Exact general relativistic solutions for a cylindrically symmetric stiff fluid matter source

In this work, we derive the general solutions for a cylindrically symmetric space-time filled with a cosmological perfect fluid obeying $p=γρ$ ($0\leq γ\leq 1$), where $γ=1$ represents a stiff or Zeldovich fluid. Using Marder's metric with coefficients depending on $t$ and $r$, we obtain explicit solutions of the gravitational field equations for the three cases $δ= 1, 0, -1$, corresponding to exponential, power-law, and trigonometric behaviors of the metric functions. The resulting space-times exhibit anisotropic evolution, nontrivial expansion and shear, and curvature singularities, with energy density and pressure profiles determined by the integration constants. These solutions provide a comprehensive framework for modeling cylindrically symmetric cosmologies, offering insights into early-universe dynamics and anisotropic gravitational phenomena. The versatility of the solutions also opens avenues for extensions to higher-dimensional or modified gravity scenarios, making them a valuable tool for both theoretical and phenomenological studies in general relativity.

Series solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger-Newton equations in the presence of dark energy via the Adomian Decomposition Method

The Schrödinger-Newton model is a nonlinear system obtained by coupling the linear Schrödinger equation of canonical quantum mechanics with the Poisson equation of Newtonian mechanics. In this paper we investigate the effects of dark energy on the time-dependent Schrödinger-Newton equations by including a new source term with energy density $ρ_Λ = Λc^2/(8πG)$, where $Λ$ is the cosmological constant, in addition to the particle-mass source term $ρ_m = m|ψ|^2$. The resulting Schrödinger-Newton-$Λ$ (S-N-$Λ$) system cannot be solved exactly, in closed form, and one must resort to either numerical or semianalytical (i.e., series) solution methods. We apply the Adomian Decomposition Method, a very powerful method for solving a large class of nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations, to obtain accurate series solutions of the S-N-$Λ$ system, for the first time. The dark energy dominated regime is also investigated in detail. We then compare our results to existing numerical solutions and analytical estimates, and show that they are consistent with previous findings. Finally, we outline the advantages of using the Adomian Decomposition Method, which allows accurate solutions of the S-N-$Λ$ system to be obtained quickly, even with minimal computational resources.

Analytical solutions of the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass

The study of the Schrödinger equation with the position-dependent effective mass has attracted a lot of attention, due to its applications in many fields of physics, including the properties of the semiconductors, semiconductor heterostructures, graded alloys, quantum liquids, Helium-3 clusters, quantum wells, wires and dots etc. In the present work we obtain several classes of solutions of the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent particle mass. As a first step the single particle Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass is transformed into an equivalent Riccati type equation. By considering some integrability cases of the Riccati equation, seven classes of exact analytical solutions of the Schrödinger equation are obtained, with the particle mass function and the external potential satisfying some consistency conditions.

A Brief Introduction to the Adomian Decomposition Method, with Applications in Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) is a very effective approach for solving broad classes of nonlinear partial and ordinary differential equations, with important applications in different fields of applied mathematics, engineering, physics and biology. It is the goal of the present paper to provide a clear and pedagogical introduction to the Adomian Decomposition Method and to some of its applications. In particular, we focus our attention to a number of standard first-order ordinary differential equations (the linear, Bernoulli, Riccati, and Abel) with arbitrary coefficients, and present in detail the Adomian method for obtaining their solutions. In each case we compare the Adomian solution with the exact solution of some particular differential equations, and we show their complete equivalence. The second order and the fifth order ordinary differential equations are also considered. An important extension of the standard ADM, the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method is also introduced through the investigation of the solutions of a specific second order nonlinear differential equation. We also present the applications of the method to the Fisher-Kolmogorov second order partial nonlinear differential equation, which plays an important role in the description of many physical processes, as well as three important applications in astronomy and astrophysics, related to the determination of the solutions of the Kepler equation, of the Lane-Emden equation, and of the general relativistic equation describing the motion of massive particles in the spherically symmetric and static Schwarzschild geometry.

The effects of the dark energy on the static Schrödinger-Newton system -- an Adomian Decomposition Method and Padé approximants based approach

The Schrödinger-Newton system is a nonlinear system obtained by coupling together the linear Schrödinger equation of quantum mechanics with the Poisson equation of Newtonian mechanics. In the present work we will investigate the effects of a cosmological constant (dark energy or vacuum fluctuation) on the Schrödinger-Newton system, by modifying the Poisson equation through the addition of a new term. The corresponding Schrödinger-Newton-$Λ$ system cannot be solved exactly, and therefore for its study one must resort to either numerical or semianalytical methods. In order to obtain a semianalytical solution of the system we apply the Adomian Decomposition Method, a very powerful method used for solving a large class of nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations. Moreover, the Adomian series are transformed into rational functions by using the Padé approximants. The semianalytical approximation is compared with the full numerical solution, and the effects of the dark energy on the structure of the Newtonian quantum system are investigated in detail.

Series solution of the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) epidemic model with vital dynamics via the Adomian and Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Methods

The Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) epidemic model as well as its generalizations are extensively used for the study of the spread of infectious diseases, and for the understanding of the dynamical evolution of epidemics. From SIR type models only the model without vital dynamics has an exact analytic solution, which can be obtained in an exact parametric form. The SIR model with vital dynamics, the simplest extension of the basic SIR model, does not admit a closed form representation of the solution. However, in order to perform the comparison with the epidemiological data accurate representations of the time evolution of the SIR model with vital dynamics would be very useful. In the present paper, we obtain first the basic evolution equation of the SIR model with vital dynamics, which is given by a strongly nonlinear second order differential equation. Then we obtain a series representation of the solution of the model, by using the Adomian and Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Methods to solve the dynamical evolution equation of the model. The solutions are expressed in the form of infinite series. The series representations of the time evolution of the SIR model with vital dynamics are compared with the exact numerical solutions of the model, and we find that, at least for a specific range of parameters, there is a good agreement between the Adomian and Laplace-Adomian semianalytical solutions, containing only a small number of terms, and the numerical results.

A simple computational approach to the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) epidemic model via the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method

The Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) epidemic model is extensively used for the study of the spread of infectious diseases. Even that the exact solution of the model can be obtained in an exact parametric form, in order to perform the comparison with the epidemiological data a simple but highly accurate representation of the time evolution of the SIR compartments would be very useful. In the present paper we obtain a series representation of the solution of the SIR model by using the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method to solve the basic evolution equation of the model. The solutions are expressed in the form of infinite series. The series representations of the time evolution of the SIR compartments are compared with the exact numerical solutions of the model. We find that there is a good agreement between the Laplace-Adomian semianalytical solutions containing only three terms, and the numerical results.

Vortex solutions in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates via the Adomian Decomposition Method

We study the dynamics of vortices with arbitrary topological charges in weakly interacting Bose-Einstein condensates using the Adomian Decomposition Method to solve the nonlinear Gross-Pitaevskii equation in polar coordinates. The solutions of the vortex equation are expressed in the form of infinite power series. The power series representations are compared with the exact numerical solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the uniform and the harmonic potential, respectively. We find that there is a good agreement between the analytical and the numerical results.

On the integrability of the Abel and of the extended Liénard equations

We present some exact integrability cases of the extended Liénard equation $y^{\prime \prime }+f\left( y\right) \left(y^{\prime }\right)^{n}+k\left( y\right) \left(y^{\prime }\right)^{m}+g\left(y\right) y^{\prime }+h\left( y\right) =0$, with $n>0$ and $m>0$ arbitrary constants, while $f(y)$, $k(y)$, $g(y)$, and $h(y)$ are arbitrary functions. The solutions are obtained by transforming the equation Liénard equation to an equivalent first kind first order Abel type equation given by $\frac{dv}{dy} =f\left( y\right) v^{3-n}+k\left( y\right) v^{3-m}+g\left( y\right) v^{2}+h\left( y\right) v^{3}$, with $v=1/y^{\prime }$. As a first step in our study we obtain three integrability cases of the extended quadratic-cubic Liénard equation, corresponding to $n=2$ and $m=3$, by assuming that particular solutions of the associated Abel equation are known. Under this assumption the general solutions of the Abel and Liénard equations with coefficients satisfying some differential conditions can be obtained in an exact closed form. With the use of the Chiellini integrability condition, we show that if a particular solution of the Abel equation is known, the general solution of the extended quadratic cubic Liénard equation can be obtained by quadratures. The Chiellini integrability condition is extended to generalized Abel equations with $g(y)\equiv 0$ and $h(y)\equiv 0$, and arbitrary $n$ and $m$, thus allowing to obtain the general solution of the corresponding Liénard equation. The application of the generalized Chiellini condition to the case of the reduced Riccati equation is also considered.

Spherically symmetric static vacuum solutions in hybrid metric-Palatini gravity

We consider vacuum static spherically symmetric solutions in the hybrid metric-Palatini gravity theory, which is a combination of the metric and Palatini $f(R)$ formalisms unifying local constraints at the Solar System level and the late-time cosmic acceleration. We adopt the scalar-tensor representation of the hybrid metric-Palatini theory, in which the scalar-tensor definition of the potential can be represented as a Clairaut differential equation. Due to their mathematical complexity, it is difficult to find exact solutions of the vacuum field equations, and therefore we adopt a numerical approach in studying the behavior of the metric functions and of the scalar field. After reformulating the field equations in a dimensionless form, and by introducing a suitable independent radial coordinate, the field equations are solved numerically. We detect the formation of a black hole from the presence of a singularity in the metric tensor components. Several models, corresponding to different functional forms of the scalar field potential are considered. The thermodynamic properties of these black hole solutions (horizon temperature, specific heat, entropy and evaporation time due to Hawking luminosity) are also investigated in detail.

Solving the nonlinear biharmonic equation by the Laplace-Adomian and Adomian Decomposition Methods

The biharmonic equation, as well as its nonlinear and inhomogeneous generalizations, plays an important role in engineering and physics. In particular the focusing biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, and its standing wave solutions, have been intensively investigated. In the present paper we consider the applications of the Laplace-Adomian and Adomian Decomposition Methods for obtaining semi-analytical solutions of the generalized biharmonic equations of the type $Δ^{2}y+αΔy+ωy+b^{2}+g\left( y\right) =f$, where $α$, $ω$ and $b$ are constants, and $g$ and $f$ are arbitrary functions of $y$ and the independent variable, respectively. After introducing the general algorithm for the solution of the biharmonic equation, as an application we consider the solutions of the one-dimensional and radially symmetric biharmonic standing wave equation $Δ^{2}R+R-R^{2σ+1}=0$, with $σ= {\rm constant}$. The one-dimensional case is analyzed by using both the Laplace-Adomian and the Adomian Decomposition Methods, respectively, and the truncated series solutions are compared with the exact numerical solution. The power series solution of the radial biharmonic standing wave equation is also obtained, and compared with the numerical solution.

Computation of the general relativistic perihelion precession and of light deflection via the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method

We study the equations of motion of the massive and massless particles in the Schwarzschild geometry of general relativity by using the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method, which proved to be extremely successful in obtaining series solutions to a wide range of strongly nonlinear differential and integral equations. After introducing a general formalism for the derivation of the equations of motion in arbitrary spherically symmetric static geometries, and of the general mathematical formalism of the Laplace-Adomian Decomposition Method, we obtain the series solution of the geodesics equation in the Schwarzschild geometry. The truncated series solution, containing only five terms, can reproduce the exact numerical solution with a high precision. In the first order of approximation we reobtain the standard expression for the perihelion precession. We study in detail the bending angle of light by compact objects in several orders of approximation. The extension of this approach to more general geometries than the Schwarzschild one is also briefly discussed.

Jacobi stability analysis of scalar field models with minimal coupling to gravity in a cosmological background

We perform the study of the stability of the cosmological scalar field models, by using the Jacobi stability analysis, or the Kosambi-Cartan-Chern (KCC) theory. In the KCC approach we describe the time evolution of the scalar field cosmologies in geometric terms, by performing a "second geometrization", by considering them as paths of a semispray. By introducing a non-linear connection and a Berwald type connection associated to the Friedmann and Klein-Gordon equations, five geometrical invariants can be constructed, with the second invariant giving the Jacobi stability of the cosmological model. We obtain all the relevant geometric quantities, and we formulate the condition of the Jacobi stability for scalar field cosmologies in the second order formalism. As an application of the developed methods we consider the Jacobi stability properties of the scalar fields with exponential and Higgs type potential. We find that the Universe dominated by a scalar field exponential potential is in Jacobi unstable state, while the cosmological evolution in the presence of Higgs fields has alternating stable and unstable phases. By using the standard first order formulation of the cosmological models as dynamical systems we have investigated the stability of the phantom quintessence and tachyonic scalar fields, by lifting the first order system to the tangent bundle. It turns out that in the presence of a power law potential both these models are Jacobi unstable during the entire cosmological evolution.
