Finite time singularities in the Landau equation with very hard potentials

We consider the inhomogeneous Landau equation with $γ\in (\sqrt{3},2]$ and construct smooth, strictly positive initial data that develop a finite time singularity. The $C^α$-norm of the distribution function blows up for every $α>0$, whereas its $L^{\infty}$-norm remains uniformly bounded. In self-similar variables, the solution becomes asymptotically hydrodynamic - the distribution function converges to a local Maxwellian, while the hydrodynamic fields develop an asymptotically self-similar implosion whose profile coincides with a smooth imploding profile of the compressible Euler equations. To our knowledge, this provides the first example of a collisional kinetic model which is globally well-posed in the homogeneous setting, but admits finite time singularities for inhomogeneous data.

Uniqueness for the Homogeneous Landau-Coulomb Equation in $L^{3/2}$

We prove the uniqueness of $H$-solutions to the homogeneous Landau-Coulomb equation satisfying $\langle v \rangle^{k_0} f \in C([0, T]; L^{3/2}(\mathbb{R}^3))$ and $\langle v \rangle^{-3/2} \nabla_v ((\langle v \rangle^{k_0} f)^{3/4}) \in L^2((0, T) \times \mathbb{R}^3)$ for any $k_0 \geq 5$. In particular, this shows that the solutions constructed in~\cite{GGL25} are unique. The present work thus completes the global well-posedness theory in the critical space $L^{3/2}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. Our proof is part of a broader effort to use the $\mathcal{M}$-operator technique developed in~\cite{AGS2025, AMSY2020} to establish the uniqueness of rough solutions to nonlinear kinetic equations. When applied to the space-homogeneous case, the $\mathbb{M}$-operator can be taken simply as a Bessel potential operator.

From the quantum Boltzmann operator to the quantum Landau operator

In this manuscript we derive the quantum Landau operator as the weak-coupling limit of the quantum Boltzmann operator (also known as the Uehling-Uhlenbeck operator). We consider both Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics. Our approach is inspired by the work by Benedetto and Pulvirenti, where the classical Landau operator was derived from the quantum Boltzmann operator. To capture the ternary term in the quantum Landau operator, we introduce a new two-parameter scaling that preserves the quantum effects in the limit. Furthermore, we provide an explicit rate of convergence that depends on the regularity of the interaction potential.

The fuzzy Landau equation: global well-posedness and Fisher information

We study a fuzzy variant of the inhomogeneous Landau equation and establish global-in-time existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions for moderately soft potentials. The spatial delocalization introduced in the collision operator not only enhances regularity and prevents singularity formation, but also reveals additional structural properties of the model. In particular, we show that several forms of the Fisher information decay monotonically or remain uniformly bounded in time.

The $\mathcal{M}$-Operator and Uniqueness of Nonlinear Kinetic Equations

We introduce an $\mathcal{M}$-operator approach to establish the uniqueness of continuous or bounded solutions for a broad class of Landau-type nonlinear kinetic equations. The specific $\mathcal{M}$-operator, originally developed in [3], acts as a negative fractional derivative in both spatial and velocity variables and interacts in a controllable manner with the kinetic transport operator. The novelty of this method is that it bypasses the need for bounds on the derivatives of the solution - an assumption typically required in uniqueness arguments for non-cutoff equations. As a result, the method enables working with solutions with low regularity.

Production of the Fisher information for the Landau-Coulomb equation with L1 initial data

We consider the Landau-Coulomb equation for initial data with bounded mass, finite numbers of moments, and entropy. We show the existence of a global weak solution that has bounded Fisher information for positive times. This solution is therefore a global strong solution away from the initial time. We propose an alternative approach, based on already existing estimates, to the study of the appearance of Fisher information recently performed by Ji in [12].

A blow-down mechanism for the Landau-Coulomb equation

We investigate the Landau-Coulomb equation and show an explicit blow-down mechanism for a family of initial data that are small-scale, supercritical perturbations of a Maxwellian function. We establish global well-posedness and show that the initial bump region will disappear in a time of order one. We prove that the function remains close to an explicit function during the blow-down. As a consequence, our result shows exponential decay in time of the solution towards equilibrium. The key ingredients of our proof are the explicit blow-down function and a novel two-scale linearization in appropriate time-dependent spaces that yields uniform estimates in the perturbation parameter.

Existence of smooth solutions to the Landau-Fermi-Dirac equation with Coulomb potential

In this paper, we prove global-in-time existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions to the homogeneous Landau-Fermi-Dirac equation with Coulomb potential. The initial conditions are nonnegative, bounded and integrable. We also show that any weak solution converges towards the steady state given by the Fermi-Dirac statistics. Furthermore, the convergence is algebraic, provided that the initial datum is close to the steady state in a suitable weighted Lebesgue norm.

Non-Local Porous Media Equations with Fractional Time Derivative

In this paper we investigate existence of solutions for the system: \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{l} D^α_tu=\textrm{div}(u \nabla p),\\ D^α_tp=-(-Δ)^{s}p+u^{2}, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} in $\mathbb{T}^3$ for $0< s \leq 1$, and $0< α\le 1$. The term $D^α_t u$ denotes the Caputo derivative, which models memory effects in time. The fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^{s}$ represents the Lévy diffusion. We prove global existence of nonnegative weak solutions that satisfy a variational inequality. The proof uses several approximations steps, including an implicit Euler time discretization. We show that the proposed discrete Caputo derivative satisfies several important properties, including positivity preserving, convexity and rigorous convergence towards the continuous Caputo derivative. Most importantly, we give a strong compactness criteria for piecewise constant functions, in the spirit of Aubin-Lions theorem, based on bounds of the discrete Caputo derivative.

Factorization for non-symmetric operators and exponential H-theorem

We present an abstract method for deriving decay estimates on the resolvents and semigroups of non-symmetric operators in Banach spaces in terms of estimates in another smaller reference Banach space. This applies to a class of operators writing as a regularizing part, plus a dissipative part. The core of the method is a high-order quantitative factorization argument on the resolvents and semigroups. We then apply this approach to the Fokker-Planck equation, to the kinetic Fokker- Planck equation in the torus, and to the linearized Boltzmann equation in the torus. We finally use this information on the linearized Boltzmann semi- group to study perturbative solutions for the nonlinear Boltzmann equation. We introduce a non-symmetric energy method to prove nonlinear stability in this context in $L^1_v L^\infty _x (1 + |v|^k)$, $k > 2$, with sharp rate of decay in time. As a consequence of these results we obtain the first constructive proof of exponential decay, with sharp rate, towards global equilibrium for the full nonlinear Boltzmann equation for hard spheres, conditionally to some smoothness and (polynomial) moment estimates. This improves the result in [32] where polynomial rates at any order were obtained, and solves the conjecture raised in [91, 29, 86] about the optimal decay rate of the relative entropy in the H-theorem.

Instability and bifurcation in a trend depending price formation model

A well-known model due to J.-M. Lasry and P.L. Lions that presents the evolution of prices in a market as the evolution of a free boundary in a diffusion equation is suggested to be modified in order to show instabilities for some values of the parameters. This loss of stability is associated to the appearance of new types of solutions, namely periodic solutions, due to a Hopf bifurcation and representing price oscillations, and traveling waves, that represent either inflationary or deflationary behavior.

The Wigner-Fokker-Planck equation: Stationary states and large-time behavior

We consider the linear Wigner-Fokker-Planck equation subject to confining potentials which are smooth perturbations of the harmonic oscillator potential. For a certain class of perturbations we prove that the equation admits a unique stationary solution in a weighted Sobolev space. A key ingredient of the proof is a new result on the existence of spectral gaps for Fokker-Planck type operators in certain weighted $L^2$-spaces. In addition we show that the steady state corresponds to a positive density matrix operator with unit trace and that the solutions of the time-dependent problem converge towards the steady state with an exponential rate.

Asymptotics for a free-boundary model in price formation

We study the asymptotics for large time of solutions to a one dimensional parabolic evolution equation with non-standard measure-valued right hand side, that involves derivatives of the solution computed at a free boundary point. The problem is a particular case of a mean-field free boundary model proposed by Lasry-Lions on price formation and dynamic equilibria. The main step in the proof is based on the fact that the free boundary disappears in the linearized problem, thus can be treated as a perturbation through semigroup theory. This requires a delicate choice for the function spaces since higher regularity is needed near the free boundary. We show global existence for solutions with initial data in a small neighborhood of any equilibrium point, and exponential decay towards a stationary state. Moreover, the family of equilibria of the equation is stable, as follows from center manifold theory.

On the blowing up of solutions to quantum hydrodynamic models on bounded domains

The blow-up in finite time for the solutions to the initial-boundary value problem associated to the multi-dimensional quantum hydrodynamic model in a bounded domain is proved. The model consists on conservation of mass equation and a momentum balance equation equivalent to a compressible Euler equations corrected by a dispersion term of the third order in the momentum balance. The proof is based on a-priori estimates for the energy functional for a new observable constructed with an auxiliary function, and it is shown that, under suitable boundary conditions and assumptions on the initial data, the solution blows up after a finite time.
