Supersymmetric Moduli Space and Vacua with Vector Fields in $D=4$ Gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ Supergravity

When fermions are taken to be anti-periodic along a spacelike $S^1$ in $AdS_4$, certain ground states of the supergravity theory are described by AdS-soliton-like spacetimes. We study these geometries within the purely dilatonic STU model obtained from the compactification of M-theory on $S^7$ in the presence of non-trivial gauge fields. The resulting configurations define a rich family of everywhere regular supersymmetric vacua that holographically describe strongly coupled ``confining'' gauge theories in three dimensions. We provide a complete characterization of the moduli space of supersymmetric solutions in terms of the vacuum expectation values of the dimension-one operators of the truncation.

Neural-Spectral Discovery of Rotating Black Holes Beyond General Relativity

Finding rotating black hole solutions in higher-curvature theories of gravity is a problem of fundamental importance. Virtually every approach to reconcile gravity with quantum mechanics predicts corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action, yet no systematic solution-generating method exists for the stationary sector. We close this gap with {\sc Akribeia}, a novel hybrid framework that pairs physics-informed neural networks with a pseudo-spectral refinement step, yielding certified neural-field rotating black hole solutions -- continuous, globally defined functions, parametric in the coupling constants -- whose residuals against the field equations are verified to extreme precision. We apply the method to theories quadratic and cubic in the curvature and construct, for the first time, families of rotating black holes featuring multiple non-vanishing angular momenta, parametric in the new coupling constants. After validating against previously known five-dimensional spacetimes, we present new solutions in scenarios leading to a highly non-linear/non-perturbative coupled system of ordinary differential equations. Our method can be systematically adapted to other setups involving partial differential equations as well.

(Iso)spin from Isospin in Top-Down Holography

Motivated by the spin from isospin mechanism of Jackiw-Rebbi-Hasenfratz-'t Hooft, we study two SU(2) gauged supergravity solutions of the form $M_{d}\times\text{S}^{2}$ containing non-Abelian hedgehog monopole on the 2-sphere. Due to the presence of the monopole, the SO(3) isometry group of the 2-sphere is not a symmetry of the configuration. Instead, a diagonal combination of the SU(2) gauge and the SO(3) isometry of the 2-sphere is the true symmetry of the configuration. Uplifting the solutions to Type II, the gauge-isometry diagonal symmetry becomes a diagonal combination between the SO(3) symmetry of the 2-sphere and a SU(2) symmetry of a 3-sphere used to uplift the configuration. One of the uplifts is supersymmetric and corresponds to the I-brane theory on a 2-sphere. The second background is a deformation of $\text{AdS}_{5}\times\text{S}^{5}$ and is not supersymmetric. We study dilaton fluctuations on the later geometry. Due to the diagonal symmetry, the fluctuations show angular momentum mixing between the SU(2) and SO(3) spins, mimicking the spin from isospin mechanism.

Deforming ${\rm AdS}_3\times S^3\times T^4$ in Type IIB Supergravity

We discuss some new results on the construction of supersymmetric solutions of Type IIB supergravity of the form ${\rm WAdS}_3\times{\rm WS}^3\times T^4$, ${\rm WAdS}_3$ and ${\rm WS}^3$ denoting \emph{warped} anti-de Sitter spacetime and sphere, respectively. The distinctive feature of these backgrounds is that, in spite of them being supersymmetric, the warpings of the two factors are described by independent parameters. We illustrate how some of these geometries, characterised by a lightlike warping of the anti-de Sitter factor, arise in the near-horizon limit of a regular, asymptotically locally flat configuration of D-branes and fluxes. Central to the construction of the latter solutions is the use of two independent TsT transformations. We also give a new class of supersymmetric solutions of the general form ${\rm WAdS}_3\times{\rm WS}^3\times T^4$, which has not been published yet. They feature warpings of the anti-de Sitter factor of the lightlike, spacelike and timelike types. We discuss their properties.

Logarithmic corrections to the entropy of near-extremal black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet

We compute the one-loop contribution to the semiclassical partition function of near-extremal, asymptotically AdS black holes in five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. In the absence of an exact analytic rotating solution at finite Gauss-Bonnet coupling $α$, we restrict to static, charged configurations and evaluate the contribution to $Z_{\text{1-loop}}$ arising from tensor, vector, and $U(1)$ gauge fluctuations. The analysis is based on the spectrum of a generalized Lichnerowicz operator governing linearized perturbations on the near-horizon geometry of the extremal solution, including its deformation by the coupling $α$. In the canonical ensemble, the low-temperature behavior of the one-loop partition function leads to logarithmic corrections to the entropy of the form $\log(T/T_0)$, where the scale $T_0$ depends on both the fluctuation sector and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. These corrections are controlled by the structure of zero modes of the deformed operator and their splitting at small but finite temperature. Our explicit computation yields a universal low-temperature scaling $Z_{\text{1-loop}}\sim 5 \log T$, where the coefficient arises from the combined contributions of tensor, vector, and $U(1)$ gauge modes, reflecting the corresponding counting of zero modes in each sector.

Moduli space of ${\cal N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills from AdS/CFT

We study ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory compactified on a circle at zero temperature, with VEVs for two scalar bilinears and three independent current sources. We show that type IIB supergravity provides a complete holographic description of this setup, admitting both supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric AdS soliton solutions, which are asymptotically AdS$_5$ and smooth in the IR. The current sources correspond in (2+1) dimensions to Q-ball charge densities for $U(1)^3\subset SO(6)_R$, and are geometrically realized as twists along three angular directions of the $S^5$. We demonstrate that the bulk dynamics encodes the full vacuum structure of the dual field theory and explicitly reconstruct the supersymmetric moduli space.

Tessellation Groups, Harmonic Analysis on Non-compact Symmetric Spaces and the Heat Kernel in view of Cartan Convolutional Neural Networks

In this paper, we continue the development of the Cartan neural networks programme, launched with three previous publications, by focusing on some mathematical foundational aspects that we deem necessary for our next steps forward. The mathematical and conceptual results are diverse and span various mathematical fields, but the inspiring motivation is unified. The aim is to introduce layers that are mathematically modeled as non-compact symmetric spaces, each mapped onto the next one by solvable group homomorphisms. In particular, in the spirit of Convolutional neural networks, we have introduced the notion of Tits Satake (TS) vector bundles where the TS submanifold is the base space. Within this framework, the tiling of the base manifold, the representation of bundle sections using harmonics, and the need for a general theory of separator walls motivated a series of mathematical investigations that produced both definite and partial results. Specifically, we present the group theoretical construction of the separators for all non-compact symmetric spaces $\mathrm{U/H}$, as well as of the $Δ_{8,3,2}$ tiling group and its normal Fuchsian subgroups, respectively yielding the uniformization of the genus $g=3$ Fermat Quartic and of the genus $g=2$ Bolza surface. The quotient automorphic groups are studied. Furthermore, we found a new representation of the Laplacian Green function and the Heat Kernel on Hyperbolic Spaces $\mathbb{H}^{n}$, and a setup for the construction of the harmonic functions in terms of the spinor representation of pseudo-orthogonal groups. Finally, to obtain an explicit construction of the Laplacian eigenfunctions on the Bolza Riemann surface, we propose and conjecture a new strategy relying on the Abel-Jacobi map of the Riemann surface to its Jacobian variety and the Siegel Theta function.

Existence of a supersymmetric extension of the gauged non-linear $Σ$-model and the transition from integrability to chaos

The non-linear $Σ$-Model minimally coupled with Maxwell theory in $3+1$ dimensions possesses a topologically non-trivial sector characterized by ``lasagna''-like configurations. We demonstrate that, when a specific quantization condition is met, the associated second-order field equations admit a first-order Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield system. This discloses a hidden $(1+1)$-dimensional supersymmetry with $\mathcal{N}=2$ supercharges. We examine the supersymmetric imprint on the time-dependent regime, with particular emphasis on the transition from integrability to chaos.

On U-Folds and Their Construction

We review a general paradigm for constructing U-fold backgrounds in (dimensionally reduced) Type IIB superstring theory, of the form ${\rm AdS}_{d-1}\times S^1\times S^d$, with a monodromy along $S^1$ in the string-duality group. We also consider a special instance with $d=3$ in Type IIB superstring theory, discuss its ten-dimensional uplift and assess its supersymmetry.

The Instability of Low-Temperature Black Holes in Gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ Supergravity

We consider the static planar black hole solutions in the STU model of the gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity in four dimensions. We give a straightforward derivation of the equation of state of the purely electric and purely magnetic solutions with four charges. Then we give a simple proof that the determinant of the Hessian of the energy is always negative below some critical finite temperature for the purely electric solutions. We compute the spinodal line for the usual planar Reissner-Nordström solution in four dimensions. Inspired by the magnetic superalgebra we show that the supersymmetric solutions are metastable if the energy is restricted to satisfy the topological twist condition ab initio and it is shifted to be zero on the BPS solutions.

Supersymmetric AdS Solitons and the interconnection of different vacua of ${\cal N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills

We find AdS soliton solutions in 5-dimensional gauged supergravity, obtained from the $S^5$ compactification of type IIB, with a dilaton saturating the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. The solutions depend on the value of the periodicity of an $S^1$ cycle and the boundary values for two $U(1)$ gauge fields, and give a scalar VEV in the dual field theory. At certain values of the gauge sources we have supersymmetric solutions, corresponding to supersymmetric flows, which are a deformation of the Coulomb Branch flow in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. The solutions parameterize quantum phase transitions between a discrete spectrum phase, a continuous above a mass gap phase, and a continuous without a mass gap phase, in 2+1 dimensions. We analyze the phase diagram in terms of the QFT sources and we find that for every value for them, there are always two branches of supergravity solutions. We find that these two branches of solitons correspond to two possible vacua existing in the dual QFT when fermions are anti-periodic on an $S^1$. We describe the interconnection of these states in the QFT at strong 't Hooft coupling in the large $N$ limit. In 10 dimensions, our solutions are related to deformations of D3-brane distributions.

Overflying Nilpotent Horizons

We study solutions of Einstein equations with negative cosmological constant in five dimensions that describe black holes whose event horizons are homogeneous, anisotropic spaces. We focus on the case where the constant-time slices of the horizon are the Nil geometry, the Thurston geometry associated to the Heisenberg group. For such spaces, we analyze the symmetries both in the asymptotic region and in the near horizon region. We compute the associated conserved charges, which turn out to be finite and admit a sensible physical interpretation. We analyze the thermodynamics of the Nil black hole, and we present a stationary spinning generalization of it in the slowly rotating approximation.

Exact oscillations and chaos on a non-Abelian coil

We construct new exact solutions of the Georgi-Glashow model in $3+1$ dimensions. These configurations are periodic in time but lead to a stationary energy density and no energy flux. Nevertheless, they possess a characteristic frequency which manifests itself through non-trivial resonances on test fields. This allows us to interpret them as non-Abelian self sustained coils. We show that for larger energies a transition to chaotic behavior takes place, which we characterize by Poincaré sections, Fourier spectra and exponential growth of the geodesic deviation in an effective Jacobi metric, the latter triggered by parametric resonances.

Confinement and D5 branes

In this work we present new solutions of type IIB supergravity based on wrapped D5 branes. We propose that two of these backgrounds are holographically dual to Quantum Field Theories that confine. The high energy regime of the field theories is that of a Little String Theory. We study various observables (Wilson and 't Hooft loops, Entanglement entropy, density of degrees of freedom and the spectrum of spin-two glueballs, among others). We also present two new black membrane backgrounds and analyse some thermodynamic aspects of these solutions.

Mixing "Magnetic'' and "Electric'' Ehlers--Harrison transformations: The Electromagnetic Swirling Spacetime and Novel Type I Backgrounds

In this paper, we obtain a complete list of stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes, generated from a Minkowski spacetime using the Ernst technique. We do so by operating on the associated seed potentials with a composition of Ehlers and Harrison transformations. In particular, assigning an additional ``electric'' or ``magnetic'' tag to the transformations, we investigate the new spacetimes obtained either via a composition of magnetic Ehlers and Harrison transformations (first part) or via a magnetic-electric combination (second part). In the first part, the resulting type D spacetime, dubbed electromagnetic swirling universe, features key properties, separately found in swirling and (Bonnor--)Melvin spacetimes, the latter recovered in appropriate limits. A detailed analysis of the geometry is included, and subtle issues are addressed. A detailed proof that the spacetime belongs to the Kundt family, is included, and a notable relation to the planar-Reissner-Nordström-NUT black hole is also meticulously worked out. This relation is further exploited to reverse-engineer the form of the solution in the presence of a nontrivial cosmological constant. A Schwarzschild black hole embedded into the new background is also discussed. In the second part, we present four novel stationary and axisymmetric asymptotically nonflat type I spacetimes, which are naively expected to be extensions of the Melvin or swirling solution including a NUT parameter or electromagnetic charges. We actually find that they are, under conditions, free of curvature and topological singularities, with the physical meaning of the electric transformation parameters in these backgrounds requiring further investigation.

Confinement in $(1+1)$ dimensions: a holographic perspective from I-branes

In this paper we holographically study the strongly coupled dynamics of the field theory on I-branes (D5 branes intersecting on a line). In this regime, the field theory becomes $(2 + 1)$ dimensional with 16 supercharges. The dual background has an IR singularity. We resolve this singularity by compactifying the theory on a circle, preserving 4 supercharges. We study various aspects: confinement, symmetry breaking, Entanglement Entropy, etc. We also discuss a black membrane solution and make some comments on the string $σ$-model on our backgrounds.

Slowly rotating and the accelerating $α'$-corrected black holes in four and higher dimensions

We consider the low-energy effective action of string theory at order $α'$, including $R^2$-corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert gravitational action and non-trivial dilaton coupling. By means of a convenient field redefinition, we manage to express the theory in a frame that enables us to solve its field equations analytically and perturbatively in $α' $ for a static spherically symmetric ansatz in an arbitrary number of dimensions. The set of solutions we obtain is compatible with asymptotically flat geometries exhibiting a regular event horizon at which the dilaton is well-behaved. For the 4-dimensional case, we also derive the stationary black hole configuration at first order in $α'$ and in the slowly rotating approximation. This yields string theory modifications to the Kerr geometry, including terms of the form $a$, $a^2$, $α'$ and $aα'$. In addition, we obtain the first $α'$ correction to the C-metrics, which accommodates accelerating black holes. We work in the string frame and discuss the connection to the Einstein frame, for which rotating black holes have already been obtained in the literature.

$R^{2}$ corrections to the black string instability and the boosted black string

We consider a perturbative Gauss-Bonnet term supplementing the Einstein-Hilbert action, and evaluate its effect on the spectrum of the scalar mode that triggers the Gregory-Laflamme instability of black strings in five dimensional General Relativity. After studying some properties of the static black string, we provide the correction to the Lichnerowicz operator up to $\mathcal{O}(α^2)$. For the scalar mode of the gravitational perturbation, we find a master variable and study its spectrum, providing an analysis of the regime of validity of our scheme. We show that the instability persists under the inclusion of the $R^2$-correction, and that the critical wavelength increases with the value of $α/r_+^2<<1$, providing new evidence of the phenomenon which was already observed in other approaches. We also construct the boosted black strings and compute the correction to the mass, the momentum and the tension due to the higher curvature term. The presence of the dimensionful coupling $α$ spoils the validity of the Smarr relation, which is the gravitational version of the Euler relation which must hold for every homogeneous, thermodynamic system. We show that this identity can be restored by working in an extended thermodynamic setup that includes variations of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling.
