Einstein-Cartan Cosmologies

Cosmologies based on General Relativity encompassing an anti-symmetric connection (torsion) can display nice desirable features as the absence of the initial singularity and the possibility of inflation in the early stage of the universe. After briefly reviewing the standard approach to the cosmology with torsion, we generalize it to demonstrate that several theories of torsion gravity are possible using different choices of the diffeomorphic invariants in the Lagrangians. As a result, distinct cosmologies emerge. In all of them it is possible that the universe avoids the initial singularity and passes through an initial accelerated expansion. Differences between these theories are highlighted.

Neutral and Charged Higgs boson phenomenology at the LHeC and FCC-eh

We have analyzed the prospects of observing the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson ($h_1$) via decays into $b \bar b$ pairs in the neutral and charged current production processes $e^- q \to e^- h_1 q$ and $e^- q\to ν_e h_1 q'$, respectively, at the planneded large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), with an $e^-$ beam energy of 60 GeV and a $p$ beam energy of 7 TeV. We also focus on observing a relatively light charged Higgs boson ($h^{-}$) via its production mode $e^- b \to ν_e h^{-} b$ followed by the decays $h^{-} \to s \bar c + s \bar u$ at the upcoming Future Circular Collider in hadron-electron mode (FCC-eh) with $\sqrt s \approx 3.5$ TeV. We have performed our analysis in the framework of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) wherein the intermediate Higgs boson ($h_2$) is Standard Model (SM)-like. We have considered constraints from Dark Matter (DM), superparticle and the Higgs boson data. In both analyses, we have carried out signal and background computations with selections optimized to the model at hand and found that in both cases it is possible to get large significances for low mass Higgs bosons.

New indefinite integrals of confluent Heun functions

We obtain some new formulae to compute the first derivative of confluent and biconfluent Heun functions under the minimal assumption of fixing only one parameter. These results together with the Lagrangian formulation of a general homogeneous linear ordinary differential equation allow to construct several new indefinite integrals for the confluent, biconfluent, doubly confluent, and triconfluent Heun functions.

New indefinite integrals of Heun functions

We present a conspicuous number of indefinite integrals involving Heun functions and their products obtained by means of the Lagrangian formulation of a general homogeneous linear ordinary differential equation. As a by-product we also derive new indefinite integrals involving the Gauss hypergeometric function and products of hypergeometric functions with elliptic functions of the first kind. All integrals we obtained cannot be computed using Maple and Mathematica.

Electric fields at finite temperature

Partial differential equations for the electric potential at finite temperature, taking into account the thermal Euler-Heisenberg contribution to the electromagnetic Lagrangian are derived. This complete temperature dependence introduces quantum corrections to several well known equations such as the Thomas-Fermi and the Poisson-Boltzmann equation. Our unified approach allows at the same time to derive other similar equations which take into account the effect of the surrounding heat bath on electric fields. We vary our approach by considering a neutral plasma as well as the screening caused by electrons only. The effects of changing the statistics from Fermi-Dirac to the Tsallis statistics and including the presence of a magnetic field are also investigated. Some useful applications of the above formalism are presented.

Traveling Waves in the Euler-Heisenberg Electrodynamics

We examine the possibility of travelling wave solutions within the nonlinear Euler-Heisenberg electrodynamics. Since this theory resembles in its form the electrodynamics in matter, it is a priori not clear if there exist travelling wave solutions with a new dispersion relation for $ω(k)$ or if the Euler-Heisenberg theory stringently imposes $ω=k$ for any arbitrary ansatz $\mathbf{E}(ξ)$ and $\mathbf{B}(ξ)$ with $ξ\equiv \mathbf{k}\cdot\mathbf{r} -ωt$. We show that the latter scheme applies for the Euler-Heisenberg theory, but point out the possibility of new solutions with $ω\neq k$ if we go beyond the Euler-Heisenberg theory, allowing strong fields. In case of the Euler-Heisenberg theory the quantum mechanical effect of the travelling wave solutions remains in $\hbar$ corrections to the energy density and the Poynting vector.

Three Photon Entanglement from Ortho-Positronium Revisited

Entanglement of three photons from the decay of ortho-positronium is re-analyzed. We use the full three body phase space to write down the entangled states classified according to the spin directions of the ortho-positronium. Even in the case when the spin is perpendicular to the decay plane, we find non-negligible phases entering the entangled state. This has not been noticed before. We advocate a fixed quantization axis of the spin for the sake of generality. A brief discussion of a three dimensional formalism for photons, including correlations, versus a two dimensional one is given.

Light neutral CP-even Higgs boson within Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard model (NMSSM) at the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC)

We analyze the prospects of observing the light CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($h_1$) in their decays into $b \bar b$ quarks, in the neutral and charged current production processes $e h_1 q$ and $νh_1 q$ at the upcoming LHeC, with $\sqrt s \approx 1.296$ TeV. Assuming that the intermediate Higgs boson ($h_2$) is Standard Model (SM)-like, we study the Higgs production within the framework of NMSSM. We consider the constraints from Dark-matter, Sparticle masses, and the Higgs boson data. The signal in our analysis can be classified as three jets, with electron (missing energy)coming from the neutral (charged) current interaction. We demand that the number of b-tagged jets in the central rapidity region be greater or equal to two. The remaining jet is tagged in the forward regions. With this forward jet and two $b$-tagged jets in the central region, we reconstructed three jets invariant masses. Applying some lower limits on these invariant masses turns out to be an essential criterion to enhance the signal--to--background rates, with slightly different sets of kinematical selections in the two different channels. We consider almost all reducible and irreducible SM background processes. We find that the non-SM like Higgs boson, $h_1$, would be accessible in some of the NMSSM benchmark points, at approximately 0.4$σ$ (2.5$σ$) level in the $e$+3j channel up to Higgs boson masses of 75 GeV and in the $E\!\!\!\!/_T$+3j channel could be discovered with 1.7$σ$ (2.4$σ$) level up to Higgs boson masses of 88 GeV with 100 fb$^{-1}$ of data in a simple cut-based (with optimization) selection. With ten times more data accumulation at the end of the LHeC run and using optimization, one can have 5$σ$ discovery in the electron (missing energy) channel up to 85 (more than 90) GeV.

Semi-commuting and commuting operators for the Heun family

We derive the most general families of differential operators of first and second degree semi-commuting with the differential operators of the Heun class. Among these families we classify all those families commuting with the Heun class. In particular, we discover that a certain generalized Heun equation commutes with the Heun differential operator allowing us to construct the general solution to a complicated fourth order linear differential equation with variable coefficients which Maple 16 cannot solve.

The problem of embedded eigenvalues for the Dirac equation in the Schwarzschild black hole metric

We use the Dirac equation in a fixed black hole background and different independent techniques to demonstrate the absence of fermionic bound states around a Schwarzschild black hole. In particular, we show that no embedded eigenvalues exist which have been claimed for the case when the energy is less than the particle's mass. We explicitly prove that the claims regarding the embedded eigenvalues can be traced back to an oversimplified approximation in the calculation. We conclude that no bound states exist regardless the value of the mass.

Newtonian Cosmology with a Quantum Bounce

It has been known for some time that the cosmological Friedmann equation deduced from General Relativity can be also obtained within the Newtonian framework under certain assumptions. We use this result together with quantum corrections to the Newtonian potentials to derive a set a of quantum corrected Friedmann equations. We examine the behavior of the solutions of these modified cosmological equations paying special attention to the sign of the quantum corrections. We find different quantum effects crucially depending on this sign. One such a solution displays a qualitative resemblance to other quantum models like Loop Quantum Gravity or non-commutative geometry.

Potentials of the Heun class

We review different methods of generating potentials such that the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation (ODSE) can be transformed into the hypergeometric equation. We compare our results with previous studies, and complement the subject with new findings. Our main result is to derive new classes of potentials such that the ODSE can be transformed into the Heun equation and its confluent cases. The generalized Heun equation is also considered.

A non commutative model for a mini black hole

We analyze the static and spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions of Einstein field equations inspired by the non commutative geometry. In the framework of the non commutative geometry this solution is interpreted as a mini black hole which has the Schwarzschild geometry outside the event horizon, but whose standard central singularity is replaced by a self-gravitating droplet. The energy-momentum tensor of the droplet is of the anisotropic fluid obeying a nonlocal equation of state. The radius of the droplet is finite and the pressure, which gives rise to the hydrostatic equilibrium, is positive definite in the interior.

Extracting Information from the Gravitational Redshift of Compact Rotating Objects

When rotation is not taken into account, the measurement of the Gravitational Redshift can provide unique information about the compactness ($M/R$) of the star. Rotation alters the gravitational redshift rendering thereby a unique determination of the compactness parameter impossible. Nevertheless, it can be shown that by using some theoretical input, useful information on, say, the radii of compact rotating objects can still be extracted. Moreover, by measuring the gravitational redshift one can infer the maximum angular velocity of the object. As it is well known, the minimum observed periods of rotation are found in millisecond pulsars. Here we show that millisecond periods are actually a semi-theoretical limit that can be found by General Relativistic arguments corresponding to the maximum angular velocity. We apply our method to compact objects such as pulsars, white dwarfs and neutron stars.

On the bound states of the Dirac equation in the extreme Kerr metric

We study the eigenvalues of the angular equation arising after the separation of the Dirac equation in the extreme Kerr metric. To this purpose a self-adjoint holomorphic operator family associated to this eigenvalue problem is considered. We show that the eigenvalues satisfy a first order nonlinear differential equation with respect to the black hole mass and we solve it. Finally, we prove that there exist no bound states for the Dirac equation in the aforementioned metric.

Astrophysical Configurations with Background Cosmology: Probing Dark Energy at Astrophysical Scales

We explore the effects of a positive cosmological constant on astrophysical and cosmological configurations described by a polytropic equation of state. We derive the conditions for equilibrium and stability of such configurations and consider some astrophysical examples where our analysis may be relevant. We show that in the presence of the cosmological constant the isothermal sphere is not a viable astrophysical model since the density in this model does not go asymptotically to zero. The cosmological constant implies that, for polytropic index smaller than five, the central density has to exceed a certain minimal value in terms of the vacuum density in order to guarantee the existence of a finite size object. We examine such configurations together with effects of $Λ$ in other exotic possibilities, such as neutrino and boson stars, and we compare our results to N-body simulations. The astrophysical properties and configurations found in this article are specific features resulting from the existence of a dark energy component. Hence, if found in nature would be an independent probe of a cosmological constant, complementary to other observations.
