Chiral density waves in quarkyonic matter

We study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter including the inhomogeneous phase of Chiral Density Waves (CDW) within the Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model. We discuss the phase structure taking into account density and flavour dependence of the Polyakov loop potential parameter and temperature dependence of the four-point coupling constant of the NJL model. It is shown that the CDW phase exists and that can be interpreted as a special realisation of quarkyonic matter. This fact is of particular interest because the existence of homogeneous quarkyonic matter is strongly constrained. This also indicates that the study of inhomogeneous phases at finite temperatures and baryon densities are of special importance.

Andreev reflection between a normal metal and the FFLO superconductor

We consider a process of the Andreev reflection between a normal metal and the s-wave superconductor in the FFLO state. It is shown that the process takes place if the energy of the incoming electron is bound within the finite interval called the Andreev window. The position of the window determines the value of the non-zero total momentum of Cooper pairs and the value of the gap.

Phase diagram of the non-uniform chiral condensate in different regularization schemes at T=0

We show that the qualitative picture of the phase diagram which includes the non-uniform chiral phase and 2SC superconducting phase is independent of the considered regularization schemes. We also demonstrate that the quantitative results agree with each other reasonably for the set of so called "relativistic" regularization schemes. On the other hand the "non-relativistic" momentum cut-off is clearly differ from the others.

Chiral doublers of heavy-light baryons

We discuss the consequences of the chiral doubling scenario for baryons built of heavy and light quarks. In particular, we use the soliton description for baryons, demonstrating why each heavy-light baryon should be accompanied by the opposite parity partner. Our argumentation holds both for ordinary baryons and for exotic heavy pentaquarks which are required by the symmetries of QCD to appear in parity doublets, seperated by the mass shift of the chiral origin. Interpreting the recently observed by BaBaR, CLEO and Belle charmed mesons with assignment $(0^+,1^+)$ as the chiral partners of known $D$ and $D^*$ mesons, allows us to estimate the parameters of the mesonic effective lagrangian, and in consequence, estimate the masses of ground states and excited states of both parities. In particular, we interpret the state recently reported by the H1 experiment at HERA as a chiral partner $\tildeΘ_c^0(3099)$ of yet undiscovered ground state pentaquark $Θ_c^0(2700)$.

Neutrino processes in the $K^0$ condensed phase of color flavor locked quark matter

We study weak interactions involving Goldstone bosons in the neutral kaon condensed phase of color flavor locked quark matter. We calculate the rates for the dominant processes that contribute to the neutrino mean free p ath and to neutrino production. A light $K^+$ state, with a mass $\tilde{m}_{K^+} \propto (Δ/μ) (Δ/m_s)(m_d-m_u)$, where $μ$ and $Δ$ are the quark chemical potential and superconducting gap respectively, is shown to play an important role. We identify unique characteristics of weak interaction rates in this novel phase and discuss how they might influence neutrino emission in core collapse supernova and neutron stars.

Andreev reflection in superconducting QCD

In this paper we discuss the phenomenon of the Andreev reflection of quarks at the interface between the 2SC and the Color-Flavor-Locked (CFL) superconductors appeared in QCD at asymptotically high densities. We also give the general introduction to the Andreev reflection in the condensed matter systems as well as the review of this subject in high density QCD.

Neutrino Rates in Color Flavor Locked Quark Matter

We study the weak interaction rates involving Goldstone bosons in the Color Flavor Locked (CFL) quark matter. Neutrino mean free path and the rate of energy loss due to neutrino emission in a thermal plasma of CFL pions and kaons is calculated. We find that in addition to neutrino scattering off thermal mesons, novel Cherenkov like processes wherein mesons are either emitted or absorbed contribute to the neutrino opacity. Lack of Lorentz invariance in the medium and loss of rotational invariance for processes involving mesons moving relative to the medium allow for novel processes such as $π^0 \to ν\barν$ and $e^- π^+ \to ν_e$. We explore and comment on various astrophysical implications of our finding.

Non-uniform chiral phase in effective chiral quark models

We analyze the phase diagram in effective chiral quark models (the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, the sigma-model with quarks) and show that at the mean-field level a phase with a periodically-modulated chiral fields separates the usual phases with broken and restored chiral symmetry. A possible signal of such a phase is the production of multipion jets travelling in opposite directions, with individual pions having momenta of the order of several hundred MeV. This signal can be interpreted in terms of disoriented chiral condensates.

Atomic collisions and sonoluminescence

We consider inelastic collisions between atoms of different kinds as a potential source of photons in the sonoluminescence phenomena. We estimate the total energy emitted in one flash and the shape of the spectrum and find a rough agreement between the results of our calculation and the experimental data. We conclude that the atomic collisions might be a candidate for the light-emitting mechanism for sonoluminescence and discuss the implications.

Cosmology in a Test Tube: Theory of Domain Walls Formation in Binary Fluids

Formation of domain walls during a rapid phase transition in a quasi one dimensional Cahn-Hiliard equation describing binary fluids in a thin tube is studied. Density of kinks scales like a sixth root of quench rate for equal concentrations and like a square root of quench rate for unequal concentrations of fluids. For a slow inhomogeneous transition the density is linear in velocity of temperature front. This paper is first theoretical study of topological defects formation in a system with conserved order parameter.
