Revised logarithmic Sobolev inequalities of fractional order

In this short note we prove the logarithmic Sobolev inequality with derivatives of fractional order on $\mathbb{R}^n$ with an explicit expression for the constant. Namely, we show that for all $0 0$ we have the inequality \[ \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}|f(x)|^2 \log \left( \frac{|f(x)|^2}{\|f\|^{2}_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)}}\right)\,dx+\frac{n}{s}(1+\log a)\|f\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)}^{2}\leq C(n,s,a)\|(-Δ)^{s/2}f\|^{2}_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)} \] with an explicit $C(n,s,a)$ depending on $a$, the order $s$, and the dimension $n$, and investigate the behaviour of $C(n,s,a)$ for large $n$. Notably, for large $n$ and when $s=1$, the constant $C(n,1,a)$ is asymptotically the same as the sharp constant of Lieb and Loss. Moreover, we prove a similar type inequality for functions $f \in L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)\cap W^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ whenever $1<p<n$ and $p<q\leq \frac{p(n-1)}{n-p}$.

Degenerate Schrödinger equations with irregular potentials

In this work we investigate a class of degenerate Schrödinger equations associated to degenerate elliptic operators with irregular potentials on $\Ran$ by introducing a suitable Hörmander metric $g$ and a $g$-weight $m$. We establish the well-posedness for the corresponding degenerate Schrödinger and degenerate parabolic equations. When the subelliticity is available on the degenerate elliptic operator we deduce spectral properties for a class of degenerate Hamiltonians. We also study the $L^p$ mapping properties for operators with symbols in the $S(m^{-β},g)$ classes in the spirit of classical Fefferman's $L^p$-bounds for the $(ρ, δ)$ calculus. Finally, within our $S(m,g)$-classes, sharp $L^p$-estimates and Schatten properties for Schrödinger operators for Hörmander sums of squares are also investigated.

A Light-weight CNN Model for Efficient Parkinson's Disease Diagnostics

In recent years, deep learning methods have achieved great success in various fields due to their strong performance in practical applications. In this paper, we present a light-weight neural network for Parkinson's disease diagnostics, in which a series of hand-drawn data are collected to distinguish Parkinson's disease patients from healthy control subjects. The proposed model consists of a convolution neural network (CNN) cascading to long-short-term memory (LSTM) to adapt the characteristics of collected time-series signals. To make full use of their advantages, a multilayered LSTM model is firstly used to enrich features which are then concatenated with raw data and fed into a shallow one-dimensional (1D) CNN model for efficient classification. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves a high-quality diagnostic result over multiple evaluation metrics with much fewer parameters and operations, outperforming conventional methods such as support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), lightgbm (LGB) and CNN-based methods.

Heat and wave type equations with non-local operators, II. Hilbert spaces and graded Lie groups

We study heat and wave type equations on a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ by considering non-local operators in time with any positive densely defined linear operator with discrete spectrum. We show the explicit representation of the solution and analyse the time-decay rate in a scale of suitable Sobolev space. We perform similar analysis on multi-term heat and multi-wave type equations. The main tool here is the Fourier analysis which can be developed in a separable Hilbert space based on the linear operator involved. As an application, the same Cauchy problems are considered and analysed in the setting of a graded Lie group. In this case our analysis relies on the group Fourier analysis. An extra ingredient in this framework allows, in the case of heat type equations, to establish $L^p$-$L^q$ estimates for $1\leqslant p\leqslant 2\leqslant q<+\infty$ for the solutions on graded Lie group groups. Examples and applications of the developed theory are given, either in terms of self-adjoint operators on compact or non-compact manifolds, or in the case of particular settings of graded Lie groups. The results of this paper significantly extend in different directions the results of Part I, where operators on compact Lie groups were considered. We note that the results obtained in this paper are also new already in the Euclidean setting of $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Anisotropic Shannon inequality

In this note we prove the anisotropic version of the Shannon inequality. This can be conveniently realised in the setting of Folland and Stein's homogeneous groups. We give two proofs: one giving the best constant, and another one using the Kubo-Ogawa-Suguro inequality.

Schatten-von Neumann properties for Hörmander classes on compact Lie groups

Let $G$ be a compact Lie group of dimension $n.$ In this work we characterise the membership of classical pseudo-differential operators on $G$ in the trace class ideal $S_{1}(L^2(G)),$ as well as in the setting of the Schatten ideals $S_{r}(L^2(G)),$ for all $r>0.$ In particular, we deduce Schatten characterisations of elliptic pseudo-differential operators of $(ρ,δ)$-type for the large range $0\leq δ<ρ\leq 1.$ Additional necessary and sufficient conditions are given in terms of the matrix-valued symbols of the operators, which are global functions on the phase space $G\times \widehat{G},$ with the momentum variables belonging to the unitary dual $\widehat{G}$ of $G$. In terms of the parameters $(ρ,δ),$ on the torus $\mathbb{T}^n,$ we demonstrate the sharpness of our results showing the existence of atypical operators in the exotic class $Ψ^{-\varkappa}_{0,0}(\mathbb{T}^n),$ $\varkappa>0,$ belonging to all the Schatten ideals. Additional order criteria are given in the setting of classical pseudo-differential operators. We present also some open problems in this setting.

$L^p$-$L^q$ Boundedness of Spectral Multipliers of the Anharmonic Oscillator

In this note we study the $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers of anharmonic oscillators, and as a consequence also of spectral multipliers, for the range $1<p \leq 2 \leq q <\infty$. The underlying Fourier analysis is associated with the eigenfunctions of an anharmonic oscillator in some family of differential operators having derivatives of any order. Our analysis relies on a version of the classical Paley-type inequality, introduced by Hörmander, that we extend in our nonharmonic setting.

On a class of anharmonic oscillators II. General case

In this work we study a class of anharmonic oscillators on $\mathbb{R}^n$ corresponding to Hamiltonians of the form $A(D)+V(x)$, where $A(ξ)$ and $V(x)$ are $C^{\infty}$ functions enjoying some regularity conditions. Our class includes fractional relativistic Schrödinger operators and anharmonic oscillators with fractional potentials. By associating a Hörmander metric we obtain spectral properties in terms of Schatten-von Neumann classes for their negative powers and derive from them estimates on the rate of growth for the eigenvalues of the operators $A(D)+V(x)$. This extends the analysis in the first part of our work, where the case of polynomial $A$ and $V$ has been analysed.

The heat equation with singular potentials. II: Hypoelliptic case

In this paper we consider the heat equation with a strongly singular potential and show that it has a very weak solution. Our analysis is devoted to general hypoelliptic operators and is developed in the setting of graded Lie groups. The current work continues and extends a previous work , where the classical heat equation on $\mathbb R^n$ was considered.

Estimates for polynomial norms on Banach spaces

Our work is related to problems $73$ and $74$ of Mazur and Orlicz in ``The Scottish Book" (ed. R. D. Mauldin). Let $k_1, \ldots, k_n$ be nonnegative integers such that $\sum_{i=1}^{n} k_{i}=m$, and let $\mathbb{K}(k_1, \ldots, k_n; X)$, where $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$, be the smallest number satisfying the property: if $L$ is any symmetric $m$-linear form on a Banach space $X$, then \[ \sup_{\|x_{i}\|\leq 1 ,\atop i=1,2,\ldots ,n} |L(x_{1}^{k_1},\ldots ,x_{n}^{k_n})|\leq \mathbb{K}(k_1, \ldots, k_n; X)\sup_{\|x\|\leq 1} |L(x, \ldots ,x)|\,, \] where the exponents $k_{1}, \ldots, k_{n}$, are as described above, and each $k_{i}$ denotes the number of coordinates in which the corresponding base variable appears. In the case of complex Banach spaces, the problem of optimising the constant $\mathbb{C}(k_1, \ldots, k_n; X)$ is well-studied. In the more challenging case of real Banach spaces much less is known about the estimates for $\mathbb{R}(k_1, \ldots, k_n; X)$. In this work, both real and complex settings are examined using results from the local theory of Banach spaces, as well as from interpolation theory of linear operators. In the particular case of complex $L^{p}(μ)$ spaces, and for certain values of $p$, our results are optimal. As an application, we prove Markov-type inequalities for homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces.

Logarithmic Hardy-Rellich inequalities on Lie groups

In this paper we obtain logarithmic Hardy and Rellich inequalities on general Lie groups. In the case of graded groups, we also show their refinements using the homogeneous Sobolev norms. In fact, we derive a family of weighted logarithmic Hardy-Rellich inequalities, for which logarithmic Hardy and Rellich inequalities are special cases. As a consequence of these inequalities, we also derive a Gross type logarithmic Hardy inequality on general stratified groups. An interesting feature of such estimate is that we consider the measure which is Gaussian only on the first stratum of the group. Such choice of the measure is natural in view of the known Gross type logarithmic Sobolev inequalities on stratified groups. The obtained results are new already in the setting of the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^n.$ Finally, we also present a simple argument for getting a logarithmic Poincaré inequality, as well as the logarithmic Hardy inequality for the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian on homogeneous groups.

On $(λ,μ)$-classes on the Engel group

The purpose of this note is to compare the properties of the symbolic pseudo-differential calculus on the Heisenberg and on the Engel groups; nilpotent Lie groups of 2-step and 3-step, respectively. Here we provide a preliminary analysis of the structure and of the symbolic calculus with symbols parametrized by $(λ,μ)$ on the Engel group, while for the case of the Heisenberg group we recall the analogous results on the $λ$-classes of symbols.

On a class of anharmonic oscillators

In this work we study a class of anharmonic oscillators within the framework of the Weyl-Hörmander calculus. The anharmonic oscillators arise from several applications in mathematical physics as natural extensions of the harmonic oscillator. A prototype is an operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$ of the form $(-Δ)^{\ell}+|x|^{2k}$ for $k,\ell$ integers $\geq 1$. The simplest case corresponds to Hamiltonians of the form $|ξ|^2+|x|^{2k}$. Here by associating a Hörmander metric $g$ to a given anharmonic oscillator we investigate several properties of the anharmonic oscillators. We obtain spectral properties in terms of Schatten-von Neumann classes for their negative powers. We also study some examples of anharmonic oscillators arising from the analysis on Lie groups

Quantizations on the Engel and the Cartan groups

This work aims to develop a global quantization in the concrete settings of two graded nilpotent Lie groups of 3-step; namely of the Engel group and the Cartan group. We provide a preliminary analysis on the structure and the representations of the aforementioned groups, and their corresponding Lie algebras. In addition, the explicit formulas for the difference operators in the two settings are derived, constituting the necessary prerequisites for the constructions of the $Ψ^{m}_{ρ,δ}$ classes of symbols in both cases. In the case of the Engel group, the relation between the Kohn-Nirenberg quantization and the representations of the Engel group enables us to express operators in this setting in terms of quantization of symbols in the Euclidean space. We illustrate the $L^p-L^q$ boundedness for spectral multipliers theorems with particular examples of operators in both groups, that yield appropriate Sobolev-type inequalities. As a further application of the above, we get some consequences for the $L^p-L^q$ norm for the heat kernel of those particular examples of operators in both settings.
