Two infinite series of moduli spaces of rank 2 sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$

We describe new components of the Gieseker--Maruyama moduli scheme $\mathcal{M}(n)$ of semistable rank 2 sheaves $E$ on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with $c_1(E)=0$, $c_2(E)=n$ and $c_3(E)=0$ whose generic point corresponds to non locally free sheaves. We show that such components grow in number as $n$ grows, and discuss how they intersect the instanton component. As an application, we prove that $\mathcal{M}(2)$ is connected, and identify a connected subscheme of $\mathcal{M}(3)$ consisting of 7 irreducible components.

Moduli spaces of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane

We study the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. In particular, we prove that, for certain values of the topological invariants, the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves is an irreducible, nonsingular variety carrying a holomorphic pre-symplectic form.

Branes in the moduli space of framed instantons

In the physicist's language, a brane in a hyperkahler manifold is a submanifold which is either complex or lagrangian with respect to three Kahler structures of the ambient manifold. By considering the fixed loci of certain involutions, we describe branes in Nakajima quiver varieties of all possible types. We then focus on the moduli space of framed torsion free sheaves on the projective plane, showing how the involutions considered act on sheaves, and proving the existence of branes in some cases.

Vector bundles on projective varieties and representations of quivers

We present equivalences between certain categories of vector bundles on projective varieties, namely cokernel bundles, Steiner bundles, syzygy bundles, and monads, and full subcategories of representations of certain quivers. As an application, we provide decomposability criteria for such bundles.

New divisors in the boundary of the instanton moduli space

Let ${\mathcal I}(n)$ denote the moduli space of rank $2$ instanton bundles of charge $n$ on ${\mathbb P}^3$. We know from several authors that ${\mathcal I}(n)$ is an irreducible, nonsingular and affine variety of dimension $8n-3$. Since every rank $2$ instanton bundle on ${\mathbb P}^3$ is stable, we may regard ${\mathcal I}(n)$ as an open subset of the projective Gieseker--Maruyama moduli scheme ${\mathcal M}(n)$ of rank $2$ semistable torsion free sheaves $F$ on ${\mathbb P}^3$ with Chern classes $c_1=c_3=0$ and $c_2=n$, and consider the closure $\overline{{\mathcal I}(n)}$ of ${\mathcal I}(n)$ in ${\mathcal M}(n)$. We construct some of the irreducible components of dimension $8n-4$ of the boundary $\partial{\mathcal I}(n):=\overline{{\mathcal I}(n)}\setminus{\mathcal I}(n)$. These components generically lie in the smooth locus of ${\mathcal M}(n)$ and consist of rank $2$ torsion free instanton sheaves with singularities along rational curves.

p-Buchsbaum rank 2 bundles on the projective space

It has been proved by various authors that a normalized, 1-Buchsbaum rank 2 vector bundle on P3 is a nullcorrelation bundle, while a normalized, 2-Buchsbaum rank 2 vector bundle on P3 is an instanton bundle of charge 2. We find that the same is not true for 3-Buchsbaum rank 2 vector bundles on P3, and propose a conjecture regarding the classification of such objects.

Singular locus of instanton sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$

We prove that the singular locus of a rank 2 instanton sheaf $E$ on $\mathbb{P}^3$ which is not locally free has pure dimension 1. Moreover, we also show that the dual and double dual of $E$ are isomorphic locally free instanton sheaves, and that the sheaves $\mathcal{E}xt^1(E,\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^3)$ and $E^{\vee\vee}/E$ are rank $0$ instantons. We also provide explicit examples of instanton sheaves of rank $3$ and $4$ illustrating that all of these claims are false for higher rank instanton sheaves.

On the Singular Scheme of Split Foliations

We prove that the tangent sheaf of a codimension one locally free distribution splits as a sum of line bundles if and only if its singular scheme is arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. In addition, we show that a foliation by curves is given by an intersection of generically transversal holomorphic distributions of codimension one if and only if its singular scheme is arithmetically Buchsbaum. Finally, we establish that these foliations are determined by their singular schemes, and deduce that the Hilbert scheme of certain arithmetically Buchsbaum schemes of codimension $2$ is birational to a Grassmannian.

Moduli of autodual instanton bundles

We provide a description of the moduli space of framed autodual instanton bundles on projective space, focusing on the particular cases of symplectic and orthogonal instantons. Our description will use the generalized ADHM equations which define framed instanton sheaves.

Trihyperkahler reduction and instanton bundles on CP^3

A trisymplectic structure on a complex 2n-manifold is a triple of holomorphic symplectic forms such that any linear combination of these forms has constant rank 2n, n or 0, and degenerate forms in $Ω$ belong to a non-degenerate quadric hypersurface. We show that a trisymplectic manifold is equipped with a holomorphic 3-web and the Chern connection of this 3-web is holomorphic, torsion-free, and preserves the three symplectic forms. We construct a trisymplectic structure on the moduli of regular rational curves in the twistor space of a hyperkaehler manifold, and define a trisymplectic reduction of a trisymplectic manifold, which is a complexified form of a hyperkaehler reduction. We prove that the trisymplectic reduction in the space of regular rational curves on the twistor space of a hyperkaehler manifold M is compatible with the hyperkaehler reduction on M. As an application of these geometric ideas, we consider the ADHM construction of instantons and show that the moduli space of rank r, charge c framed instanton bundles on CP^3 is a smooth, connected, trisymplectic manifold of complex dimension 4rc. In particular, it follows that the moduli space of rank 2, charge c instanton bundles on CP^3 is a smooth complex manifold dimension 8c-3, thus settling a 30-year old conjecture.

Pure resolutions of vector bundles on complex projective spaces

We prove three results on pure resolutions of vector bundles on projective spaces. First, we show that there are simple vector bundles of rank n on Pn with arbitrary homological dimension. We then analyze the pure resolutions given by the sheafification of the Koszul complex of a certain algebra and by the sheafification of the minimal free resolution of a compressed Gorenstein Artinian graded algebra, proving that their syzygies are simple vector bundles. Our main tool is a result originally established by Brambilla, for which we give an alternative proof using representations of quivers.

Derived categories of functors and Fourier--Mukai transform for quiver sheaves

Let C be small category and A an arbitrary category. Consider the category C(A) whose objects are functors from C to A, and whose morphisms are natural transformations. Given a functor F : A --> B one obtains an induced functor F_C : C(A) --> C(B) . If A and B are abelian categories, we have that C(A) and C(B) are also abelian, and one has two functors R(F_C) : D(C(A)) --> D(C(B)) and (RF)_ C : C(D(A)) --> C(D (B)). The goals of this paper are: 1) to find a relationship between D (C(A)) and C(D(A)); 2) to relate the functors R(F_C) and (RF)_C. As an application, we prove a version of Mukai's Theorem for quiver sheaves.

ADHM construction of perverse instanton sheaves

We present a construction of framed torsion free instanton sheaves on a projective variety containing a fixed line which further generalizes the one on projective spaces. This is done by generalizing the so called ADHM variety. We show that the moduli space of such objects is a quasi projective variety, which is fine in the case of projective spaces. We also give an ADHM categorical description of perverse instanton sheaves in the general case, along with a hypercohomological characterization of these sheaves in the particular case of projective spaces.

Monad constructions of omalous bundles

We consider a particular class of holomorphic vector bundles relevant for supersymmetric string theory, called \emph{omalous}, over nonsingular projective varieties. We use monads to construct examples of such bundles over 3-fold hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$, complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds in $\mathbb{P}^{k}$, blow-ups of $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ at $n$ distinct points, and products $\mathbb{P}^{m}\times\mathbb{P}^{n}$.

Moduli spaces of framed instanton bundles on CP^3 and twistor sections of moduli spaces of instantons on C^2

We show that the moduli space $M$ of holomorphic vector bundles on $CP^3$ that are trivial along a line is isomorphic (as a complex manifold) to a subvariety in the moduli of rational curves of the twistor space of the moduli space of framed instantons on $\R^4$, called the space of twistor sections. We then use this characterization to prove that $M$ is equipped with a torsion-free affine connection with holonomy in $Sp(2n,\C)$.

The ADHM Variety and Perverse Coherent Sheaves

We study the full set of solutions to the ADHM equation as an affine algebraic set, the ADHM variety. We gather the points of the ADHM variety into subvarieties according to the dimension of the stabilizing subspace. We compute dimension, and analyze singularity and reducibility of all of these varieties. We also connect representations of the ADHM quiver to coherent perverse sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ in the sense of Kashiwara.
