Is MOND an effect of cosmic frame-dragging à la Mach?

The physical origin of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), which predicts galaxy rotation curves via a single empirical acceleration constant $a_0$ without the need for dark matter, remains unknown. I propose a modified-inertia origin for both MOND's interpolating function and $a_0$ within a framework closely related to Gravitoelectromagnetism, the linearized limit of General Relativity. Following Sciama's model unifying gravity and inertia, which implements Mach's principle and the relativity of acceleration through gravitoelectric induction, I consider an idealized homogeneous universe undergoing constant Hubble expansion. I identify $a_0 \sim H_0^2R_u \sim c^2/R_u$ with the relative recession acceleration of cosmic matter near the horizon, which dominates the cosmological contribution. I show that this scale enters local inertial dynamics only when the relative acceleration of the universe becomes anisotropic and the Rindler horizon is comparable to or larger than the cosmic Hubble horizon, at accelerations of order $a_0$ and below. By the simplest Ansatz for the observer's acceleration-dependent causal volume, accounting for the interplay between the cosmic and Rindler horizons, I derive MOND's simple interpolating function as a modified inertia law without the need to insert it by hand or make any further ad hoc adjustments. Physically, the region brought into causal connection ahead of the accelerating observer by the deformation of the cosmic horizon contributes less inertial drag than is lost from the region removed behind him by the Rindler horizon. This proof of concept motivates the possibility that MOND arises from large-scale linear inertial frame-dragging induced by the expanding universe within General Relativity.

Machian MOND: a variable $a_0$ in galaxy clusters

Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) generally resolves the need for dark matter in galaxy rotation curves introducing a single new constant of acceleration $a_0$. It is well known that increasing $a_0$ by a factor of a few can alleviate the residual mass discrepancies that MOND leaves in galaxy clusters. Within a parameter-free Machian interpretation of MOND, in which $a_0\sim GM_u/R_u^2$ arises from the scalar sum of inverse-square distance gravitational mass contributions in the universe, we promote $a_0$ to a variable influenced by mass external to a locally enclosed region in the spherically symmetric case. Instead of a boost of $a_0$ in terms of gravitational potentials as in EMOND, we show that a boost in terms of this directionless inverse-square field roughly amounts to the boost needed to accommodate the mass discrepancies of MOND in galaxy clusters. We conclude by beginning to generalize the proposed formulation beyond spherical symmetry.

MOND as a transformation between non-inertial reference frames via Sciama's interpretation of Mach's Principle

Moderhai Milgrom's Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) correction to Newtonian gravity or inertia is shown to be equivalent to a more fundamental formulation considering a non-inertial local reference frame and the fixed background of the observable universe, in the spirit of Mach's principle. Both Newton's gravitational constant $G\sim c^2/(M_u/R_u)$ and Milgrom's MOND acceleration scale constant $a_0\sim GM_u/R_u^2$ are replaced by two varying, measurable, and cosmological quantities determined by the causally connected mass and size of the universe. They arise from an inverse and an inverse squared distance scalar fields of matter density, respectively. This Machian interpretation of MOND is invariant under global rescalings of mass, length, and time across all regimes and is free from fundamental constants and free parameters, except for the speed of light. Machian MOND satisfies the fundamental consequences of Mach's principle not featured in Newton's and Einstein's theories: the decrease of inertia of a body when masses are removed from its neighborhood, and in the absence of a cosmic background, rotational motion is undefined up to the speed of light. Consequently, Machian MOND provides the necessary limiting behavior to which any phenomenological non-linear theory of modified inertia or gravity that incorporates Mach's principle, in agreement with galaxy rotation curves, should reduce as an effective approximation.

On Regular Negative Mass Black Holes Under Unitary Time and Proper Antichronous Transformations

A non-singular black hole solution is briefly presented which violates energy conditions only at its interior by postulating a consistent shift to negative energies and gravitationally repulsive negative masses at the event horizon. This shift is the unitary parity-time $PT$ transformation of relativistic quantum mechanics and the proper antichronous transformation of the full Lorentz group. The transformation at the event horizon respects Einstein's equivalence principle, and the considered negative mass interaction does not result in the runaway motion paradox or vacuum instability. The correspondence of these regular black holes with observed ones is studied by proposing another mechanism of black hole growth independent of accretion and merging due to interior increasing entropy, which attempts to solve the unexplained size and formation of high-redshift supermassive black holes, the intermediate mass gap, and the information paradox.
