Operationally Admissible Post-Quantum Correlations from a Standard Quantum Walk

It is shown that a standard one-dimensional coined discrete-time quantum walk can generate operationally admissible post-quantum correlations in a coin-position Bell scenario, without any modification of its unitary nearest-neighbor dynamics. Post-quantum features enter exclusively through an extended operational preparation of the coin, described by a complementarity-violating Hermitian trace-one operator, while physical consistency is enforced solely at the level of observable statistics via admissibility and no-signaling. The extended preparation admits an experimental emulation through a two-component quasiprobability reconstruction over physical coin states, at the price of an increased sampling overhead. The walk-generated coin-position entanglement can support CHSH values exceeding Tsirelson's bound, even though the walk dynamics remains fully standard. We also show that physically natural coarse-grained position measurements can render such post-quantum correlations operationally inaccessible, strongly suppressing observable Bell violations. The purpose here is to contrast the separation between the existence of post-quantum behavior and its accessibility under realistic measurement constraints.

Measurement-Guided State Refinement for Shallow Feedback-Based Quantum Optimization Algorithm

Limited circuit depth remains a central constraint for quantum optimization in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) regime, where shallow unitary dynamics may fail to sufficiently concentrate probability on low-energy configurations. We introduce Measurement-Guided Initialization (MGI), an iterative strategy that uses measurement outcomes from previous executions to update the initialization of subsequent runs. The method extracts single-qubit marginal probabilities from dominant measurement outcomes and prepares a biased product-state initialization, allowing information obtained during optimization to be reused without introducing classical parameter optimization. We implement this approach in the context of the Feedback-Based Algorithm for Quantum Optimization (FALQON) and evaluate its performance on weighted MaxCut instances. Numerical results show that measurement-guided initialization improves the performance of shallow-depth circuits and enables iterative refinement toward high-quality solutions while preserving the non-variational structure of the algorithm. These results indicate that measurement statistics can be exploited to improve shallow quantum optimization protocols compatible with NISQ devices.

Coherence Scaling in Quantum Communication Protocols

We investigate how quantum coherence scales and is redistributed in quantum communication protocols, using superdense coding and quantum teleportation as paradigmatic case studies. Employing the relative entropy of coherence as a circuit-level resource measure, we show that multipartite resource states relevant to generalized superdense coding can enable scalable communication while exhibiting only logarithmic or even constant coherence growth, depending on their entanglement structure. In sharp contrast, quantum teleportation displays an unavoidable, protocol-induced coherence cost that grows linearly with the number of teleported qubits and is independent of the input state. Through a stage-resolved analysis of the teleportation circuit, we separate protocol-generated coherence from message-dependent contributions and identify a universal two-bit coherence offset per teleported qubit at the maximal-coherence stage. We further demonstrate explicitly that this extensive intermediate coherence generation is fully consistent with information-theoretic bounds, including the Holevo limit, and does not correspond to an increase in accessible classical information.

Simulating spin biology using a digital quantum computer: Prospects on a near-term quantum hardware emulator

Understanding the intricate quantum spin dynamics of radical pair reactions is crucial for unraveling the underlying nature of chemical processes across diverse scientific domains. In this work, we leverage Trotterization to map coherent radical pair spin dynamics onto a digital gate-based quantum simulation. Our results demonstrated agreement between the idealized noiseless quantum circuit simulation and established master equation approaches for homogeneous radical pair recombination, identifying approximately 15 Trotter steps to be sufficient for faithfully reproducing the coupled spin dynamics of a prototypical system. By utilizing this computational technique to study the dynamics of spin systems of biological relevance, our findings underscore the potential of digital quantum simulation (DQS) of complex radical pair reactions and builds the groundwork towards more utilitarian investigations into their intricate reaction dynamics. We further investigate the effect of realistic error models on our DQS approach, and provide an upper limit for the number of Trotter steps that can currently be applied in the absence of error mitigation techniques before losing simulation accuracy to deleterious noise effects.

Decoherence in the three-state quantum walk

Quantum walks are dynamic systems with a wide range of applications in quantum computation and quantum simulation of analog systems, therefore it is of common interest to understand what changes from an isolated process to one embedded in an environment. In the present work, we analyze the decoherence in a three-state uni-dimensional quantum walk. The approaches taken into consideration to account for the environment effects are phase and amplitude damping Kraus operators, unitary noise on the coin space, and broken links.

Temperature of the three-state quantum walk

Despite the coined quantum walk being a closed quantum system under a unitary evolution, its Hilbert space can be divided in two sub-spaces, which makes it possible for one to analyze one of the subsystems (the coin or the walker) as an open system in contact with a reservoir. In the present work we calculate the asymptotic reduced density matrix of the coin space of the three-state quantum walk in an infinite line, and use that result to analyze the entanglement between the chirality, and position space. We calculate the von Neumann entropy and the entanglement temperature per mean energy of the system in the asymptotic limit.

Theory of Neutrino Detection -- Flavor Oscillations and Weak Values

We show that, in the relativistic limit, the quantum theory of neutrino oscillations can be described through the theory of weak measurements with pre and post-selection. The weak nature of neutrino detection allows simultaneous determination of flavor and energy without problems related to the collapse of the wavefunction. Together with post-selection, a non-trivial quantum interference emerges, allowing one to describe a flavor neutrino as one single particle, despite its superposition of masses. We write down the flavor equation of motion and calculate the flavor oscillation probability by showing precisely how a single neutrino interferes with itself.

Environment-induced anisotropy and the sensitivity of the radical pair mechanism in the avian compass

Several experiments over the years have shown that the Earth's magnetic field is essential for orientation in birds migration. The most promising explanation for this orientation is the photo-stimulated radical pair (RP) mechanism. In order to define a reference frame for the orientation task radicals must have an intrinsic anisotropy. We show that this kind of anisotropy, and consequently the entanglement in the model, are not necessary for the proper functioning of the compass. Classically correlated initial conditions for the RP, subjected to a fast decoherence process, are able to provide the anisotropy required. Even a dephasing environment can provide the necessary frame for the compass to work, and also implies fast decay of any quantum correlation in the system without damaging the orientation ability. This fact significantly expands the range of applicability of the RP mechanism providing more elements for experimental search.

Nonzero Classical Discord

Quantum discord is the quantitative difference between two alternative expressions for bipartite mutual information, given respectively in terms of two distinct definitions for the conditional entropy. By constructing a stochastic model of shared states, classical discord can be similarly defined, quantifying the presence of some stochasticity in the measurement process. Therefore, discord can generally be understood as a quantification of the system's state disturbance due to local measurements, be it quantum or classical. We establish an operational meaning of classical discord in the context of state merging with noisy measurement and thereby show the quantum-classical separation in terms of a negative conditional entropy.

Minkowski structure for purity and entanglement of Gaussian bipartite states

The relation between the symplectic and Lorentz groups is explored to investigate entanglement features in a two-mode bipartite Gaussian state. We verify that the correlation matrix of arbitrary Gaussian states can be associated to a hyperbolic space with a Minkowski metric, which is divided in two regions - separablelike and entangledlike, in equivalence to timelike and spacelike in special relativity. This correspondence naturally allows the definition of two insightful invariant squared distances measures - one related to the purity and another related to amount of entanglement. The second distance allows us to define a measure for entanglement in terms of the invariant interval between the given state and its closest separable state, given in a natural manner without the requirement of a minimization procedure.

Solovay-Kitaev Decomposition Strategy for Single-Qubit Channels

Inspired by the Solovay-Kitaev decomposition for approximating unitary operations as a sequence of operations selected from a universal quantum computing gate set, we introduce a method for approximating any single-qubit channel using single-qubit gates and the controlled-NOT (CNOT). Our approach uses the decomposition of the single-qubit channel into a convex combination of "quasiextreme" channels. Previous techniques for simulating general single-qubit channels would require as many as 20 CNOT gates, whereas ours only needs one, bringing it within the range of current experiments.

Entanglement irreversibility from quantum discord and quantum deficit

We relate the problem of irreversibility of entanglement with the recently defined measures of quantum correlation - quantum discord and one-way quantum deficit. We show that the entanglement of formation is always strictly larger than the coherent information and the entanglement cost is also larger in most cases. We prove irreversibility of entanglement under LOCC for a family of entangled states. This family is a generalization of the maximally correlated states for which we also give an analytic expression for the distillable entanglement, the relative entropy of entanglement, the distillable secret key and the quantum discord.

Strong superadditivity and monogamy of the Renyi measure of entanglement

Employing the quantum Rényi $α$-entropies as a measure of entanglement, we numerically find the violation of the strong superadditivity inequality for a system composed of four qubits and $α>1$. This violation gets smaller as $α\rightarrow 1$ and vanishes for $α=1$ when the measure corresponds to the Entanglement of Formation (EoF). We show that the Rényi measure aways satisfies the standard monogamy of entanglement for $α= 2$, and only violates a high order monogamy inequality, in the rare cases in which the strong superadditivity is also violated. The sates numerically found where the violation occurs have special symmetries where both inequalities are equivalent. We also show that every measure satisfing monogamy for high dimensional systems also satisfies the strong superadditivity inequality. For the case of Rényi measure, we provide strong numerical evidences that these two properties are equivalent.

Complete State Reconstruction of a Two-Mode Gaussian State via Local Operations and Classical Communication

We propose a strictly local quantum tomography protocol for a bipartite system. We show that the joint density matrix of an arbitrary two-mode Gaussian state, entangled or not, is obtained via local operations and classical communication only. In contrast to previous proposals, simultaneous homodyne measurements (HM) on both modes are replaced by local homodyne detections and a set of local projective measurements.

Quantification of Continuous Variable Entanglement with only Two Types of Simple Measurements

Here we propose an experimental set-up in which it is possible to measure the entanglement of a two-mode Gaussian state, be it pure or mixed, using only simple linear optical devices. After a proper unitary manipulation of the two-mode Gaussian state only number and purity measurements of just one of the modes suffice to give us a complete and exact knowledge of the state's entanglement.

Physical properties of the Schur complement of local covariance matrices

General properties of global covariance matrices representing bipartite Gaussian states can be decomposed into properties of local covariance matrices and their Schur complements. We demonstrate that given a bipartite Gaussian state $ρ_{12}$ described by a $4\times 4$ covariance matrix \textbf{V}, the Schur complement of a local covariance submatrix $\textbf{V}_1$ of it can be interpreted as a new covariance matrix representing a Gaussian operator of party 1 conditioned to local parity measurements on party 2. The connection with a partial parity measurement over a bipartite quantum state and the determination of the reduced Wigner function is given and an operational process of parity measurement is developed. Generalization of this procedure to a $n$-partite Gaussian state is given and it is demonstrated that the $n-1$ system state conditioned to a partial parity projection is given by a covariance matrix such as its $2 \times 2$ block elements are Schur complements of special local matrices.

Minimal set of local measurements and classical communication for two-mode Gaussian state entanglement quantification

We develop the minimal requirements for the complete entanglement quantification of an arbitrary two-mode bipartite Gaussian state via local measurements and a classical communication channel. The minimal set of measurements is presented as a reconstruction protocol of local covariance matrices and no previous knowledge of the state is required but its Gaussian character. The protocol becomes very simple mostly when dealing with Gaussian states transformed to its standard form, since photocounting/intensity measurements define the whole set of entangled states. In addition, conditioned on some prior information, the protocol is also useful for a complete global state reconstruction.

Symmetry breaking effects upon bipartite and multipartite entanglement in the XY model

We analyze the bipartite and multipartite entanglement for the ground state of the one-dimensional XY model in a transverse magnetic field in the thermodynamical limit. We explicitly take into account the spontaneous symmetry breaking in order to explore the relation between entanglement and quantum phase transitions. As a result we show that while both bipartite and multipartite entanglement can be enhanced by spontaneous symmetry breaking deep into the ferromagnetic phase, only the latter is affected by it in the vicinity of the critical point. This result adds to the evidence that multipartite, and not bipartite, entanglement is the fundamental indicator of long range correlations in quantum phase transitions.
