Thin-shell wormholes in Einstein-Maxwell theory with a Gauss-Bonnet term

We study five dimensional thin-shell wormholes in Einstein-Maxwell theory with a Gauss-Bonnet term. The linearized stability under radial perturbations and the amount of exotic matter are analyzed as a function of the parameters of the model. We find that the inclusion of the quadratic correction substantially widens the range of possible stable configurations, and besides it allows for a reduction of the exotic matter required to construct the wormholes.

Macroscopic description of preheating

We present a macroscopic model of the decay of a coherent classical scalar field into statistical fluctuations through the process of parametric amplification. We solve the field theory (henceforth,"microscopic") model to leading order in a Large N expansion, and show that the macroscopic model gives satisfactory results for the evolution of the field, its conjuguate momentum and the energy momentum tensor of the fluctuations over many oscillations. The macroscopic model is substantially simpler then the microscopic one, and can be easily generalized to include quantum fluctuations. Although we assume here and homogeneous situation, the model is fully covariant, and can be applied in inhomogeneous cases as well. These features make this a promising model in exploring the physics of preheating.

Generic composition of boosts: an elementary derivation of the Wigner rotation

Because of its apparent complexity, the discussion of Wigner rotation is usually reduced to the study of Thomas precession, which is too specific a case to allow a deep understanding of boost composition. However, by simple arguments and linear algebra, the result for the Wigner rotation is obtained straightforwardly, leading to a formula written in a manageable form, The result is exemplified in the context of the aberration of light.

Relativistic theories of interacting fields and fluids

We investigate divergence-type theories (DTT) describing the dissipative interaction between a field and a fluid. We look for theories which, under equilibrium conditions, reduce to the theory of a Klein-Gordon scalar field and a perfect fluid. We show that the requirements of causality and positivity of entropy production put non-trivial constarints to the structure of the interaction terms. These theories provide a basis for the phenomonological study of the reheating period.
