Tensorial Constraints for Commuting Endomorphisms of the Generalized Tangent Bundle

In this paper we consider families of mutually commuting endomorphisms of the generalized tangent bundle. We identify natural tensorial constraints extending the notion of a generalized K\"ahler structure to endomorphisms that are not necessarily generalized almost complex structures. These tensors form ideals whose generators we explicitly construct and study using Gr\"obner basis techniques.

Invertible Calabi-Yau Orbifolds over Finite Fields II

We state a conjecture about the zeta function of crepant resolutions of Berglund--H\"ubsch orbifold hypersurfaces over a finite field. In addition to numerical evidence, we show that our conjectural zeta function satisfies the Weil conjectures and we elucidate its connection with Monsky--Washnitzer cohomology.

Independence Polynomials of 2-step Nilpotent Lie Algebras

Motivated by the Dani-Mainkar construction, we extend the notion of independence polynomial of graphs to arbitrary 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras. After establishing efficiently computable upper and lower bounds for the independence number, we discuss a metric-dependent generalization motivated by a quantum mechanical interpretation of our construction. As an application, we derive elementary bounds for the dimension of abelian subalgebras of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras.

Invertible Calabi-Yau Orbifolds over Finite Fields

In the context of Berglund-Huebsch mirror symmetry, we compute the eigenvalues of the Frobenius endomorphism acting on a p-adic version of Borisov's complex. As a result, we conjecture an explicit formula for the number of points of crepant resolutions of invertible Calabi-Yau orbifolds defined over a finite field.

An unholy trinity: TFNP, polynomial systems, and the quantum satisfiability problem

The theory of Total Function NP (TFNP) and its subclasses says that, even if one is promised an efficiently verifiable proof exists for a problem, finding this proof can be intractable. Despite the success of the theory at showing intractability of problems such as computing Brouwer fixed points and Nash equilibria, subclasses of TFNP remain arguably few and far between. In this work, we define two new subclasses of TFNP borne of the study of complex polynomial systems: Multi-homogeneous Systems (MHS) and Sparse Fundamental Theorem of Algebra (SFTA). The first of these is based on B\'ezout's theorem from algebraic geometry, marking the first TFNP subclass based on an algebraic geometric principle. At the heart of our study is the computational problem known as Quantum SAT (QSAT) with a System of Distinct Representatives (SDR), first studied by [Laumann, L\"auchli, Moessner, Scardicchio, and Sondhi 2010]. Among other results, we show that QSAT with SDR is MHS-complete, thus giving not only the first link between quantum complexity theory and TFNP, but also the first TFNP problem whose classical variant (SAT with SDR) is easy but whose quantum variant is hard. We also show how to embed the roots of a sparse, high-degree, univariate polynomial into QSAT with SDR, obtaining that SFTA is contained in a zero-error version of MHS. We conjecture this construction also works in the low-error setting, which would imply SFTA is contained in MHS.

On the cohomology of Lie algebras associated with graphs

We describe a canonical decomposition of the cohomology of the Dani-Mainkar metabelian Lie algebras associated with graphs. As applications, we obtain explicit formulas for the third cohomology of any Dani-Mainkar Lie algebra and for the cohomology in all degrees of Lie algebras associated with arbitrary star graphs. We also describe a procedure to reduce the calculation of the cohomology of solvable Lie algebras associated with graphs through the Grantcharov-Grantcharov-Iliev construction to the cohomology of Dani-Mainkar Lie algebras.

A note on the shifted Courant-Nijenhuis torsion

We characterize the vanishing of the shifted Courant-Nijenhuis torsion as the strongest tensorial integrability condition that can be imposed on a skew-symmetric endomorphism of the generalized tangent bundle.

Sparse systems of functions and quasi-analytic classes

We provide a new characterization of quasi-analyticity of Denjoy-Carleman classes, related to \emph{Wetzel's Problem}. We also completely resolve which Denjoy-Carleman classes carry \emph{sparse systems}: if the Continuum Hypothesis (CH) holds, \textbf{all} Denjoy-Carleman classes carry sparse systems; but if CH fails, a Denjoy-Carleman class carries a sparse system if and only if it is not quasi-analytic. As corollaries, we extend results of \cite{MR3552748} and \cite{CodyCoxLee} about non-existence of "anonymous predictors" for real functions.

2-step Nilpotent $L_\infty$-algebras and Hypergraphs

We describe a procedure to attach a nilpotent strong homotopy Lie algebra to every simple hypergraph and prove that two hypergraphs are isomorphic if and only if the corresponding strong homotopy Lie algebras are isomorphic. As an application, we characterize hypergraphs admitting a system of distinct representatives in terms of symplectic forms on the corresponding strong homotopy Lie algebra. We conclude with a combinatorial description of the cohomology of these strong homotopy Lie algebras in low degree.

Polynomial Structures in Generalized Geometry

On the generalized tangent bundle of a smooth manifold, we study skew-symmetric endomorphism satisfying an arbitrary polynomial equation with real constant coefficients. We study the compatibility of these structures with the de Rham operator and the Courant-Dorfman bracket. In particular we isolate several conditions that when restricted to the motivating example of generalized almost complex structure are equivalent to the notion of integrability.

On efficiently solvable cases of Quantum k-SAT

The constraint satisfaction problems k-SAT and Quantum k-SAT (k-QSAT) are canonical NP-complete and QMA_1-complete problems (for k>=3), respectively, where QMA_1 is a quantum generalization of NP with one-sided error. Whereas k-SAT has been well-studied for special tractable cases, as well as from a parameterized complexity perspective, much less is known in similar settings for k-QSAT. Here, we study the open problem of computing satisfying assignments to k-QSAT instances which have a "matching" or "dimer covering"; this is an NP problem whose decision variant is trivial, but whose search complexity remains open. Our results fall into three directions, all of which relate to the "matching" setting: (1) We give a polynomial-time classical algorithm for k-QSAT when all qubits occur in at most two clauses. (2) We give a parameterized algorithm for k-QSAT instances from a certain non-trivial class, which allows us to obtain exponential speedups over brute force methods in some cases. This is achieved by reducing the problem to solving for a single root of a single univariate polynomial. (3) We conduct a structural graph theoretic study of 3-QSAT interaction graphs which have a "matching". We remark that the results of (2), in particular, introduce a number of new tools to the study of Quantum SAT, including graph theoretic concepts such as transfer filtrations and blow-ups from algebraic geometry.

Arithmetical Semirings

We study the number of connected graphs with $n$ vertices that cannot be written as the cartesian product of two graphs with fewer vertices. We give an upper bound which implies that for large $n$ almost all graphs are both connected and cartesian prime. For graphs with an even number of vertices, a full asymptotic expansion is obtained. Our method, inspired by Knopfmacher's theory of arithmetical semigroups, is based on reduction to Wright's asymptotic expansion for the number of connected graphs with $n$ vertices.

Darboux Calculus

We introduce a formalism to analyze partially defined functions between ordered sets. We show that our construction provides a uniform and conceptual approach to all the main definitions encountered in elementary real analysis including Dedekind cuts, limits and continuity.

Asymptotic Expansion of Warlimont Functions on Wright Semigroups

We calculate full asymptotic expansions of prime-independent multiplicative functions on additive arithmetic semigroups that satisfy a strong form of Knopfmacher's axioms. When applied to the semigroup of unlabeled graphs, our method yields detailed asymptotic information on how graphs decompose into connected components. As a second class of examples, we discuss polynomials in several variables over a finite field.

Generalized Almost Product Structures and Generalized CRF-structures

We give several equivalent characterizations of orthogonal subbundles of the generalized tangent bundle defined, up to B-field transform, by almost product and local product structures. We also introduce a pure spinor formalism for generalized CRF-structure and investigate the resulting decomposition of the de Rham operator. As applications we give a characterization of generalized complex manifolds that are locally the product of generalized complex factors and discuss infinitesimal deformations of generalized CRF-structures.

On a complex-symplectic mirror pair

We study the canonical Poisson structure on the loop space of the super-double-twisted-torus and its quantization. As a consequence we obtain a rigorous construction of mirror symmetry as an intertwiner of the N=2 super-conformal structures on the super-symmetric sigma-models on the Kodaira-Thurston nilmanifold and a gerby torus of complex dimension 2. As an application we are able to identify global moduli of equivariant generalized complex structures on these target spaces with moduli of equivariant orthogonal complex structures on the doubled geometry.

An Abstract Morimoto Theorem for Generalized $F$-structures

We abstract Morimoto's construction of complex structures on product manifolds to pairs of certain generalized $F$-structures on manifolds that are not necessarily global products. As applications we characterize invariant generalized complex structures on product manifolds in which one factor is a Lie group and we generalize a theorem of Blair, Ludden and Yano on Hermitian bicontact manifolds.
