Diagonals in Riordan matrices and applications

We introduce a method for describing Riordan matrices via recurrence relations along their diagonals. This provides a new structural description that complements the classical row-wise and column-wise constructions via the A-sequence. As an application, we characterize families of palindromic Riordan polynomials, yielding a new combinatorial interpretation in terms of lattice paths.

Riordan pattern's quest within simplicial complexes

The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we demonstrate how Riordan matrices can be employed to connect well-known concepts in geometric combinatorics, such as $f$-vectors, $h$-vectors $γ$-vectors, in a similar fashion to the McMullen Correspondence, and the Dehn-Sommerville equations, among others. Second, we investigate the combinatorial properties of the topological join operation, both for simplicial complexes and for Alexandroff spaces. Finally, we explore the Riordan matrices arising from the iteration of this topological operation and analyze their properties.

Differential equations in Ward's calculus

In this paper we solve some differential equations in the $D_h$ derivative in Ward's sense. We use a special metric in the formal power series ring $\K[[x]]$. The solutions of that equations are giving in terms of fixed points for certain contractive maps in our metric framework. Our main tools are Banach's Fixed Point Theorem, Fundamental Calculus Theorem and Barrow's rule for Ward's calculus. Later, we return to the usual differential calculus via Sheffer's expansion of some kind of operators. Finally, we give some examples related, in some sense, to combinatorics.

A combinatorial description of shape theory

We give a combinatorial description of shape theory using finite topological $T_0$-spaces (finite partially ordered sets). This description may lead to a sort of computational shape theory. Then we introduce the notion of core for inverse sequences of finite spaces and prove some properties.

Commutators and commutator subgroups of the Riordan group

We calculate the derived series of the Riordan group. To do that, we study a nested sequence of its subgroups, herein denoted by $\mathcal G_k$. By means of this sequence, we first obtain the n-th commutator subgroup of the Associated subgroup. This fact allows us to get some related results about certain groups of formal power series and to complete the proof of our main goal, Theorem 1 in this paper.

Computational approximations of compact metric spaces

Given a compact metric space $X$, we associate to it an inverse sequence of finite $T_0$ topological spaces. The inverse limit of this inverse sequence contains a homeomorphic copy of $X$ that is a strong deformation retract. We provide a method to approximate the homology groups of $X$ and other algebraic invariants. Finally, we study computational aspects and the implementation of this method.

On some topological realizations of groups and homomorphisms

Let $f:G\rightarrow H$ be a homomorphism of groups, we construct a topological space $X_f$ such that its group of homeomorphisms is isomorphic to $G$, its group of homotopy classes of self-homotopy equivalences is isomorphic to $H$ and the natural map between the group of homeomorphisms of $X_f$ and the group of homotopy classes of self-homotopy equivalences of $X_f$ is precisely $f$. In addition, realization problems involving homology, homotopy groups and groups of automorphisms are considered.

Coincidence theorems for finite topological spaces

We adapt the definition of the Vietoris map to the framework of finite topological spaces and we prove some coincidence theorems. From them, we deduce a Lefschetz fixed point theorem for multivalued maps that improves recent results in the literature. Finally, it is given an application to the approximation of discrete dynamical systems in polyhedra.

Semiflows induced by length metrics: On the way to extinction

Bing and Moise proved, independently, that any Peano continuum admits a length metric d. We treat non-degenerate Peano continua with a length metric as evolution systems instead of stationary objects. For any compact length space (X, d) we consider a semiflow in the hyperspace $2^X$ of all non-empty closed sets in X. This semiflow starts with a canonical copy of the Peano continuum (X,d) at t = 0 and, at some time, collapses everything into a point. We study some properties of this semiflow for several classes of spaces, manifolds, graphs and finite polyhedra among them.

Bounded distortion homeomorphisms on ultrametric spaces

It is well-known that quasi-isometries between R-trees induce power quasi-symmetric homeomorphisms between their ultrametric end spaces. This paper investigates power quasi-symmetric homeomorphisms between bounded, complete, uniformly perfect, ultrametric spaces (i.e., those ultrametric spaces arising up to similarity as the end spaces of bushy trees). A bounded distortion property is found that characterizes power quasi-symmetric homeomorphisms between such ultrametric spaces that are also pseudo-doubling. Moreover, examples are given showing the extent to which the power quasi-symmetry of homeomorphisms is not captured by the quasiconformal and bi-Hölder conditions for this class of ultrametric spaces.

Inverse sequences, rooted trees and their end spaces

In this paper we prove that if we consider the standard real metric on simplicial rooted trees then the category Tower-Set of inverse sequences can be described by means of the bounded coarse geometry of the naturally associated trees. Using this we give a geometrical characterization of Mittag-Leffler property in inverse sequences in terms of the Lipschitz, and metrically proper, homotopy type of the corresponding tree and its maximal geodesically complete subtree. We also some consequences in shape theory, in particular we obtain some new representations of shape morphisms related to infinite brunches in trees.
