Representations of the D=2 Euclidean and Poincaré groups

We present an explicit construction of the unitary irreducible representations of the two-dimensional Euclidean and Poincaré groups, together with their Spin double covers, by means of Mackey's theory of induced representations for semidirect products. In dimension D=2, the simplicity of the corresponding little groups allows a complete explicit treatment of momentum orbits, equivariant wavefunctions, and representation operators. For the Euclidean group, the matrix elements of the infinite-dimensional representations are expressed in terms of Bessel functions. For the Poincaré group, the richer Lorentzian orbit structure leads to matrix elements involving modified Bessel and Hankel functions and, in some cases, tempered distributions, requiring the use of Rigged Hilbert Spaces. This work illustrates the interplay among induced representations, harmonic analysis on Lie groups, Spin geometry, and special functions in a fully explicit relativistic setting.

The fuzzy bit

In this paper, the formulation of Quantum Mechanics in terms of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets is explored. A result by Pykacz, that establishes a correspondence between (quantum) logics (lattices with certain properties) and certain families of fuzzy sets, is applied to the Birkhoff-von Neumann logic, the lattice of projectors of a Hilbert space. Three cases are considered: the qubit, two qubits entangled and a qutrit `nested' inside the two entangled qubits. The membership functions of the fuzzy sets are explicitly computed and all the connectives of the fuzzy sets are interpreted as operations with these particular membership functions. In this way, a complete picture of the standard quantum logic in terms of fuzzy sets is obtained for the systems considered.

Quantum Chiral Superfields

We define the ordinary Minkowski space inside the conformal space according to Penrose and Manin as homogeneous spaces for the Poincaré and conformal group respectively. We realize the supersymmetric (SUSY) generalizations of such homogeneous spaces over the complex and the real fields. We finally investigate chiral (antichiral) superfields, which are superfields on the super Grassmannian, Gr(2|1, 4|1), respectively on Gr(2|0, 4|1). They ultimately give the twistor coordinates necessary to describe the conformal superspace as the flag Fl(2|0, 2|1; 4|1) and the Minkowski superspace as its big cell.
