Quantum Wire as Open System

The faithful exchange of quantum information will soon become one of the challenges of the emerging quantum information technology. One of the possible solutions is to transfer a superposition through a chain of properly coupled spins. Such a system is called a quantum wire. We discuss the transfer in a quantum wire \cite{christ,niko1,niko2}, when the process of thermalization of the state takes place together with the free evolution. We investigate which encoding scheme is more faithful in certain thermal conditions.

Off-Diagonal-Long-Range-Order Versus Entanglement

In this short note we discuss the relation between the so-called Off-Diagonal-Long-Range-Order in many-body interacting quantum systems introduced by C. N. Yang in Rev. Mod. Phys. {\bf 34}, 694 (1962) and entanglement. We argue that there is a direct relation between these two concepts.

Analysis of critical parameters in the scheme of Björk, Jonsson, and Sánchez-Soto

Björk, Jonsson, and Sánchez-Soto describe an interesting (gedanken-)experiment which demonstrates that single photons can indeed lead to effects which have no local realistic description. %It is one of few cases where the experimental falsification of the conjecture of local realism has been done with use of the CH inequality, rather that the CHSH inequality. We study the critical values of parameters of some possible features of a non-perfect realisation of the experiment (especially photon loss, which could be looked at as the detection efficiency), that need to be satisfied so that the experiment can be considered as a valid test of quantum mechanics versus local realism. Interestingly, the scheme turns out to be robust against photon loss.

Spatial Entanglement of Bosons in Thermal Equilibrium

We investigate spatial entanglement in a system of spinless non-interacting bosons in a one dimensional harmonic trap described by the grand canonical ensemble. We find the lower bound for the amount of spatial entanglement contained in the average state of two bosons in the trap and show that it exists for arbitrary high temperatures.

Rotational invariance as an additional constraint on local realism

Rotational invariance of physical laws is a generally accepted principle. We show that it leads to an additional external constraint on local realistic models of physical phenomena involving measurements of multiparticle spin 1/2 correlations. This new constraint rules out such models even in some situations in which standard Bell inequalities allow for explicit construction of such models. The whole analysis is performed without any additional assumptions on the form of local realistic models.

Family of Zeilinger-Horne-Greenberger "W" states lead to stronger nonclassicality than family of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger "GHZ" states

The N-qubit states of the W class, for N>10, lead to more robust (against noise admixture) violations of local realism, than the GHZ states. These violations are most pronounced for correlations for a pair of qubits, conditioned on specific measurement results for the remaining (N-2) qubits. The considerations provide us with a qualitative difference between the W state and GHZ state in the situation when they are separately sent via depolarizing channels. For sufficiently high amount of noise in the depolarizing channel, the GHZ states cannot produce a distillable state between two qubits, whereas the W states can still produce a distillable state in a similar situation.

Do all pure entangled states violate Bell's inequalities for correlation functions?

Any pure entangled state of two particles violates a Bell inequality for two-particle correlation functions (Gisin's theorem). We show that there exist pure entangled N>2 qubit states that do not violate any Bell inequality for N particle correlation functions for experiments involving two dichotomic observables per local measuring station. We also find that Mermin-Ardehali-Belinskii-Klyshko inequalities may not always be optimal for refutation of local realistic description.
