Monotonicity of functionals of random polytopes

The convex hull $P_{n}$ of a Gaussian sample $X_{1},...,X_{n}$ in $R^{d}$ is a Gaussian polytope. We prove that the expected number of facets $E f_{d-1} (P_n)$ is monotonically increasing in $n$. Furthermore we prove this for random polytopes generated by uniformly distributed points in a $d$-dimensional ball.

Beyond the Efron-Buchta identities: distributional results for Poisson polytopes

Let $Π$ be a random polytope defined as the convex hull of the points of a Poisson point process. Identities involving the moment generating function of the measure of $Π$, the number of vertices of $Π$ and the number of non-vertices of $Π$ are proven. Equivalently, identities for higher moments of the mentioned random variables are given. This generalizes analogous identities for functionals of convex hulls of i.i.d points by Efron and Buchta.

Asymptotic shape of small cells

A stationary Poisson line tessellation is considered whose directional distribution is concentrated on two different atoms with some positive weights. The shape of the typical cell of such a tessellation is studied when its area or its perimeter tends to zero. In contrast to known results where the area or the perimeter tends to infinity, it is shown that the asymptotic shape of cells having small area is degenerate. Again in contrast to the case of large cells, the asymptotic shape of cells with small perimeter is not uniquely determined. The results are accompanied by a large scale simulation study.
