Higgs Boson Pair Production via Gluon Fusion: Higher-Order Corrections and Theoretical Uncertainties

In this contribution, the higher-order QCD and electroweak corrections to Standard Model Higgs boson pair production via the gluon-fusion mechanism, $gg\to hh$, are summarized and the different sources of theoretical uncertainty are assessed. The discussion includes finite top quark mass effects, matching to parton showers, approximate NNLO and N$^3$LO QCD corrections, NLO electroweak effects, and uncertainties associated with the top quark mass scheme and perturbative scale choices. In addition, we provide an updated state-of-the-art recommendation for the inclusive gluon-fusion Higgs boson pair production cross section and the corresponding Higgs boson pair invariant-mass distribution.

Electroweak corrections to Higgs boson pair production: The quark channel

We present the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to Higgs boson pair production in the quark-antiquark channel. The virtual amplitudes are computed fully analytically using the method of differential equations. We determine the integration constants by matching our expressions to the large mass expansion limit of the canonical integrals. We implement the results in the POWHEG-BOX framework for phenomenological studies. The corrections are found to have a significant impact on the shapes of differential cross sections, reaching up to +10% for the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs boson pair near the production threshold. This channel has not been considered before in calculations of the next-to-leading order electroweak corrections to Higgs boson pair production.

A Beta-GAM Hidden Markov Model for Proportion Time Series

We propose a hidden Markov model for univariate proportion time series taking values in (0,1), where regime switching captures latent structural changes and the emission distribution belongs to the Beta family. In each latent state, the Beta mean is linked to covariates through a generalized additive model (GAM) with spline-based smooth functions, while the Beta precision is state-specific, enabling flexible modeling of both nonlinear covariate effects and regime-dependent variability. Estimation is carried out via a penalized expectation--maximization algorithm, combining smoothing with numerical maximization of the penalized emission likelihood. To select the number of latent states and the smoothing penalty, we implement a grid search guided by standard information criteria (Akaike Information Criterion/Bayesian Information Criterion/Integrated Completed Likelihood) with a diagnostic filter that removes degenerate solutions characterized by explosive precision estimates. Uncertainty is quantified through a parametric bootstrap procedure for transition probabilities and state-dependent parameters. Simulation results demonstrate accurate recovery of transition dynamics, state precisions, and latent-state decoding. A motivating application to Russian age-specific mortality data (1960--2014, ages 0--40) illustrates how the proposed model summarizes smooth age patterns in female-to-total mortality ratios while identifying two persistent latent regimes that admit a substantive demographic interpretation in light of the country's well-documented mortality shocks that occurred over the second half of the twentieth century.

NLO QCD corrections to the electroweak production of a Higgs boson pair in the quark-antiquark channel

Higgs boson pair production in the massless quark-antiquark channel proceeds at leading order (LO) via electroweak boson loops. We calculate the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to this process. For the corresponding two-loop amplitudes, an analytic representation has been achieved. Even though the size of this contribution at the level of total cross sections is below 1% compared to the LO gluon channel, the effect on differential observables can be in the 10% range and therefore this contribution should be taken into account when comparing to LHC data.

Towards the full NLO electro-weak corrections to Higgs boson pair production

Constraining the Higgs boson self-interaction is one of the main goals for the high luminosity phase of the LHC. A promising channel to this aim is the simultaneous production of two Higgs bosons from gluon fusion. For the interpretation of the data, precise theoretical predictions, also for differential cross sections, are needed. Following current projections this requires electroweak corrections at next-to-leading order. We present the contributions of top-Yukawa and Higgs self-interaction-type, as well as the first steps towards inclusion of the complete NLO electroweak corrections.

Multivariate Shared Frailty Cure-Rate models: a focus on Breast Cancer family history

We discuss a shift in perspective from traditional approaches to breast cancer risk prediction: modelling families rather than individuals as unit of analysis. By investigating the latent familial risk underlying breast cancer diagnoses, we introduce a Multivariate Shared Frailty Cure-Rate model. This model captures the familial risk as a shared frailty among members and explicitly accounts for a fraction of women not susceptible to breast cancer. We aim at identifying the high-risk families to better target screening and prevention, ultimately improving early detection. A comparative analysis with Cox models and univariate models - where a binary risk indicator acts as best guess for the latent high-risk group - is conducted using simulation studies and data from the Swedish Multi-Generational Breast Cancer registry. We demonstrate the critical importance of using complete family history of breast cancer to accurately identify high-risk families and show that the Multivariate Shared Frailty Cure-Rate model, capturing both the fraction of non-susceptible subjects and the survival distribution among susceptibles, enhances explanatory power, improves prediction accuracy, and offers a broader representation of the disease process.

Two-loop light-quark Electroweak corrections to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion

We compute two-loop electroweak corrections to double Higgs boson production in gluon fusion mediated by light quarks in a fully analytical way. We determine a basis of master integrals satisfying canonical differential equations in $\mathrm{d}\log$ form, enhanced by subsequent rotations to remove unnecessary functions that do not appear in the analytic expressions of the amplitudes. We determine the integration constants by matching our expressions to the large mass expansion limit of the canonical integrals. We express the solution of differential equations in terms of Chen iterated integrals up to transcendental weight six over logarithmic kernels with algebraic arguments, and further decompose them by employing a basis of uniform weight functions. By deriving differential equations for such basis, we provide numerical results as well as routines for optimised numerical evaluations.

$WH$ production at the LHC within SMEFT at next-to-next-to-leading order QCD

We study the impact of $q \bar q' W$ and $q \bar q' WH$ interactions, originating from dimension-six operators of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), on the Higgs boson associated production $pp \to W^+H$ at the LHC. We compute the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to this process and compare these corrections in the Standard Model and SMEFT production mechanisms.

Next-to-leading order mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to Higgs production at the LHC

After ten years from its discovery, the Higgs boson is still under unprecedented scrutiny. A huge theoretical effort has been invested in modelling Higgs boson production through gluon fusion, reaching $\text{N}^3\text{LO}$ predictions in pure QCD. This incredible theoretical achievement makes the exact computation of sub-leading contributions, such as mixed QCD-Electroweak corrections, necessary. I will present the analytic calculation of the gluon- and quark-initiated two-loop four-point contributions to such class of corrections mediated by light quarks at order $v \alpha^2 \alpha_S^{3/2}$.

Mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to Higgs plus jet production at the LHC

The detailed study of the Higgs boson is one of the main tasks of contemporary particle physics. Gluon fusion, the main production channel of Higgs bosons at the LHC, has been successfully modelled in QCD up to $\text{N}^3\text{LO}$. To fully exploit this unprecedented theoretical effort, sub-leading contributions, such as electroweak corrections, must be investigated. I will present the analytic calculations of the gluon- and quark-induced Higgs plus jet amplitudes in mixed QCD-electroweak corrections mediated by light quarks up to order $v \alpha^2 \alpha_S^{3/2}$.

Two-loop mixed QCD-EW corrections to $q \overline{q} \to H g$, $qg \to Hq$, and $\overline{q}g \to H\overline{q}$

We compute the two-loop mixed QCD-Electroweak corrections to $q \overline{q} \to H g$ and its crossed channels $q g \to H q$, $\overline{q} g \to H \overline{q}$, limiting ourselves to the contribution of light virtual quarks. We compute the independent helicity amplitudes as well as the form factors for this process, expressing them in terms of hyperlogarithms with algebraic arguments. The Feynman integrals are computed by direct integration over Feynman parameters and the results are expressed in terms of a basis of rational prefactors.

Two-loop mixed QCD-EW corrections to $gg \to Hg$

We compute the two-loop mixed QCD-Electroweak (QCD-EW) corrections to the production of a Higgs boson and a gluon in gluon fusion. The relevant four-point functions with internal massive propagators are expressed as multiple polylogarithms with algebraic arguments. We perform the calculation by integration over Feynman parameters and, independently, by the method of differential equations. We compute the two independent helicity amplitudes for the process and we find that they are both finite. Moreover, we observe a weight drop when all gluons have the same helicity. We also provide a simplified expression for the all-plus helicity amplitude, which is optimised for fast and reliable numerical evaluation in the physical region.

Epilocal: a real-time tool for local epidemic monitoring

We describe Epilocal, a simple R program designed to automatically download the most recent data on reported infected SARS-CoV-2 cases for all Italian provinces and regions, and to provide a simple descriptive analysis. For each province the cumulative number of reported infected cases is available each day. In addition, the current numbers of hospitalized patients (separately for intensive care or not) and the cumulative number of deceased individuals are available at the region level. The data are analyzed through Poisson generalized linear models with logarithmic link function and polynomial regression on time. For cumulative data, we also consider a logistic parameterisation of the hazard function. Automatic model selection is performed to choose among the different model specifications, based on the statistical significance of the corresponding estimated parameters and on goodness-of-fit assessment. The chosen model is used to produce up-to-today estimates of the growth rate of the counts. Results are plotted on a map of the country to allow for a visual assessment of the geographic distribution of the areas with differential prevalence and rates of growth.

NLO mixed QCD-EW corrections to Higgs gluon fusion

The study of the Higgs boson properties is one of the main tasks of contemporary high-energy physics. Among Higgs properties, its interaction with gluons is interesting since it can be facilitated by yet unknown elementary particles. One of the major sources of uncertainty in the theoretical description of $ggH$ coupling originates from mixed QCD-electroweak contributions. The NLO QCD corrections to these contributions were evaluated in the approximation where electroweak boson masses were considered to be significantly larger than the mass of the Higgs boson and it is desirable to compute these corrections for physical masses of the gauge bosons and the Higgs boson. We present a major step towards this goal and describe first the analytic evaluation of NLO mixed QCD-EW three-loop virtual corrections to $gg \to H$, and then their implementation in the evaluation of the total cross section for $gg \to H$ in the soft-gluon approximation for real corrections.

Higher order corrections to mixed QCD-EW contributions to Higgs production in gluon fusion

We present an estimate of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to mixed QCD-electroweak contribution to Higgs boson production cross section in gluon fusion, combining the recently computed three-loop virtual corrections and the approximate treatment of real emission in the soft approximation. We find that the NLO QCD corrections to mixed QCD-electroweak contributions are nearly identical to NLO QCD corrections to QCD Higgs production. Our result confirms an earlier estimate of these ${\cal O}\left( α\, α_s^2 \right)$ effects in arXiv:0811.3458 [hep-ph] and provides further support for the factorization approximation of QCD and electroweak corrections.

Two-loop electroweak corrections to Higgs-gluon couplings to higher orders in the dimensional regularization parameter

We compute the two-loop electroweak correction to the production of the Higgs boson in gluon fusion to higher orders in the dimensional-regularization parameter $ε= (d-4)/2$. We employ the method of differential equations to compute the relevant integrals and express them in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. Our result provides one of the necessary inputs for the computation of mixed three-loop QCD-electroweak corrections to $gg \to H$.

Thermoelectric energy recovery at ionic-liquid/electrode interface

A Thermally Chargeable Capacitor containing a binary solution of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (EMIMTFSI) in acetonitrile is electrically charged by applying a tempera- ture gradient to two ideally polarisable electrodes. The corresponding thermoelectric coefficient is -1.7 mV/K for platinum foil electrodes and -0.3 mV/K for nanoporous carbon electrodes. Stored electrical energy is extracted by discharging the capacitor through a resistor. The measured capacitance of the electrode/ionic- liquid interface is 5 micro $μ$F for each platinum electrode while it becomes four orders of magnitude larger $\approx 36$ mF for a single nanoporous carbon electrode. Reproducibility of the effect through repeated charging-discharging cycles under a steady-state temperature gradient demonstrates the robustness of the electrical charging pro- cess at the liquid/electrode interface. The acceleration of the charging by convective flows is also observed. This offers the possibility to convert waste-heat into electric energy without exchanging electrons between ions and electrodes, in contrast to what occurs in most thermogalvanic cells.
