Uncertainty inequalities in a non-Hermitian scenario

We investigate uncertainty relations for quantum observables evolving under non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, with particular emphasis on the role of metric operators. By constructing appropriate metrics in each dynamical regime, namely the unbroken-symmetry phase, the spontaneously broken-symmetry phase, and at exceptional points, we provide a consistent definition of expectation values, variances, and time evolution within a Krein-space framework. Within this approach, we derive a generalized Heisenberg-Robertson uncertainty inequality which is valid across all spectral regimes. As an application, we analyze a spin model with parity-time reversal symmetry and show that, while the uncertainty measure exhibits oscillatory behavior in the unbroken phase, it evolves towards a minimum-uncertainty steady state in the spontaneously broken-symmetry phase and at exceptional points. We further compare our metric-based description with a Lindblad master-equation approach and show their agreement in the steady state. Our results highlight the necessity of incorporating appropriate metric structures to extract physically meaningful predictions from non-Hermitian quantum dynamics.

A unified fidelity-based framework for quantum speed limits in open quantum systems

In this work, we investigate the role of functionals of generalized fidelity measures in deriving quantum speed limits (QSLs) within a geometric approach. We establish a general theoretical framework and show that, once a specific generalized fidelity is selected, the resulting Margolus-Levitin and Mandelstam-Tamm QSLs for both unitary and nonunitary (Lindblad-type) dynamics depend solely on the chosen fidelity measure. We prove that any monotone, differentiable reparametrization of the chosen fidelity yields exactly the same Margolus-Levitin and Mandelstam-Tamm-type QSL, rendering the QSLs invariant under such transformations and thereby unifying fidelity- and metric-induced geometric formulations. This result highlights the limitations of improving QSLs through functional transformations of fidelity and indicates that genuine improvements must arise from alternative fidelity definitions. We further show that several QSLs reported in the literature are encompassed by our framework and discuss possible extensions based on other generalized fidelity measures beyond those explicitly analyzed. In addition, we consider the damped Jaynes-Cummings model as a concrete physical setting to explore the behavior of the QSLs discussed in this work and analyze their regime-dependent features.

Optimal quantum teleportation protocols for fixed average fidelity

We demonstrate that among all quantum teleportation protocols giving rise to the same average fidelity, those with aligned Bloch vectors between input and output states exhibit the minimum average trace distance. This defines optimal protocols. Furthermore, we show that optimal protocols can be interpreted as the perfect quantum teleportation protocol under the action of correlated one-qubit channels. In particular, we focus on the deterministic case, for which the final Bloch vector length is equal for all measurement outcomes. Within these protocols, there exists one type that corresponds to the action of uncorrelated channels: these are depolarizing channels. Thus, we established the optimal quantum teleportation protocol under a very common experimental noise.

Fluctuation and dissipation in memoryless open quantum evolutions

Von Neumann entropy rate for open quantum systems is, in general, written in terms of entropy production and entropy flow rates, encompassing the second law of thermodynamics. When the open-quantum-system evolution corresponds to a quantum dynamical semigroup, we find a decomposition of the infinitesimal generator of the dynamics, that allows to relate the von Neumann entropy rate with the divergence-based quantum Fisher information, at any time. Applied to quantum Gaussian channels that are dynamical semigroups, our decomposition leads to the quantum analog of the generalized classical de Bruijn identity, thus expressing the quantum fluctuation-dissipation relation in that kind of channels. Finally, from this perspective, we analyze how stationarity arises.

$κ$-Deformed quantum and classical mechanics for a system with position-dependent effective mass

We present the quantum and classical mechanics formalisms for a particle with position-dependent mass in the context of a deformed algebraic structure (named $κ$-algebra), motivated by the Kappa-statistics. From this structure we obtain deformed versions of the position and momentum operators, which allow to define a point canonical transformation that maps a particle with constant mass in a deformed space into a particle with position-dependent mass in the standard space. We illustrate the formalism with a particle confined in an infinite potential well and the Mathews-Lakshmanan oscillator, exhibiting uncertainty relations depending on the deformation.

Entropic analysis of the quantum oscillator with a minimal length

The well-known Heisenberg--Robertson uncertainty relation for a pair of noncommuting observables, is expressed in terms of the product of variances and the commutator among the operators, computed for the quantum state of a system. Different modified commutation relations have been considered in the last years with the purpose of taking into account the effect of quantum gravity. Indeed it can be seen that letting $[X,P] = i\hbar (1+βP^2)$ implies the existence of a minimal length proportional to $\sqrtβ$. The Bialynicki-Birula--Mycielski entropic uncertainty relation in terms of Shannon entropies is also seen to be deformed in the presence of a minimal length, corresponding to a strictly positive deformation parameter $β$. Generalized entropies can be implemented. Indeed, results for the sum of position and (auxiliary) momentum Rényi entropies with conjugated indices have been provided recently for the ground and first excited state. We present numerical findings for conjugated pairs of entropic indices, for the lowest lying levels of the deformed harmonic oscillator system in 1D, taking into account the position distribution for the wavefunction and the actual momentum.

Distinguishability notion based on Wootters statistical distance: application to discrete maps

We study the distinguishability notion given by Wootters for states represented by probability density functions. This presents the particularity that it can also be used for defining a distance in chaotic unidimensional maps. Based on that definition, we provide a metric $\overline{d}$ for an arbitrary discrete map. Moreover, from this we associate a metric space to each invariant density of a given map, which results to be the set of all distinguished points when the number of iterations of the map tends to infinity. Also, we give a characterization of the wandering set of a map in terms of the given metric which allows to identify the dissipative regions in the phase space. We illustrate the results in the case of the logistic and the circle maps numerically and theoretically, and we obtain the metric and the wandering set for some characteristic values of their parameters.

Gaussian ensembles distributions from mixing quantum systems

In the context of the mixing dynamical systems we present a derivation of the Gaussian ensembles distributions from mixing quantum systems having a classical analog that is mixing. We find that mixing factorization property is satisfied for the mixing quantum systems expressed as a factorization of quantum mean values. For the case of the kicked rotator and in its fully chaotic regime, the factorization property links decoherence by dephasing with Gaussian ensembles in terms of the weak limit, interpreted as a decohered state. Moreover, a discussion about the connection between random matrix theory and quantum chaotic systems, based on some attempts made in previous works and from the viewpoint of the mixing quantum systems, is presented.

Ergodic statistical models: entropic dynamics and chaos

We present an extension of the ergodic, mixing and Bernoulli levels of the ergodic hierarchy in dynamical systems, the information geometric ergodic hierarchy (IGEH), making use of statistical models on curved manifolds in the context of information geometry. We discuss the $2\times 2$ Gaussian Orthogonal Ensembles (GOE) within a $2D$ correlated model. For $r$ vanishingly small, we find that GOE belong to the information geometric (IG) mixing level having a maximum negative value of scalar curvature. Moreover, we propose a measure of distinguishability for the family of distributions of the $2D$ correlated model that results to be an upper bound of the IG correlation.

Entropic measures of joint uncertainty: effects of lack of majorization

We compute Rényi entropies for the statistics of a noisy simultaneous observation of two complementary observables in two-dimensional quantum systems. The relative amount of uncertainty between two states depends on the uncertainty measure used. These results are not reproduced by a more standard duality relation. We show that these behaviors are consistent with the lack of majorization relation between the corresponding statistics.

A semiclassical condition for chaos based on Pesin theorem

A semiclassical method to determine if the classical limit of a quantum system is chaotic or not, based on Pesin theorem, is presented. The method is applied to a phenomenological Gamow--type model and it is concluded that its classical limit is chaotic.

On a generalized entropic uncertainty relation in the case of the qubit

We revisit generalized entropic formulations of the uncertainty principle for an arbitrary pair of quantum observables in two-dimensional Hilbert space. Rényi entropy is used as uncertainty measure associated with the distribution probabilities corresponding to the outcomes of the observables. We derive a general expression for the tight lower bound of the sum of Rényi entropies for any couple of (positive) entropic indices (α,β). Thus, we have overcome the Hölder conjugacy constraint imposed on the entropic indices by Riesz-Thorin theorem. In addition, we present an analytical expression for the tight bound inside the square [0 , 1/2] x [0 , 1/2] in the α-βplane, and a semi-analytical expression on the line β= α. It is seen that previous results are included as particular cases. Moreover, we present an analytical but suboptimal bound for any couple of indices. In all cases, we provide the minimizing states.

Statistical modelling of higher-order correlations in pools of neural activity

Simultaneous recordings from multiple neural units allow us to investigate the activity of very large neural ensembles. To understand how large ensembles of neurons process sensory information, it is necessary to develop suitable statistical models to describe the response variability of the recorded spike trains. Using the information geometry framework, it is possible to estimate higher-order correlations by assigning one interaction parameter to each degree of correlation, leading to a $(2^N-1)$-dimensional model for a population with $N$ neurons. However, this model suffers greatly from a combinatorial explosion, and the number of parameters to be estimated from the available sample size constitutes the main intractability reason of this approach. To quantify the extent of higher than pairwise spike correlations in pools of multiunit activity, we use an information-geometric approach within the framework of the extended central limit theorem considering all possible contributions from high-order spike correlations. The identification of a deformation parameter allows us to provide a statistical characterisation of the amount of high-order correlations in the case of a very large neural ensemble, significantly reducing the number of parameters, avoiding the sampling problem, and inferring the underlying dynamical properties of the network within pools of multiunit neural activity.

Position-momentum uncertainty relations based on moments of arbitrary order

The position-momentum uncertainty-like inequality based on moments of arbitrary order for d-dimensional quantum systems, which is a generalization of the celebrated Heisenberg formulation of the uncertainty principle, is improved here by use of the Renyi-entropy-based uncertainty relation. The accuracy of the resulting lower bound is physico-computationally analyzed for the two main prototypes in d-dimensional physics: the hydrogenic and oscillator-like systems.

Some extensions of the uncertainty principle

We study the formulation of the uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics in terms of entropic inequalities, extending results recently derived by Bialynicki-Birula [1] and Zozor et al. [2]. Those inequalities can be considered as generalizations of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, since they measure the mutual uncertainty of a wave function and its Fourier transform through their associated Rényi entropies with conjugated indices. We consider here the general case where the entropic indices are not conjugated, in both cases where the state space is discrete and continuous: we discuss the existence of an uncertainty inequality depending on the location of the entropic indices $α$ and $β$ in the plane $(α, β)$. Our results explain and extend a recent study by Luis [2], where states with quantum fluctuations below the Gaussian case are discussed at the single point $(2,2)$.
