Intuitionism and computing with partial information

There exist initial segments of both the Dyment lattice and the Dyment-Muchnik lattice that yield Brouwer algebras modeling exactly the intuitionistic propositional calculus. For the Dyment-Muchnik lattice, this result is obtained by constructing a splitting class of enumeration degrees. In contrast, the full Dyment lattice and the full Dyment-Muchnik lattice model the intuitionistic propositional calculus plus the weak law of excluded middle. We also observe that certain naturally definable classes of enumeration degrees, which are downwards closed under enumeration reducibility, fail to form splitting classes.

Minimal covers in the Weihrauch degrees

In this paper, we study the existence of minimal covers and strong minimal covers in the Weihrauch degrees. We characterize when a problem $f$ is a minimal cover or strong minimal cover of a problem $h$. We show that strong minimal covers only exist in the cone below $\mathsf{id}$ and that the Weihrauch lattice above $\mathsf{id}$ is dense. From this, we conclude that the degree of $\mathsf{id}$ is first-order definable in the Weihrauch degrees and that the first-order theory of the Weihrauch degrees is computably isomorphic to third-order arithmetic.

Redundancy of information: lowering dimension

Let At denote the set of infinite sequences of effective dimension t. We determine both how close and how far an infinite sequence of dimension s can be from one of dimension t, measured using the Besicovitch pseudometric. We also identify classes of sequences for which these infima and suprema are realized as minima and maxima. When t < s, we find d(X,At) is minimized when X is a Bernoulli p-random, where H(p)=s, and maximized when X belongs to a class of infinite sequences that we call s-codewords. When s < t, the situation is reversed.

Generics for Mathias forcing over general Turing ideals

In Mathias forcing, conditions are pairs $(D,S)$ of sets of natural numbers, in which $D$ is finite, $S$ is infinite, and $\max D < \min S$. The Turing degrees and computational characteristics of generics for this forcing in the special (but important) case where the infinite sets $S$ are computable were thoroughly explored by Cholak, Dzhafarov, Hirst, and Slaman~\cite{CDHS-2014}. In this paper, we undertake a similar investigation for the case where the sets $S$ are members of general countable Turing ideals, and give conditions under which generics for Mathias forcing over one ideal compute generics for Mathias forcing over another. It turns out that if $\mathcal{I}$ does not contain only the computable sets, then non-trivial information can be encoded into the generics for Mathias forcing over $\mathcal{I}$. We give a classification of this information in terms of computability-theoretic properties of the ideal, using coding techniques that also yield new results about introreducibility. In particular, we extend a result of Slaman and Groszek and show that there is an infinite $Δ^0_3$ set with no introreducible subset of the same degree.
