Boundary states for a free boson defined on finite geometries

Langlands recently constructed a map that factorizes the partition function of a free boson on a cylinder with boundary condition given by two arbitrary functions in the form of a scalar product of boundary states. We rewrite these boundary states in a compact form, getting rid of technical assumptions necessary in his construction. This simpler form allows us to show explicitly that the map between boundary conditions and states commutes with conformal transformations preserving the boundary and the reality condition on the scalar field.

Further evidence of the absence of Replica Symmetry Breaking in Random Bond Potts Models

In this short note, we present supporting evidence for the replica symmetric approach to the random bond q-state Potts models. The evidence is statistically strong enough to reject the applicability of the Parisi replica symmetry breaking scheme to this class of models. The test we use is a generalization of one formerly proposed by Dotsenko et al. and consists in measuring scaling laws of disordered-averaged moments of the spin-spin correlation functions. Numerical results, obtained via Monte Carlo simulations for several values of q, are shown to be in fair agreement with the replica symmetric values computed by using perturbative CFT for the second and third moments of the q=3 model. RSB effects, which should increase in strength with moment, are unobserved.

Coupled Potts models: Self-duality and fixed point structure

We consider q-state Potts models coupled by their energy operators. Restricting our study to self-dual couplings, numerical simulations demonstrate the existence of non-trivial fixed points for 2 <= q <= 4. These fixed points were first predicted by perturbative renormalisation group calculations. Accurate values for the central charge and the multiscaling exponents of the spin and energy operators are calculated using a series of novel transfer matrix algorithms employing clusters and loops. These results compare well with those of the perturbative expansion, in the range of parameter values where the latter is valid. The criticality of the fixed-point models is independently verified by examining higher eigenvalues in the even sector, and by demonstrating the existence of scaling laws from Monte Carlo simulations. This might be a first step towards the identification of the conformal field theories describing the critical behaviour of this class of models.

Higher moments of spin-spin correlation functions for the ferromagnetic random bond Potts model

Using CFT techniques, we compute the disorder-averaged p-th power of the spin-spin correlation function for the ferromagnetic random bonds Potts model. We thus generalize the calculation of Dotsenko, Dotsenko and Picco, where the case p=2 was considered. Perturbative calculations are made up to the second order in epsilon (epsilon being proportional to the central charge deviation of the pure model from the Ising model value). The explicit dependence of the correlation function on $p$ gives an upper bound for the validity of the expansion, which seems to be valid, in the three-states case, only if p<=4.
