Non-perturbative Topological String Partition Function on Twisted Affine Line Bundle over $\mathbb{C}\times T^2$

Using instanton partition function for five dimensional $U(1)$ gauge theory with eight supercharges and a single adjoint massive hypermultiplet on the $\Omega$ background, we give explicit expression for non-perturbative corrections to the topological string theory in the holomorphic limit. It was argued that in this case the theory is compactified on the twisted affine line bundle over $\mathbb{C}\times T^2$. We perform calculations in two ways. First we modify the integration contour by adding poles responsible for non-perturbative physics in accordance with a recent proposal. Then, we compute the genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa invariants for our case and evaluate the non-perturbative corrections to the partition function. We check that both calculations give the same result.

Supercurrents in N=1 Minimal Supergravity in the Superconformal Formalism

We discuss the Einstein tensor, the supercurrent and their conservation laws of old and new minimal formulations of supergravity in the superconformal approach. The variation of the action with respect to the gauge field of the $R$-symmetry in the conformal approach (the auxiliary field in the super-Poincaré action) allows to find the Einstein tensor and supercurrent in any curved background. Hence generalized expressions for their Ward identities follow. This proceeding is based on arXiv:1805.09228, arXiv:1705.02272.

Comments on rigid and local supercurrents in ${\cal N}=1$ minimal Supergravity

We discuss local supercurrents as sources of the super-Einstein equations in the superconformal approach in the old and new minimal (auxiliary fields) formulation. Modifications of the Ward identity giving the covariant divergence of the Einstein multiplet are considered in presence of a Fayet-Iliopoulos term. Curvature multiplets can be used as alternative to the gravitino variation in the search for rigid supersymmetric curved backgrounds.

Highlights in Supergravity: CCJ 47 Years Later

We consider an expression for the supercurrent in the superconformal formulation of N=1 supergravity. A chiral compensator provides the supersymmetric formulation of the Callan-Coleman-Jackiw (CCJ) improved stress energy tensor, when the conformal gauge is used. Superconformal and non-superconformal matter give different conservation laws of the supercurrent, when coupled to the curvature supermultiplets which underlie the local superspace geometry. This approach can be applied to any set of auxiliary fields and it is useful to classify rigid curved superspace geometries. Examples with four supersymmetries are briefly described.

The Supercurrent and Einstein equations in the Superconformal formulation

We give a new expression for the supercurrent and its conservation in curved ${\cal N}=1$, $D=4$ superspace using the superconformal approach. The first component of the superfield, whose lowest component is the vector auxiliary field gives the (super)Einstein equations. Its trace and couplings to conformal and non-conformal matter is presented. In a suitable dilatational gauge, the conformal gauge, we obtain an update of the Callan-Coleman-Jackiw improved currents for conformal matter, containing $R$-symmetry corrections for a new traceless covariantly conserved energy--momentum tensor. We observe that in the Poincaré gauge, where standard Poincaré supergravity is usually formulated, the currents are not improved and then the higher conformal symmetry of the matter sector is obscured. The curvature multiplets are used to find supersymmetric curved backgrounds and some examples are exhibited in agreement with existing results.

A string realisation of $\varOmega$-deformed Abelian $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ theory

The $\mathscr{N}=2^*$ supersymmetric gauge theory is a massive deformation of $\mathscr{N}=4$, in which the adjoint hypermultiplet gets a mass. We present a D-brane realisation of the (non-)Abelian $\mathscr{N}=2^*$ theory, and compute suitable topological amplitudes, which are expressed as a double series expansion. The coefficients determine couplings of higher-dimensional operators in the effective supergravity action that involve powers of the anti-self-dual $\mathscr{N}=2$ chiral Weyl superfield and of self-dual gauge field strengths superpartners of the D5-brane coupling modulus. In the field theory limit, the result reproduces the Nekrasov partition function in the two-parameter $\varOmega$-background, in agreement with a recent proposal.

Non-perturbative aspects of gauge and string theories and their holographic relations

In this thesis we discuss non-perturbative phenomena emerging in gauge and in string/supergravity theories. We compute the partition function of 5D minimal supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory with extra adjoint matter in general Omega-background. These N=2^* theories are massive deformations of N=4 SYM and can be thought of as a minimal supersymmetric five dimensional theory compactified on a circle. Such partition functions encode very rich topological information. We show that this partition function at some special values of the parameters directly reproduces the generating function for the Poincare` polynomial of the moduli space of instantons. We discuss the basic aspects of worldsheet and penta-brane instantons as well as (unoriented) D-brane instantons and threshold corrections to BPS-saturated couplings in superstring theories. We consider non-perturbative superpotentials generated by `gauge' and `exotic' instantons living on D3-branes at orientifold singularities. We also discuss the interplay between worldsheet and D-string instantons on T^4/Z_2. We focus on a 4-fermi amplitude and offer a multi D-string instanton interpretation. We discuss also AdS/CFT correspondence and the role of instantons there. We concentrate on AdS4/CFT3 correspondence. We revisit Kaluza-Klein compactification of 11-d supergravity on S^7/Z_k using group theory techniques that may find application in other flux vacua with internal coset spaces. Among the SO(2) neutral states, we identify marginal deformations and fields that couple to the recently discussed worldsheet instanton of Type IIA on CP^3. We also discuss charged states, dual to monopole operators, and the Z_k projection of the Osp(8|4) singleton and its tensor products. We show that the doubleton spectrum may account for N =6 higher spin symmetry enhancement in the limit of vanishing 't Hooft coupling in the boundary CS theory.

Precision Spectroscopy and Higher Spin symmetry in the ABJM model

We revisit Kaluza-Klein compactification of 11-d supergravity on S^7/Z_k using group theory techniques that may find application in other flux vacua with internal coset spaces. Among the SO(2) neutral states, we identify marginal deformations and fields that couple to the recently discussed world-sheet instanton of Type IIA on CP^3. We also discuss charged states, dual to monopole operators, and the Z_k projection of the Osp(4|8) singleton and its tensor products. In particular, we show that the doubleton spectrum may account for N=6 higher spin symmetry enhancement in the limit of vanishing 't Hooft coupling in the boundary Chern-Simons theory.

Notes on unoriented D-brane instantons

In the first lecture, we discuss basic aspects of worldsheet and penta-brane instantons as well as (unoriented) D-brane instantons, which is our main focus here, and threshold corrections to BPS-saturated couplings. The second lecture is devoted to non-perturbative superpotentials generated by `gauge' and `exotic' instantons living on D3-branes at orientifold singularities. In the third lecture we discuss the interplay between worldsheet and D-string instantons on $T^4/Z_2$. We focus on a 4-fermi amplitude, give Heterotic and perturbative Type I descriptions, and offer a multi D-string instanton interpretation. We conclude with possible interesting developments.

Instantons and the 5D U(1) gauge theory with extra adjoint

In this paper we compute the partition function of 5D supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory with extra adjoint matter in general $Ω$-background. It is well known that such partition functions encode very rich topological information. We show in particular that unlike the case with no extra matter, the partition function with extra adjoint at some special values of the parameters directly reproduces the generating function for the Poincare polynomial of the moduli space of instantons. Comparing our results with those recently obtained by Iqbal et. al., who used the refined topological vertex method, we present our comments on apparent discrepancies.
