Hedging market risk and uncertainty via a robust portfolio approach

Shorting for hedging exposes to risk when the market dynamics is uncertain. Managing uncertainty and risk exposure is key in portfolio management practice. This paper develops a robust framework for dynamic minimum-variance hedging that explicitly accounts for forecast uncertainty in volatility and covariance estimation to achieve empirical stability and reduced turnover, further improving other standard performance metrics. The approach combines high-frequency realized variance and covariance measures, autoregressive models for multi-step volatility forecasting, and a box-uncertainty robust optimization scheme. We derive a closed-form solution for the robust hedge ratio, which adjusts the standard minimum-variance hedge by incorporating variance and covariance forecast uncertainty. Using a diversified sample of equity, bond, and commodity ETFs over 2016-2024, we show that robust hedge ratios are more stable and entail lower turnover than standard dynamic hedges. While overall variance reduction is comparable, the robust approach improves downside protection and risk-adjusted performance, particularly when transaction costs are considered. Bootstrap evidence supports the statistical significance of these gains.

A deep solver for BSDEs with jumps

The aim of this work is to propose an extension of the deep solver by Han, Jentzen, E (2018) to the case of forward backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) with jumps. As in the aforementioned solver, starting from a discretized version of the FBSDE and parametrizing the (high dimensional) control processes by means of a family of artificial neural networks (ANNs), the FBSDE is viewed as a model-based reinforcement learning problem and the ANN parameters are fitted so as to minimize a prescribed loss function. We take into account both finite and infinite jump activity by introducing, in the latter case, an approximation with finitely many jumps of the forward process. We successfully apply our algorithm to option pricing problems in low and high dimension and discuss the applicability in the context of counterparty credit risk.

A change of measure formula for recursive conditional expectations

In this paper, we derive a representation for the value process associated to the solutions of FBSDEs in a jump-diffusion setting under multiple probability measures. Motivated by concrete financial problems, the latter representations are then applied to devise a generalization of the change of num\'eraire technique allowing to obtain recursive pricing formulas in the presence of multiple interest rates and collateralization.

A confidence-based model for asset and derivative prices in the BitCoin market

We endorse the idea, suggested in recent literature, that BitCoin prices are influenced by sentiment and confidence about the underlying technology; as a consequence, an excitement about the BitCoin system may propagate to BitCoin prices causing a Bubble effect, the presence of which is documented in several papers about the cryptocurrency. In this paper we develop a bivariate model in continuous time to describe the price dynamics of one BitCoin as well as the behavior of a second factor affecting the price itself, which we name confidence indicator. The two dynamics are possibly correlated and we also take into account a delay between the confidence indicator and its delivered effect on the BitCoin price. Statistical properties of the suggested model are investigated and its arbitrage-free property is shown. Further, based on risk-neutral evaluation, a quasi-closed formula is derived for European style derivatives on the BitCoin. A short numerical application is finally provided.
