Another Christoffel--Darboux Formula for Multiple Orthogonal Polynomials of Mixed Type

An alternative expression for the Christoffel--Darboux formula for multiple orthogonal polynomials of mixed type is derived from the $LU$ factorization of the moment matrix of a given measure and two sets of weights. We use the action of the generalized Jacobi matrix $J$, also responsible for the recurrence relations, on the linear forms and their duals to obtain the result.

Singularity confinement for matrix discrete Painleve Equations

We study the analytic properties of a matrix discrete system introduced in [7]. The singularity confinement for this system is shown to hold generically, i.e. in the whole space of parameters except possibly for algebraic subvarieties. This paves the way to a generalization of Painleve analysis to discrete matrix models.

Matrix Orthogonal Laurent Polynomials on the Unit Circle and Toda Type Integrable Systems

Matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss--Borel factorization of two, left and a right, Cantero-Morales-Velazquez block moment matrices, which are constructed using a quasi-definite matrix measure. A block Gauss-Borel factorization problem of these moment matrices leads to two sets of biorthogonal matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials and matrix Szegő polynomials, which can be expressed in terms of Schur complements of bordered truncations of the block moment matrix. The corresponding block extension of the Christoffel-Darboux theory is derived. Deformations of the quasi-definite matrix measure leading to integrable systems of Toda type are studied. The integrable theory is given in this matrix scenario; wave and adjoint wave functions, Lax and Zakharov-Shabat equations, bilinear equations and discrete flows --connected with Darboux transformations--. We generalize the integrable flows of the Cafasso's matrix extension of the Toeplitz lattice for the Verblunsky coefficients of Szegő polynomials. An analysis of the Miwa shifts allows for the finding of interesting connections between Christoffel--Darboux kernels and Miwa shifts of the matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials.

Orthogonal Laurent polynomials in unit circle, extended CMV ordering and 2D Toda type integrable hierarchies

Orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss--Borel factorization of a Cantero-Moral-Velazquez moment matrix, which is constructed in terms of a complex quasi-definite measure supported in the unit circle. The factorization of the moment matrix leads to orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the corresponding second kind functions. Jacobi operators, 5-term recursion relations and Christoffel-Darboux kernels, projecting to particular spaces of truncated Laurent polynomials, and corresponding Christoffel-Darboux formulae are obtained within this point of view in a completely algebraic way. Cantero-Moral-Velazquez sequence of Laurent monomials is generalized and recursion relations, Christoffel-Darboux kernels, projecting to general spaces of truncated Laurent polynomials and corresponding Christoffel-Darboux formulae are found in this extended context. Continuous deformations of the moment matrix are introduced and is shown how they induce a time dependant orthogonality problem related to a Toda-type integrable system, which is connected with the well known Toeplitz lattice. Using the classical integrability theory tools the Lax and Zakharov-Shabat equations are obtained. The dynamical system associated with the coefficients of the orthogonal Laurent polynomials is explicitly derived and compared with the classical Toeplitz lattice dynamical system for the Verblunsky coefficients of Szegő polynomials for a positive measure. Discrete flows are introduced and related to Darboux transformations. Finally, the representation of the orthogonal Laurent polynomials (and its second kind functions), using the formalism of Miwa shifts, in terms of $τ$-functions is presented and bilinear equations are derived.

Riemann--Hilbert problems, matrix orthogonal polynomials and discrete matrix equations with singularity confinement

In this paper matrix orthogonal polynomials in the real line are described in terms of a Riemann--Hilbert problem. This approach provides an easy derivation of discrete equations for the corresponding matrix recursion coefficients. The discrete equation is explicitly derived in the matrix Freud case, associated with matrix quartic potentials. It is shown that, when the initial condition and the measure are simultaneously triangularizable, this matrix discrete equation possesses the singularity confinement property, independently if the solution under consideration is given by recursion coefficients to quartic Freud matrix orthogonal polynomials or not.

The q-deformed mKP hierarchy with self-consistent sources, Wronskian solutions and solitons

Based on the eigenfunction symmetry constraint of the q-deformed modified KP hierarchy, a q-deformed mKP hierarchy with self-consistent sources ($q$-mKPHSCSs) is constructed. The q-mKPHSCSs contains two types of q-deformed mKP equation with self-consistent sources. By combination of the dressing method and the method of variation of constants, a generalized dressing approach is proposed to solve the q-deformed KP hierarchy with self-consistent sources ($q$-KPHSCSs). Using the gauge transformation between the $q$-KPHSCSs and the $q$-mKPHSCSs, the q-deformed Wronskian solutions for the $q$-KPHSCSs and the $q$-mKPHSCSs are obtained. The one-soliton solutions for the q-deformed KP (mKP) equation with a source are given explicitly.

The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy: generalized matrix orthogonal polynomials, multiple orthogonal polynomials and Riemann--Hilbert problems

We consider the relation of the multi-component 2D Toda hierarchy with matrix orthogonal and biorthogonal polynomials. The multi-graded Hankel reduction of this hierarchy is considered and the corresponding generalized matrix orthogonal polynomials are studied. In particular for these polynomials we consider the recursion relations, and for rank one weights its relation with multiple orthogonal polynomials of mixed type with a type II normalization and the corresponding link with a Riemann--Hilbert problem.

The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy: dispersionless limit

The factorization problem of the multi-component 2D Toda hierarchy is used to analyze the dispersionless limit of this hierarchy. A dispersive version of the Whitham hierarchy defined in terms of scalar Lax and Orlov--Schulman operators is introduced and the corresponding additional symmetries and string equations are discussed. Then, it is shown how KP and Toda pictures of the dispersionless Whitham hierarchy emerge in the dispersionless limit. Moreover, the additional symmetries and string equations for the dispersive Whitham hierarchy are studied in this limit.

The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy: Discrete flows and string equations

The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy is analyzed through a factorization problem associated to an infinite-dimensional group. A new set of discrete flows is considered and the corresponding Lax and Zakharov--Shabat equations are characterized. Reductions of block Toeplitz and Hankel bi-infinite matrix types are proposed and studied. Orlov--Schulman operators, string equations and additional symmetries (discrete and continuous) are considered. The continuous-discrete Lax equations are shown to be equivalent to a factorization problem as well as to a set of string equations. A congruence method to derive site independent equations is presented and used to derive equations in the discrete multicomponent KP sector (and also for its modification) of the theory as well as dispersive Whitham equations.

String equations in Whitham hierarchies: tau-functions and Virasoro constraints

A scheme for solving Whitham hierarchies satisfying a special class of string equations is presented. The tau-function of the corresponding solutions is obtained and the differential expressions of the underlying Virasoro constraints are characterized. Illustrative examples of exact solutions of Whitham hierarchies are derived and applications to conformal maps dynamics are indicated.

On the Whitham hierarchy: dressing scheme, string equations and additional symmetrie

A new description of the universal Whitham hierarchy in terms of a factorization problem in the Lie group of canonical transformations is provided. This scheme allows us to give a natural description of dressing transformations, string equations and additional symmetries for the Whitham hierarchy. We show how to dress any given solution and prove that any solution of the hierarchy may be undressed, and therefore comes from a factorization of a canonical transformation. A particulary important function, related to the $τ$-function, appears as a potential of the hierarchy. We introduce a class of string equations which extends and contains previous classes of string equations considered by Krichever and by Takasaki and Takebe. The scheme is also applied for an convenient derivation of additional symmetries. Moreover, new functional symmetries of the Zakharov extension of the Benney gas equations are given and the action of additional symmetries over the potential in terms of linear PDEs is characterized.

S-functions, reductions and hodograph solutions of the r-th dispersionless modified KP and Dym hierarchies

We introduce an S-function formulation for the recently found r-th dispersionless modified KP and r-th dispersionless Dym hierarchies, giving also a connection of these $S$-functions with the Orlov functions of the hierarchies. Then, we discuss a reduction scheme for the hierarchies that together with the $S$-function formulation leads to hodograph systems for the associated solutions. We consider also the connection of these reductions with those of the dispersionless KP hierarchy and with hydrodynamic type systems. In particular, for the 1-component and 2-component reduction we derive, for both hierarchies, ample sets of examples of explicit solutions.

Additional symmetries and solutions of the dispersionless KP hierarchy

The dispersionless KP hierarchy is considered from the point of view of the twistor formalism. A set of explicit additional symmetries is characterized and its action on the solutions of the twistor equations is studied. A method for dealing with the twistor equations by taking advantage of hodograph type equations is proposed. This method is applied for determining the orbits of solutions satisfying reduction constraints of Gelfand--Dikii type under the action of additional symmetries.

On Twistor Solutions of the dKP Equation

The factorization problem for the group of canonical transformations close to the identity and the corresponding twistor equations for an ample family of canonical variables are considered. A method to deal with these reductions is developed for the construction classes of nontrivial solutions of the dKP equation.

A hodograph transformation which applies to the heavenly equation

A hodograph transformation for a wide family of multidimensional nonlinear partial differential equations is presented. It is used to derive solutions of the heavenly equation (dispersionless Toda equation) as well as a family of explicit ultra-hyperbolic selfdual vacuum spaces admiting only one Killing vector which is not selfdual, we also give the corresponding explicit Einstein--Weyl structures.

On the Whitham Hierarchies: Reductions and Hodograph Solutions

A general scheme for analyzing reductions of Whitham hierarchies is presented. It is based on a method for determining the $S$-function by means of a system of first order partial differential equations. Compatibility systems of differential equations characterizing both reductions and hodograph solutions of Whitham hierarchies are obtained. The method is illustrated by exhibiting solutions of integrable models such as the dispersionless Toda equation (heavenly equation) and the generalized Benney system.

Darboux Transformation for Supersymmetric KP Hierarchies

We construct Darboux transformations for the super-symmetric KP hierarchies of Manin--Radul and Jacobian types. We also consider the binary Darboux transformation for the hierarchies. The iterations of both type of Darboux transformations are briefly discussed.

Generating Quadrilateral and Circular Lattices in KP Theory

The bilinear equations of the $N$-component KP and BKP hierarchies and a corresponding extended Miwa transformation allow us to generate quadrilateral and circular lattices from conjugate and orthogonal nets, respectively. The main geometrical objects are expressed in terms of Baker functions.
