarithmic mean force dynamics (LogMFD) and first-principles molecular dynamics. The mean force, which is the derivative of the free energy with respect to the reaction coordinate, is estimated using density functional theory (DFT) in the present approach, which is expected to provide an accurate free energy profile along the reaction coordinate. We apply this new method, first-principles LogMFD (FP-LogMFD), to a glycine dipeptide molecule and reconstruct one- and two-dimensional free energy profiles in the framework of DFT. The resultant free energy profile is compared with that obtained by the thermodynamic integration method and by the previous LogMFD calculation using an empirical force-field, showing that FP-LogMFD is a promising method to calculate free energy without empirical force-fields.

Implementation of van der Waals Density Functional Approach to the Spin-Polarized System: Interaction Potential between Oxygen Molecules

We propose a practical approach to spin-polarized systems within the van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF). The method was applied to a gas phase oxygen molecule and a parallel (H-type) pair of oxygen molecules. It was found that vdW-DF improves the equilibrium distance and binding energy. In particular, one type of vdW-DF can describe such systems reasonably well. The van der Waals interaction has been confirmed to have an energy comparable to the magnetic one, while emerging at a distance rather longer than the latter.
