Microscopic Observation of Heavy Quasiparticle Formation in the Intermediate Valence Compound EuNi$_2$P$_2$: $^{31}$P NMR Study

We report $^{31}$P NMR measurements under various magnetic fields up to 7 T for the intermediate valence compound EuNi$_2$P$_2$, which shows heavy electronic states at low temperatures. In the high-temperature region above 40 K, the Knight shift followed the Curie--Weiss law reflecting localized $4f$ states. In addition, the behavior corresponding to the temperature variation of the average valence of Eu was observed in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$. With the occurrence of the Kondo effect, $1/T_1$ was clearly reduced below 40 K, and the Knight shift becomes almost constant at low temperatures. From these results, the formation of heavy quasiparticles by the hybridization of Eu $4f$ electrons and conduction electrons was clarified from microscopic viewpoints. Furthermore, a characteristic spin fluctuation was observed at low temperatures, which would be associated with valence fluctuations caused by the intermediate valence state of EuNi$_2$P$_2$.

NMR studies of the incommensurate helical antiferromagnet EuCo2P2 : determination of the antiferromagnetic propagation vector

Recently Ding et al. [Phys. Rev. B 95, 184404 (2017)] reported that their nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study on EuCo$_2$As$_2$ successfully characterized the antiferromagnetic (AFM) propagation vector of the incommensurate helix AFM state, showing that NMR is a unique tool for determination of the spin structures in incommensurate helical AFMs. Motivated by this work, we have carried out $^{153}$Eu, $^{31}$P and $^{59}$Co NMR measurements on the helical antiferromagnet EuCo$_2$P$_2$ with an AFM ordering temperature $T_{\rm N}$ = 66.5 K. An incommensurate helical AFM structure was clearly confirmed by $^{153}$Eu and $^{31}$P NMR spectra on single crystalline EuCo$_2$P$_2$ in zero magnetic field at 1.6 K and its external magnetic field dependence. Furthermore, based on $^{59}$Co NMR data in both the paramagnetic and the incommensurate AFM states, we have determined the model-independent value of the AFM propagation vector k = (0, 0, 0.73 $\pm$ 0.09)2$π$/$c$ where $c$ is the $c$-axis lattice parameter. The temperature dependence of k is also discussed.

153Eu and 69,71Ga Zero-Field NMR Study of Antiferromagnetic State in EuGa4

We report $^{153}$Eu and $^{69,71}$Ga NMR under a zero magnetic field on the antiferromagnetic state of EuGa$_{4}$ with $T_{\rm{N}}\approx 16$ K. We have successfully observed a $^{153}$Eu zero-field NMR signal with well-resolved nuclear quadrupole splitting in the antiferromagnetic state of EuGa$_{4}$. $^{69,71}$Ga zero-field NMR spectra were also observed below $T_{\rm{N}}$. The internal field and nuclear quadrupole frequency are estimated from a simulation of the spectra by the exact diagonalization of the nuclear spin Hamiltonian matrix. The asymmetrically split zero-field NMR spectra were explained by considering a configuration of the magnetic moments of Eu$^{2+}$ lying in the basal $ab$-plane. The temperature dependence of the internal field, which is proportional to the sublattice magnetization, can be explained by the Brillouin function with $J=S=7/2$

Antiferromagnetic Order and Superconductivity in Sr4(Mg0.5-xTi0.5+x)2O6Fe2As2 with Electron Doping: 75As-NMR Study

We report an 75As-NMR study on iron (Fe)-based superconductors with thick perovskitetype blocking layers Sr4(Mg0.5-xTi0.5+x)2O6Fe2As2 with x=0 and 0.2. We have found that antiferromagnetic (AFM) order takes place when x=0, and superconductivity (SC) emerges below Tc=36 K when x=0.2. These results reveal that the Fe-pnictides with thick perovskitetype blocks also undergo an evolution from the AFM order to the SC by doping electron carriers into FeAs planes through the chemical substitution of Ti+4 ions for Mg+2 ions, analogous to the F-substitution in LaFeAsO compound. The reason why the Tc=36 K when x=0.2 being higher than the optimally electron-doped LaFeAsO with Tc=27 K relates to the fact that the local tetrahedron structure of FeAs4 is optimized for the onset of SC.

Evidence for Novel Pairing State in Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor CePt3Si: 29Si-NMR Knight Shift Study

We report the measurements of the $^{29}$Si Knight shift $^{29}K$ on the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion compound CePt$_{3}$Si in which antiferromagnetism (AFM) with $T_{\rm N}=2.2$ K coexists with superconductivity (SC) with $T_{c}=0.75$ K. Its spin part $^{29}K_{\rm s}$, which is deduced to be $K_{\rm s}^{c}\ge 0.11$ and 0.16% at respective magnetic fields $H=2.0061$ and 0.8671 T, does not decrease across the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ for the field along the c-axis. The temperature dependence of nuclear spin-lattice relaxation of $^{195}$Pt below $T_{c}$ has been accounted for by a Cooper pairing model with a two-component order parameter composed of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing components. From this result, it is shown that the Knight-shift data are consistent with the occurrence of the two-component order parameter for CePt$_{3}$Si.

Sb-NQR probe for multipole degree of freedom in the first Pr-based heavy-fermion superconductor PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$

We report $^{121,123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements in the filled-skutterudite superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ in the temperature range of 0.05-30 K. The electric field gradients (EFG), $V_{zz}$ and $V_{xx}-V_{yy}$, at the Sb site exhibit unusual temperature dependence below 30 K. To explain these features, we discuss the coupling between the Sb nuclear quadrupole moment and Pr $4f^2$-derived multipole moments. The observed $T$ dependence of EFG is well explained by the CEF quasi-quartet consisted of $Γ_1$ singlet and $Γ_4^{(2)}$ triplet states in the cubic point group $T_h$. These results, in turn, are indicative of the importance of the coupling between the $^{121,123}$Sb quadrupole moments and the hexadecapole moment caused by the quasi-quartet.

Novel Phase Transition Near the Quantum Critical Point in the Filled-Skutterudite Compound CeOs4Sb12: an Sb-NQR Study

We report on a novel phase transition at $T$ = 0.9 K in the Ce-based filled-skutterudite compound CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ via measurements of the nuclear-spin lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$ and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectrum of Sb nuclei. The temperature ($T$) dependence of $1/T_1$ behaves as if approaching closely an antiferromagnetic (AFM) quantum critical point (QCP), following the relation $1/T_{1}\propto T/(T-T_{\rm N})^{1/2}$ with $T_{\rm N} = 0.06$ K in the range of $T=1.3-25$ K. The onset of either the spin-density-wave (SDW) or charge-density-wave (CDW) order at $T_{\rm 0} = 0.9$ K, that is, of the first order, is evidenced by a broadening of the NQR spectrum and a marked reduction in $1/T_1$ just below $T_{\rm 0}$. The $f$-electron-derived correlated band realized in CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ is demonstrated to give rise to the novel phase transition on the verge of AFM QCP.
