Information geometry on groupoids: the case of singular metrics

We use the general setting for contrast (potential) functions in statistical and information geometry provided by Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids. The contrast functions are defined on Lie groupoids and give rise to two-forms and three-forms on the corresponding Lie algebroid. We study the case when the two-form is degenerate and show how in sufficiently regular cases one reduces it to a pseudometric structures. Transversal Levi-Civita connections for Riemannian foliations are generalized to the Lie groupoid/Lie algebroid case.

Geometry of quantum dynamics in infinite dimension

We develop a geometric approach to quantum mechanics based on the concept of the Tulczyjew triple. Our approach is genuinely infinite-dimensional and including a Lagrangian formalism in which self-adjoint (Schroedinger) operators are obtained as Lagrangian submanifolds associated with the Lagrangian. As a byproduct we obtain also results concerning coadjoint orbits of the unitary group in infinite dimension, embedding of the Hilbert projective space of pure states in the unitary group, and an approach to self-adjoint extensions of symmetric relations.

Resonances and poles in isoscattering microwave networks and graphs

Can one hear the shape of a graph? This is a modification of the famous question of Mark Kac "Can one hear the shape of a drum?" which can be asked in the case of scattering systems such as quantum graphs and microwave networks. It addresses an important mathematical problem whether scattering properties of such systems are uniquely connected to their shapes? Recent experimental results based on a characteristics of graphs such as the cumulative phase of the determinant of the scattering matrices indicate a negative answer to this question (O. Hul, M. Lawniczak, S. Bauch, A. Sawicki, M. Kus, L. Sirko, Phys. Rev. Lett 109, 040402 (2012).). In this paper we consider important local characteristics of graphs such as structures of resonances and poles of the determinant of the scattering matrices. Using these characteristics we study experimentally and theoretically properties of graphs and directly confirm that the pair of graphs considered in the cited paper is isoscattering. The experimental results are compared to the theoretical ones for a broad frequency range from 0.01 to 3 GHz. In the numerical calculations of the resonances of the graphs absorption present in the experimental networks is taken into account.

Extremal spacings between eigenphases of random unitary matrices and their tensor products

Extremal spacings between eigenvalues of random unitary matrices of size N pertaining to circular ensembles are investigated. Explicit probability distributions for the minimal spacing for various ensembles are derived for N = 4. We study ensembles of tensor product of k random unitary matrices of size n which describe independent evolution of a composite quantum system consisting of k subsystems. In the asymptotic case, as the total dimension N = n^k becomes large, the nearest neighbor distribution P(s) becomes Poissonian, but statistics of extreme spacings P(s_min) and P(s_max) reveal certain deviations from the Poissonian behavior.

Unitary quantum gates, perfect entanglers and unistochastic maps

Non-local properties of ensembles of quantum gates induced by the Haar measure on the unitary group are investigated. We analyze the entropy of entanglement of a unitary matrix U equal to the Shannon entropy of the vector of singular values of the reshuffled matrix. Averaging the entropy over the Haar measure on U(N^2) we find its asymptotic behaviour. For two--qubit quantum gates we derive the induced probability distribution of the interaction content and show that the relative volume of the set of perfect entanglers reads 8/3 π\approx 0.85. We establish explicit conditions under which a given one-qubit bistochastic map is unistochastic, so it can be obtained by partial trace over a one--qubit environment initially prepared in the maximally mixed state.

Tensor Products of Random Unitary Matrices

Tensor products of M random unitary matrices of size N from the circular unitary ensemble are investigated. We show that the spectral statistics of the tensor product of random matrices becomes Poissonian if M=2, N become large or M become large and N=2.

Segre maps and entanglement for multipartite systems of indistinguishable particles

We elaborate the concept of entanglement for multipartite system with bosonic and fermionic constituents and its generalization to systems with arbitrary parastatistics. The entanglement is characterized in terms of generalized Segre maps, supplementing thus an algebraic approach to the problem by a more geometric point of view.

Entanglement for multipartite systems of indistinguishable particles

We analyze the concept of entanglement for multipartite system with bosonic and fermionic constituents and its generalization to systems with arbitrary parastatistics. We use the representation theory of symmetry groups to formulate a unified approach to this problem in terms of simple tensors with appropriate symmetry. For an arbitrary parastatistics, we define the S-rank generalizing the notion of the Schmidt rank. The S-rank, defined for all types of tensors, serves for distinguishing entanglement of pure states. In addition, for Bose and Fermi statistics, we construct an analog of the Jamiolkowski isomorphism.

Universal nonlinear entanglement witnesses

We give a universal recipe for constructing nonlinear entanglement witnesses able to detect non-classical correlations in arbitrary systems of distinguishable and/or identical particles for an arbitrary number of constituents. The constructed witnesses are expressed in terms of expectation values of observables. As such they are, at least in principle, measurable in experiments

Wigner's Theorem and geometry of extreme positive maps

We consider transformation maps on the space of states which are symmetries in the sense of Wigner. Due to the convex nature of the space of states, the set of these maps has a convex structure. We investigate the possibility of a complete characterization of extreme maps of this convex body, to be able to contribute to the classification of positive maps. Our study provides a variant of Wigner's theorem originally proved for ray transformations in Hilbert spaces.

Global entangling properties of the coupled kicked tops

We study global entangling properties of the system of coupled kicked tops testing various hypotheses and predictions concerning entanglement in quantum chaotic systems. In order to analyze the averaged initial entanglement production rate and the averaged asymptotic entanglement different ensembles of initial product states are evolved. Two different ensembles with natural probability distribution are considered: product states of independent spin-coherent states and product states of arbitrary states. It appears that the choice of either of these ensembles results in significantly different averaged entanglement behavior. We investigate also a relation between the averaged asymptotic entanglement and the mean entanglement of the eigenvectors of an evolution operator. Lower bound on the averaged asymptotic entanglement is derived, expressed in terms of the eigenvector entanglement.

Separability, entanglement and full families of commuting normal matrices

We reduce the question whether a given quantum mixed state is separable or entangled to the problem of existence of a certain full family of commuting normal matrices whose matrix elements are partially determined by components of the pure states constituting a decomposition of the considered mixture. The method reproduces many known entanglement and/or separability criteria, and provides yet another geometrical characterization of mixed separable states.

On the relation between states and maps in infinite dimensions

Relations between states and maps, which are known for quantum systems in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, are formulated rigorously in geometrical terms with no use of coordinate (matrix) interpretation. In a tensor product realization they are represented simply by a permutation of factors. This leads to natural generalizations for infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and a simple proof of a generalized Choi Theorem. The natural framework is based on spaces of Hilbert-Schmidt operators $\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1)$ and the corresponding tensor products $\mathcal{H}_1\otimes\mathcal{H}_2^*$ of Hilbert spaces. It is proved that the corresponding isomorphisms cannot be naturally extended to compact (or bounded) operators, nor reduced to the trace-class operators. On the other hand, it is proven that there is a natural continuous map $\mathcal{C}:\mathcal{L}_1(\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1))\to \mathcal{L}_\infty(\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H}_2),\mathcal{L}_1(\mathcal{H}_1))$ from trace-class operators on $\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1)$ (with the nuclear norm) into compact operators mapping the space of all bounded operators on $\mathcal{H}_2$ into trace class operators on $\mathcal{H}_1$ (with the operator-norm). Also in the infinite-dimensional context, the Schmidt measure of entanglement and multipartite generalizations of state-maps relations are considered in the paper.

Level dynamics and the ten-fold way

We investigate the parameter dynamics of eigenvalues of Hamiltonians ('level dynamics') defined on symmetric spaces relevant for condensed matter and particle physics. In particular we: 1) identify appropriate reduced manifold on which the motion takes place, 2) identify the correct Poisson structure ensuring the Hamiltonian character of the reduced dynamics, 3) determine the canonical measure on the reduced space, 4) calculate the resulting eigenvalue density.

On determination of statistical properties of spectra from parametric level dynamics

We analyze an approach aiming at determining statistical properties of spectra of time-periodic quantum chaotic system based on the parameter dynamics of their quasienergies. In particular we show that application of the methods of statistical physics, proposed previously in the literature, taking into account appropriate integrals of motion of the parametric dynamics is fully justified, even if the used integrals of motion do not determine the invariant manifold in a unique way. The indetermination of the manifold is removed by applying Dirac's theory of constrained Hamiltonian systems and imposing appropriate primary, first-class constraints and a gauge transformation generated by them in the standard way. The obtained results close the gap in the whole reasoning aiming at understanding statistical properties of spectra in terms of parametric dynamics.

Evaluable multipartite entanglement measures: are multipartite concurrences entanglement monotones?

We discuss the monotonicity under local operations and classical communication (LOCC) of systematically constructed quantities aiming at quantification of entanglement properties of multipartite quantum systems. The so-called generalized multipartite concurrences can qualify as legitimate entanglement measures if they are monotonous under LOCC. In the paper we give a necessary and sufficient criterion for their monotonicity.

Symmetries, group actions, and entanglement

We address several problems concerning the geometry of the space of Hermitian operators on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space, in particular the geometry of the space of density states and canonical group actions on it. For quantum composite systems we discuss and give examples of measures of entanglement.
