When the associated graded ring of a semigroup ring is Complete Intersection

Let (R, m) be the semigroup ring associated to a numerical semigroup S. In this paper we study the property of its associated graded ring G(m) to be Complete Intersection. In particular, we introduce and characterise beta-rectangular and gamma-rectangular Apéry sets, which will be the fundamental concepts of the paper and will provide, respectively, a sufficient condition and a characterisation for G(m) to be Complete Intersection. Then we use these notions to give four equivalent conditions for G(m) in order to be Complete Intersection.

The numerical duplication of a numerical semigroup

In this paper we present and study the numerical duplication of a numerical semigroup, a construction that, starting with a numerical semigroup $S$ and a semigroup ideal $E\subseteq S$, produces a new numerical semigroup, denoted by $S\Join^b\E$ (where $b$ is any odd integer belonging to $S$), such that $S=(S\Join^b\E)/2$. In particular, we characterize the ideals $E$ such that $S\Join^bE$ is almost symmetric and we determine its type.

On the associated graded ring of a semigroup ring

Let (R;m) be a numerical semigroup ring. In this paper we study the properties of its associated graded ring G(m). In particular, we describe the H^0_M for G(m) (where M is the homogeneous maximal ideal of G(m)) and we characterize when G(m) is Buchsbaum. Furthermore, we find the length of H^0_M as a G(m)-module, when G(m) is Buchsbaum. In the 3-generated numerical semigroup case, we describe the H^0_M in term of the Apery set of the numerical semigroup associated to R. Finally, we improve two characterizations of the Cohen-Macaulayness and Gorensteinness of G(m) given in [2] and [3], respectively.

Properties of chains of prime ideals in an amalgamated algebra along an ideal

Let $f:A \to B$ be a ring homomorphism and let $J$ be an ideal of $B$. In this paper, we study the amalgamation of $A$ with $B$ along $J$ with respect to $f$ (denoted by ${A\Join^fJ}$), a construction that provides a general frame for studying the amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal, introduced and studied by D'Anna and Fontana in 2007, and other classical constructions (such as the $A+ XB[X]$, the $A+ XB[[X]]$ and the $D+M$ constructions). In particular, we completely describe the prime spectrum of the amalgamated duplication and we give bounds for its Krull dimension.

Amalgamated algebras along an ideal

Let $f:A \to B$ be a ring homomorphism and $J$ an ideal of $B$. In this paper, we initiate a systematic study of a new ring construction called the "amalgamation of $A$ with $B$ along $J$ with respect to $f$". This construction finds its roots in a paper by J.L. Dorroh appeared in 1932 and provides a general frame for studying the amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal, introduced and studied by D'Anna and Fontana in 2007, and other classical constructions such as the $A+ XB[X]$ and $A+ XB[[X]]$ constructions, the CPI-extensions of Boisen and Sheldon, the $D+M$ constructions and the Nagata's idealization.

An amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal: the basic properties

We introduce a new general construction, denoted by $R\JoinE$, called the amalgamated duplication of a ring $R$ along an $R$--module $E$, that we assume to be an ideal in some overring of $R$. (Note that, when $E^2 =0$, $R\JoinE$ coincides with the Nagata's idealization $R\ltimes E$.) After discussing the main properties of the amalgamated duplication $R\JoinE$ in relation with pullback--type constructions, we restrict our investigation to the study of $R\JoinE$ when $E$ is an ideal of $R$. Special attention is devoted to the ideal-theoretic properties of $R\JoinE$ and to the topological structure of its prime spectrum.

The amalgamated duplication of a ring along a multiplicative-canonical ideal

After recalling briefly the main properties of the amalgamated duplication of a ring $R$ along an ideal $I$, denoted by $R\JoinI$, we restrict our attention to the study of the properties of $R\JoinI$, when $I$ is a multiplicative canonical ideal of $R$ \cite{hhp}. In particular, we study when every regular fractional ideal of $R\Join I$ is divisorial.

Arf characters of an algebroid curve

Two algebroid branches are said to be equivalent if they have the same multiplicity sequence. It is known that two algebroid branches $R$ and $T$ are equivalent if and only if their Arf closures, $R'$ and $T'$ have the same value semigroup, which is an Arf numerical semigroup and can be expressed in terms of a finite set of information, a set of characters of the branch. We extend the above equivalence to algebroid curves with $d>1$ branches. An equivalence class is described, in this more general context, by an Arf semigroup, that is not a numerical semigroup, but is a subsemigroup of $\mathbb N^d$. We express this semigroup in terms of a finite set of information, a set of characters of the curve, and apply this result to determine other curves equivalent to a given one.

On plane algebroid curves

Two plane analytic branches are topologically equivalent if and only if they have the same multiplicity sequence. We show that having same semigroup is equivalent to having same multiplicity sequence, we calculate the semigroup from a parametrization, and we characterize semigroups for plane branches. These results are known, but the proofs are new. Furthermore we characterize multiplicity sequences of plane branches, and we prove that the associated graded ring, with respect to the values, of a plane branch is a complete intersection.
