Scattering for the one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equation with exponential nonlinearity

We consider the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the defocusing nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation (NLKG) with exponential nonlinearity in the one spatial dimension with data in the energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R}) \times L^2(\mathbb{R})$. We prove that any energy solution has a global bound of the $L^6_{t,x}$ space-time norm, and hence scatters in $H^1(\mathbb{R}) \times L^2(\mathbb{R})$ as $t\rightarrow\pm \infty$. The proof is based on the argument by Killip-Stovall-Visan (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 364 (2012), no. 3, 1571--1631). However, since well-posedness in $H^{1/2}(\mathbb{R}) \times H^{-1/2}(\mathbb{R})$ for NLKG with the exponential nonlinearity holds only for small initial data, we use the $L_t^6 W^{s-1/2,6}_x$-norm for some $s>\frac{1}{2}$ instead of the $L_{t,x}^6$-norm, where $W_x^{s,p}$ denotes the $s$-th order $L^p$-based Sobolev space.

Well-posedness for KdV-type equations with quadratic nonlinearity

We consider the Cauchy problem of the KdV-type equation \[ \partial_t u + \frac{1}{3} \partial_x^3 u = c_1 u \partial_x^2u + c_2 (\partial_x u)^2, \quad u(0)=u_0. \] Pilod (2008) showed that the flow map of this Cauchy problem fails to be twice differentiable in the Sobolev space $H^s(\mathbb{R})$ for any $s \in \mathbb{R}$ if $c_1 \neq 0$. By using a gauge transformation, we point out that the contraction mapping theorem is applicable to the Cauchy problem if the initial data are in $H^2(\mathbb{R})$ with bounded primitives. Moreover, we prove that the Cauchy problem is locally well-posed in $H^1(\mathbb{R})$ with bounded primitives.

Well-posedness for a system of quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations with radial initial data

In the present paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of the system of quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations. This system was introduced by M. Colin and T. Colin (2004). The first and second authors obtained some well-posedness results in the Sobolev space $H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^d)$. We improve these results for conditional radial initial data by rewriting the system radial form.

$L^p$-$L^q$ estimates for the damped wave equation and the critical exponent for the nonlinear problem with slowly decaying data

We study the Cauchy problem of the damped wave equation \begin{align*} \partial_{t}^2 u - Δu + \partial_t u = 0 \end{align*} and give sharp $L^p$-$L^q$ estimates of the solution for $1\le q \le p < \infty\ (p\neq 1)$ with derivative loss. This is an improvement of the so-called Matsumura estimates. Moreover, as its application, we consider the nonlinear problem with initial data in $(H^s\cap H_r^β) \times (H^{s-1} \cap L^r)$ with $r \in (1,2]$, $s\ge 0$, and $β= (n-1)|\frac{1}{2}-\frac{1}{r}|$, and prove the local and global existence of solutions. In particular, we prove the existence of the global solution with small initial data for the critical nonlinearity with the power $1+\frac{2r}{n}$, while it is known that the critical power $1+\frac{2}{n}$ belongs to the blow-up region when $r=1$. We also discuss the asymptotic behavior of the global solution in supercritical cases. Moreover, we present blow-up results in subcritical cases. We give estimates of lifespan and blow-up rates by an ODE argument.

Asymptotic behavior of solutions to a higher-order KdV-type equation with critical nonlinearity

We consider the Cauchy problem of the higher-order KdV-type equation: \[ \partial_t u + \frac{1}{\mathfrak{m}} |\partial_x|^{\mathfrak{m}-1} \partial_x u = \partial_x (u^{\mathfrak{m}}) \] where $\mathfrak{m} \ge 4$. The nonlinearity is critical in the sense of long-time behavior. Using the method of testing by wave packets, we prove that there exists a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem satisfying the same time decay estimate as that of linear solutions. Moreover, we divide the long-time behavior of the solution into three distinct regions.

On the probabilistic well-posedness of the nonlinear Schrödinger equations with non-algebraic nonlinearities

We consider the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) with non-algebraic nonlinearities on the Euclidean space. In particular, we study the energy-critical NLS on $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d=5,6$, and energy-critical NLS without gauge invariance and prove that they are almost surely locally well-posed with respect to randomized initial data below the energy space. We also study the long time behavior of solutions to these equations: (i) we prove almost sure global well-posedness of the (standard) energy-critical NLS on $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d = 5, 6$, in the defocusing case, and (ii) we present a probabilistic construction of finite time blowup solutions to the energy-critical NLS without gauge invariance below the energy space.

On the cubic Dirac equation with potential and the Lochak--Majorana condition

We study a cubic Dirac equation on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^{3}$ \begin{equation*} i \partial _t u + \mathcal{D} u + V(x) u = \langle βu,u \rangle βu \end{equation*} perturbed by a large potential with almost critical regularity. We prove global existence and scattering for small initial data in $H^{1}$ with additional angular regularity. The main tool is an endpoint Strichartz estimate for the perturbed Dirac flow. In particular, the result covers the case of spherically symmetric data with small $H^{1}$ norm. When the potential $V$ has a suitable structure, we prove global existence and scattering for \emph{large} initial data having a small chiral component, related to the Lochak--Majorana condition.

Norm inflation for the generalized Boussinesq and Kawahara equations

We consider ill-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the generalized Boussinesq and Kawahara equations. We prove norm inflation with general initial data, an improvement over the ill-posedness results by Geba et al., Nonlinear Anal. 95 (2014), 404-413 for the generalized Boussinesq equations and by Kato, Adv. Differential Equations 16 (2011), no. 3-4, 257-287 for the Kawahara equation.

Random data Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative nonlinearity

We consider the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative nonlinearity $(i\partial _t + Δ) u= \pm \partial (\overline{u}^m)$ on $\R ^d$, $d \ge 1$, with random initial data, where $\partial$ is a first order derivative with respect to the spatial variable, for example a linear combination of $\frac{\partial}{\partial x_1} , \, \dots , \, \frac{\partial}{\partial x_d}$ or $|\nabla |= \mathcal{F}^{-1}[|ξ| \mathcal{F}]$. We prove that almost sure local in time well-posedness, small data global in time well-posedness and scattering hold in $H^s(\R ^d)$ with $s> \max \left( \frac{d-1}{d} s_c , \frac{s_c}{2}, s_c - \frac{d}{2(d+1)} \right)$ for $d+m \ge 5$, where $s$ is below the scaling critical regularity $s_c := \frac{d}{2}-\frac{1}{m-1}$.

Random data Cauchy theory for the fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic nonlinearity

We consider the Cauchy problem for the fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative nonlinearity $(i\partial _t + Δ^2) u= \pm \partial (|u|^2u)$ on $\mathbb{R} ^d$, $d \ge 3$, with random initial data, where $\partial$ is a first order derivative with respect to the spatial variable, for example a linear combination of $\frac{\partial}{\partial x_1} , \, \dots , \, \frac{\partial}{\partial x_d}$ or $|\nabla |= \mathcal{F}^{-1}[|ξ| \mathcal{F}]$. We prove that almost sure local in time well-posedness, small data global in time well-posedness and scattering hold in $H^s(\mathbb{R} ^d)$ with $\max ( \frac{d-5}{2}, \frac{d-5}{6}) < s$, whose lower bound is below the scale critical regularity $s_c= \frac{d-3}{2}$.

Well-posedness and scattering for fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger type equations at the scaling critical regularity

In the present paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger type equations with a derivative nonlinearity. In one dimensional case, we prove that the fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the derivative quartic nonlinearity $\partial _x (\overline{u}^4)$ is the small data global in time well-posed and scattering to a free solution. Furthermore, we show that the same result holds for the $d \ge 2$ and derivative polynomial type nonlinearity, for example $|\nabla | (u^m)$ with $(m-1)d \ge 4$.
