Some Isoperimetric Inequalities and Eigenvalue Estimates in Weighted Manifolds

In this paper we prove general inequalities involving the weighted mean curvature of compact submanifolds immersed in weighted manifolds. As a consequence we obtain a relative linear isoperimetric inequality for such submanifolds. We also prove an extrinsic upper bound to the first non zero eigenvalue of the drift Laplacian on closed submanifolds of weighted manifolds.

The non-parabolicity of infinite volume ends

Let $M^m$, with $m\geq 3$, be an $m$-dimensional complete noncompact manifold isometrically immersed in a Hadamard manifold $\bar M$. Assume that the mean curvature vector has finite $L^p$-norm, for some $2\leq p\leq m$. We prove that each end of $M$ must either have finite volume or be non-parabolic.

Stability Properties of Rotational Catenoids in the Heisenberg Groups

In this paper, we determine the maximally stable, rotationally invariant domains on the catenoids $\cC_a$ (minimal surfaces invariant by rotations) in the Heisenberg group with a left-invariant metric. We show that these catenoids have Morse index at least 3 and we bound the index from above in terms of the parameter $a$. We also show that the index of $\cC_a$ tends to infinity with $a$. Finally, we study the rotationally symmetric stable domains on the higher dimensional catenoids.

L^2 Harmonic 1-forms on submanifolds with finite total curvature

Let $x:M^m\to \bar M$, with $m\geq 3$, be an isometric immersion of a complete noncompact manifold $M$ in a complete simply-connected manifold $\bar M$ with sectional curvature satisfying $-c^2\leq K_{\bar M}\leq 0$, for some constant $c$. Assume that the immersion has finite total curvature. If $c\neq 0$, assume further that the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of $M$ is bounded from below by a suitable constant. We prove that the space of the $L^2$ harmonic 1-forms on $M$ has finite dimension. Moreover there exists a constant $\La>0$, explicitly computed, such that if the total curvature is bounded from above by $\La$ then there is no nontrivial $L^2$-harmonic 1-forms on $M$.

Eigenvalue estimates for hypersurfaces in $H^m \times R$ and applications

In this paper, we give a lower bound for the spectrum of the Laplacian on minimal hypersurfaces immersed into $H^m \times R$. As an application, in dimension 2, we prove that a complete minimal surface with finite total extrinsic curvature has finite index. On the other hand, for stable, minimal surfaces in $H^3$ or in $H^2 \times \R$, we give an upper bound on the infimum of the spectrum of the Laplacian and on the volume growth.

Convexity in locally conformally flat manifolds with boundary

Given a closed subset $\La$ of the open unit ball $B_1\subset \real^n$, $n \geq 3$, we will consider a complete Riemannian metric $g$ on $\bar{B_1} \setminus \La$ of constant scalar curvature equal to $n(n-1)$ and conformally related to the Euclidean metric. In this paper we prove that every closed Euclidean ball $\bar{B} \subset B_1\setminus \La$ is convex with respect to the metric $g$, assuming the mean curvature of the boundary $\partial B_1$ is nonnegative with respect to the inward normal.
