$\mathbf{\mu}$-Hybrid Inflation and Metastable Cosmic Strings in $\mathbf{SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}}$

We develop a scenario based on $\mu$-hybrid inflation within the framework of a left-right symmetric model defined by the gauge symmetry group $G_{3221} = SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}$. This model features a two-stage symmetry breaking to the Standard Model, with inflation occurring between the two stages, resulting in the dilution of primordial monopoles produced during the symmetry breaking of $SU(2)_R$ to $U(1)_R$. The second symmetry breaking gives rise to a network of metastable cosmic strings, which produces gravitational waves that can be observed by current and future experiments. A crucial aspect of this model is the inclusion of $R$-symmetry breaking terms in the superpotential, which helps explain the origin of the first symmetry breaking scale and ensures experimentally viable inflation with a minimal (canonical) K\"ahler potential. We show that the model successfully implements consistent inflation, leptogenesis, metastable cosmic strings, and gravitino dark matter, all in agreement with the observational data and constraints on reheating temperature from leptogenesis and gravitino overproduction bounds. We explore the potential embedding of $G_{3221}$ within the gauge symmetry $G_{422} = SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$, and provide a brief discussion on the proton decay predictions, which can be tested by the upcoming experiments.

Inflation, Proton Decay and Gravitational Waves from Metastable Strings in $SU(4)_C \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R$ Model

We present a realistic supersymmetric $\mu$-hybrid inflation model within the framework of $SU(4)_C \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R$ gauge symmetry, wherein the symmetry breaking $SU(4)_C \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R\rightarrow SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_{B-L}\times U(1)_R$ occurs before observable inflation, effectively eliminating topologically stable primordial monopoles. Subsequent breaking of $U(1)_{B-L} \times U(1)_R \rightarrow U(1)_Y$ after inflation leads to the formation of superheavy metastable cosmic strings (CSs), capable of producing a stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) consistent with the recent PTA data. Moreover, the scalar spectral index $n_s$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ align with Planck 2018 observations. A consistent scenario for reheating and non-thermal leptogenesis is employed to explain the observed matter content of the universe. Finally, the embedding of $G_{421}$ into the Pati-Salam gauge symmetry $G_{422}$ is briefly discussed, predicting potentially observable proton decay rates detectable at facilities such as Hyper Kamiokande and DUNE.

The Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background from Primordial Black Holes in R-Symmetric $SU(5)$ Inflation

This study explores the realization of nonminimally coupled Higgs inflation in the context of no-scale supergravity, investigates the formation of primordial black holes, and examines the potential for observable proton decay within the framework of the R-symmetric $SU(5)$ model. For inflation, both single and multifield scenarios are investigated. The prediction of the single-field model for the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r$, is approximately $10^{-3}$, and the scalar spectral index falls within Plank's 1$\sigma$ range. The running of the scalar spectral index, $-{dn_{s}}/{d\ln{k}}$, is approximately $10^{-4}$. A realistic scenario of reheating and non-thermal leptogenesis is employed with reheat temperature $T_r\sim10^9$ GeV. In the multifield case, we mainly focus on Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) and Gravitational Waves (GWs). In this inflationary framework, we demonstrate how a suitable choice of parameters can result in an enhanced scalar power spectrum, leading to the production of primordial black holes (PBHs) capable of fully accounting for dark matter. We also show that this scenario leads to Scalar Induced Gravitational Waves (SIGW) which can be detected in current and future GW detectors. We explore different proton decay channels to look for observable predictions for the next-generation proton decay experiments Hyper-K and DUNE consistent with gauge coupling unification and cosmological bounds.

Supersymmetric hybrid inflation and current-carrying metastable cosmic strings in $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R$

We construct a realistic supersymmetric model for superheavy metastable cosmic strings (CSs) that can be investigated in the current pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments. It is based on shifted $\mu$-hybrid inflation in which the symmetry breaking $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R\rightarrow SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_{B-L}\times U(1)_R$ proceeds along an inflationary trajectory such that the topologically unstable primordial monopoles are inflated away. {{The breaking of $U(1)_{B-L} \times U(1)_R \rightarrow U(1)_Y$ after inflation ends yields the superheavy metastable CSs carrying the right handed neutrino zero modes that generate the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB), which we show is consistent with the current PTA data set and the LIGO O3 run}}. The scalar spectral index $n_s$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ are compatible with the Planck 2018 and Atacama Cosmology Telescope measurements. Both reheating and leptogenesis are briefly discussed.

Observable proton decay and gauge coupling unification in the improved missing doublet SU(5) model

We investigate the possibility of observable proton decay within the improved missing doublet model (IMDM75), which utilizes a Higgs in 75 representation for $SU(5)$ gauge symmetry breaking. The realization of observable proton decay in IMDM75 is made feasible primarily due to chirality nonflipping color-triplet mediation, while chirality flipping mediation is adequately suppressed. Our predictions suggest a range of proton lifetimes between $10^{34}-10^{36}$ yr, which can be observed in upcoming experiments such as Hyper-K and DUNE, for a corresponding range of color-triplet mass parameter $M_T$ in the order of $10^{11}-10^{14}$GeV. IMDM75 is shown to offer unique predictions for branching ratios when compared to other grand unified theory models. Finally, a realization of successful gauge coupling unification is achieved, even with the presence of particles at intermediate scales.

Realistic Inflation in No-Scale $U(1)_R$ Symmetric Flipped $SU(5)$

We have realized non-minimal Higgs inflation and standard hybrid inflation in the supersymmetric flipped $SU(5)$ model with $U(1)_R$ symmetry using the no-scale form of the K\"{a}hler potential. In non-minimal Higgs inflation the waterfall Higgs field plays the role of inflaton, and in standard hybrid inflation the gauge singlet field $S$ is employed as an inflaton. The predictions of both models are in good agreement with the Planck 2018 data. For numerical calculations we have fixed the gauge symmetry breaking scale, $M$, around $2\times 10^{16}$ GeV. In both models the inflaton field values are constrained below $m_P$. The tensor to scalar ratio $r$ in non-minimal inflation is of the order of $10^{-3}$ and for standard hybrid inflation $r$ is tiny, of order $10^{-15} - 10^{-4}$. The scalar spectral index in both cases lie within the Planck 1-$\sigma$ bounds, and the running of the scalar spectral index lies in the range, $-dn_s/d\ln k \sim 6\times 10^{-4}$ for non-minimal model and $10^{-9} - 10^{-3}$ for the standard hybrid model. A realistic scenario of reheating and non-thermal leptogenesis is employed with reheat temperature $T_r \sim 10^9$ GeV for non-minimal model and $10^{6} - 10^{10}$~GeV for standard hybrid model. The $R$-symmetry plays a vital role in forbidding rapid proton decay, but at the same time it also suppresses terms responsible for generating right handed neutrino masses. A realistic scenario of right handed neutrino masses is obtained by considering effective $R$ symmetry breaking at the nonrenormalizable level with adequate suppression of rapid proton decay.

Observable Proton Decay in Flipped SU(5)

We explore proton decay in a class of realistic supersymmetric flipped $SU(5)$ models supplemented by a $U(1)_R$ symmetry which plays an essential role in implementing hybrid inflation. Two distinct neutrino mass models, based on inverse seesaw and type I seesaw, are identified, with the latter arising from the breaking of $U(1)_R$ by nonrenormalizable superpotential terms. Depending on the neutrino mass model an appropriate set of intermediate scale color triplets from the Higgs superfields play a key role in proton decay channels that include $p \rightarrow (e^{+},\mu^+)\, \pi^0$, $p \rightarrow ( e^+,\mu^{+})\, K^0 $, $p \rightarrow \overline{\nu}\, \pi^{+}$, and $p \rightarrow \overline{\nu}\, K^+ $. We identify regions of the parameter space that yield proton lifetime estimates which are testable at Hyper-Kamiokande and other next generation experiments. We discuss how gauge coupling unification in the presence of intermediate scale particles is realized, and a $Z_4$ symmetry is utilized to show how such intermediate scales can arise in flipped $SU(5)$. Finally, we compare our predictions for proton decay with previous work based on $SU(5)$ and flipped $SU(5)$.
