Correlation of gamma-ray and optical variability of BL~Lacertae during the period of high blazar activity

Investigating the correlation of flux variability in blazars across multiple spectral bands provides a key tool for constraining emission mechanisms and jet physical parameters. We study the gamma-ray and optical variability correlation of BL Lacertae on timescales of about 1 day during September 2022, when the source was within the TESS field of view, and over a longer period (April 2022 - September 2023) encompassing its gamma-ray flare, which finishes the series of flares during the high-activity phase. Our analysis confirms the Synchrotron Self-Compton mechanism as the origin of the gamma-ray emission, characterized by a zero time lag. For the longer interval, the Discrete Correlation Function (DCF) reveals a second statistically significant peak at the time lag of about 12 days. We demonstrate that this peak arises due to the presence of an additional flare in one of the bands, which accompanies a gamma-ray and optical flares correlated at zero time lag. We interpret the orphan flare origin in terms of the propagation of an injected blob of high-energy electrons along a jet with a decaying magnetic field, accounting for electron radiative cooling.

eROSITA-RU Tidal Disruption Events with Keck-I/LRIS: Sample Selection, Optical Properties, and Host Galaxy Demographics

We select seventy tidal disruption event (TDE) candidates among X-ray transients discovered during the eROSITA all-sky surveys in the Eastern Galactic hemisphere between December 2020 and February 2022 (eRASS1--5). We cross-match each X-ray source to a host galaxy in archival optical surveys using Bayesian likelihood-ratio techniques and obtain Keck/LRIS spectroscopy for all 70 host galaxies. Host properties are inferred through SED fitting with Prospector and emission line analysis with pPXF. We develop a robust classification scheme using X-ray and broad line luminosities, narrow-line ionization diagnostics, and optical variability to identify high-confidence TDEs, for which we analyze optical spectral features, light curve properties, and host galaxy demographics. Our final sample contains 52 TDEs with redshifts of $0.018 \leq z\leq0.714$, comprising 41 gold (high-confidence) and 11 silver (lower-confidence) events. The vast majority (93\%) of gold TDEs are intrinsically brighter in the X-ray band, with $L_{\rm X,peak} > L_{\rm opt, peak}$. Among 23 events with detected optical flares, delayed X-ray peak is commonly observed. We identify transient spectral features in eight events, including six with prominent broad \ion{He}{II} $\lambda$4686 and/or H$\alpha$ emission and two coronal-line TDEs. Host galaxy demographics reveal modest over-representation in green valley ($\times1.8$) and quiescent Balmer-strong ($\times5.3$) galaxies, significantly weaker than previous TDE samples, demonstrating greater diversity in star formation histories than previously recognized. Most TDE hosts exhibit suppressed star formation relative to the main sequence, consistent with X-ray selection biases against dusty star-forming galaxies.

Long-term multiband optical variability of S5 0716+714 blazar

Multiband optical photometry data of blazar S5 0716+714 obtained from 2002 to 2019 reveal stable color index change with flux variability. We analyzed this trend under variability caused by the Doppler factor change in the presence of a curved photon energy spectrum. A break in the energy spectrum of emitting electrons, caused by radiative losses, or log-parabolic electron energy distribution, or the synchrotron self-absorption acting in a compact jet part forms such the photon spectrum. We explained the observed color index change with variability by geometric effects only under the assumption that the radiating region is the synchrotron self-absorbed core and the bright optically thin jet. In this framework, we estimated the magnetic field strength in the optically thick part of the radiating region. These values correspond to other independent estimates of the magnetic field near the black hole, further supporting our assumption.

The Transit Timing and Atmosphere of Hot Jupiter HAT-P-37b

The transit timing variation (TTV) and transmission spectroscopy analyses of the planet HAT-P-37b, which is a hot Jupiter orbiting an G-type star, were performed. Nine new transit light curves are obtained and analysed together with 21 published light curves from the literature. The updated physical parameters of HAT-P-37b are presented. The TTV analyses show a possibility that the system has an additional planet which induced the TTVs amplitude signal of 1.74 $\pm$ 0.17 minutes. If the body is located near the 1:2 mean motion resonance orbit, the sinusoidal TTV signal could be caused by the gravitational interaction of a sub-Earth mass planet with mass of 0.06 $M_\oplus$. From the analysis of an upper mass limit for the second planet, the Saturn mass planet with orbital period less than 6 days is excluded. The broad-band transmission spectra of HAT-P-37b favours a cloudy atmospheric model with an outlier spectrum in $B$-filter.
