Universal Two-Loop Current--Current Renormalization of Four-Fermion Operators

The complete one- and two-loop gauge and scalar current--current contributions to the running of arbitrary dimension-six four-fermion operators are reported. The results are obtained in a basis-independent and renormalization-scheme-agnostic fashion and are valid for arbitrary gauge groups. The complete gauge and scalar contributions, including the genuine one- and two-loop poles, counterterm insertions, wave-function renormalization, finite evanescent insertions, diagram multiplicities, and the associated color, charge and Yukawa factors are provided for the most general renormalizable Lagrangian with gauge and scalar interactions. The results enable the derivation of leading- and next-to-leading-order current--current anomalous-dimension matrices for arbitrary Effective Field Theories (EFTs) and constitute a significant step toward the complete two-loop renormalization of general EFTs.

Model-Building Implications from Light Magnetic Monopoles: A Case Study of Flavour Deconstruction

We highlight a generic connection between extensions of the Standard Model featuring low-scale semi-simple embeddings of $\rm{U}(1)_{\rm EM}$ and the phenomenology of light magnetic monopoles in the early Universe. Combining cosmological, astrophysical, and direct-search constraints, we show that magnetic monopoles with masses far below the scale of Grand Unified Theories are generically excluded and require low-scale inflation to dilute their abundance, followed by reheating below the monopole-production scale. These constraints are particularly relevant for flavour non-universal models, which provide a well-motivated framework to address the hierarchical structure of Yukawa couplings while allowing new dynamics close to the TeV scale compatible with experimental bounds. In many of these constructions, the sequential breaking of semi-simple gauge groups through intermediate stages containing a $\rm{U}(1)$ factor generically leads to the production of light magnetic monopoles. We show that the parameter region naturally predicted by these models implies low-scale inflation, with reheating temperature as low as $10^{3}\text{--}10^4 \,\mathrm{TeV}$. These results significantly reduce the otherwise large allowed inflationary window and establish a direct connection between flavour physics and the thermal history of the early Universe: future evidence for a low-scale semi-simple embedding of $\rm U(1)_{\rm EM}$, in particular through flavour non-universal interactions, would point towards low-scale reheating, while probes of primordial gravitational waves could directly constrain the scale at which low-scale semi-simple groups can appear.

The structure of multi-axion solutions to the strong CP problem

A broad experimental program is targeting the QCD axion band predicted by single-axion solutions to the strong CP problem. Multi-axion theories provide a well-motivated departure from this canonical picture, since additional states generically modify the mass-photon-coupling relation. We investigate the general structure of multi-axion solutions to the strong CP problem and study the different qualitative mass-coupling patterns that arise, including axions to the right of the QCD band, axions in the experimentally accessible region to its left, and scenarios in which the QCD axion band itself is displaced. This general treatment reveals a broad set of phenomenological possibilities that are not captured by more restrictive assumptions. In particular, we identify the structure of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking and the relative alignment between the QCD and electromagnetic anomalies as key ingredients determining the location of the axions in parameter space. Combining these ingredients, we derive a general sum rule for $N$-axion systems that incorporates both general PQ breaking and non-universal anomaly coefficients. We apply the framework to the two-axion system and to general multi-axion setups, identifying UV-complete theories in which the different phenomenological regimes arise naturally. Our results motivate an extended axion search program and have implications for our understanding of fundamental physics and the ultraviolet completion of the Standard Model.

Early Career Researcher Input to the European Strategy for Particle Physics Update: White Paper

This document, written by early career researchers (ECRs) in particle physics, aims to represent the perspectives of the European ECR community and serves as input for the 2025--2026 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics. With input from a community-wide survey, it highlights key challenges faced by ECRs -- career stability, funding access and long-term research opportunities -- while proposing policy recommendations and targeted initiatives. It underscores the importance of practices fostering diverse, equitable, inclusive and healthy workplaces, as well as of stronger ECR communities, and highlights how effective communication and interdisciplinary collaborations reinforce the societal relevance of particle physics and promote continued support for large-scale and long-term projects. Finally, the future of both collider and beyond-collider experiments is addressed, emphasising the critical role of ECRs in shaping future projects. The ECR contribution is formed of two parts: the ten-page executive summary submitted as input to the European Strategy for Particle Physics Update and, as backup document, this extended white paper providing additional context.

Flavored Circular Collider: cornering New Physics at FCC-ee via flavor-changing processes

We illustrate the potential of a future high-intensity $e^+ e^-$ collider running at the $Z$ pole in probing extensions of the Standard Model via precise measurements of flavor-changing processes. We illustrate this potential both within effective field theories and simplified models inspired by current $B$-physics data, focusing on selected flavor-physics measurement projections at FCC-ee, and by the theoretically well-motivated scenario of TeV-scale new physics predominantly coupled to third-generation fields. In particular, we demonstrate the key role played by the interplay among different flavor-physics measurements, and between flavor and electroweak measurements, in cornering the New Physics parameter space. Updated constraints on new physics, in the limit that no deviations from the Standard Model are observed, are also presented.

Flavour Non-Universality and Higgs Compositeness

We present a flavour non-universal extension of the Standard Model combined with the idea of Higgs compositeness. At the TeV scale, the gauge groups $SU(2)_R$ and $U(1)_{B-L}$ are assumed to act in a non-universal manner on light- and third-generation fermions, while the Higgs emerges as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of the spontaneous global symmetry breaking $Sp(4)\to SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R^{[3]}$, attributed to new strong dynamics. We discuss how the radiatively generated Higgs potential has the ingredients to realize the unavoidable tuning necessary to separate electroweak and composite scales. In particular, the flavoured gauge bosons resulting from the deconstruction must lie in the vicinity of the TeV scale, thereby providing interesting phenomenology that can be probed at near future colliders.

Two-Loop Anomalous Dimensions in the LEFT: Dimension-Six Four-Fermion Operators in NDR

We derive the complete set of two-loop anomalous dimensions describing the mixing of four-fermion operators in the Low Energy Effective Field Theory (LEFT). The calculation is performed in Naive Dimensional Regularization with anticommuting $\gamma_5$ (the NDR scheme), and the results are given in the "JMS basis" of dimension-six operators. The derivation relies on known results for UV poles in two-loop diagrams in QCD, which are then used to derive the two-loop Anomalous Dimension Matrix (ADM) for the full set of four-fermion operators including $O(\alpha_s^2)$, $O(\alpha_s\alpha)$ and $O(\alpha^2)$ corrections. The method employed is an extension of a common approach to deal with traces containing $\gamma_5$ in NDR. Our results have been implemented in the public code DsixTools. We also discuss and provide the results in the LEFT with 5, 4 and 3 active quark flavors.

Flavour Deconstructing the Composite Higgs

We present a flavour non-universal extension of the Standard Model combined with the idea of Higgs compositeness. At the TeV scale, the gauge groups $SU(2)_R$ and $U(1)_{B-L}$ are assumed to act in a non-universal manner on light- and third-generation fermions, while the Higgs emerges as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of the spontaneous global symmetry breaking $Sp(4)\to SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R^{[3]}$, attributed to new strong dynamics. The flavour deconstruction means the couplings of the light families to the composite sector (and therefore the pNGB Higgs) are suppressed by powers of a heavy mass scale (from which the Higgs is nevertheless shielded by compositeness), explaining the flavour puzzle. We present a detailed analysis of the radiatively generated Higgs potential, showing how this intrinsically-flavoured framework has the ingredients to justify the unavoidable tuning in the Higgs potential necessary to separate electroweak and composite scales. This happens for large enough values of the $SU(2)_R^{[3]}$ gauge coupling and light enough flavoured gauge bosons resulting from the deconstruction, whose phenomenology is also investigated. The model is compatible with current experimental bounds and predicts new states at the TeV scale, which are within the reach of near future experimental searches.

Early-Career Researchers' Perspective on Future Colliders

Since its inception, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has significantly advanced particle physics and will continue to do so in the context of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) program to collect $3000$ fb$^{-1}$ by the end of 2041. The particle physics community worldwide is discussing which future collider could follow in the footsteps of the LHC and uncover yet inaccessible phenomena. To foster the discussion on this important topic among the young particle physicist community, the Early-Career Researchers (ECR) panel of the European Committee for Future Colliders (ECFA) has organized the Future Colliders for Early-Career Researchers workshop at CERN in September 2023. This document aims to summarise this event and present the ECR perspective, outline the key questions that came up during the discussions, and explore how ECRs can influence the decision process of future colliders community and beyond.

A Simple Dirac Prescription for Two-Loop Anomalous Dimension Matrices

A novel method to treat effects from evanescent operators in next-to-leading order (NLO) computations is introduced. The approach allows, besides further simplifications, to discard evanescent-to-physical mixing contributions in NLO calculations. The method is independent of the treatments of $\gamma_5$ and can therefore be combined with different renormalization schemes. We illustrate the utility of this result by reproducing literature results of two-loop anomalous dimension matrices for both $|\Delta F| = 1$ and $|\Delta F| = 2$ transitions.

Renormalization scheme factorization of one-loop Fierz identities

We present a proof of the factorization of renormalization scheme in one-loop-corrected Fierz identities. This scheme factorization facilitates the simultaneous transformation of operator basis and renormalization scheme using only relations between physical operators; the evanescent operators in the respective bases may be chosen entirely independently of each other. The relations between evanescent operators in the two bases is automatically accounted for by the corrected Fierz identities. We illustrate the utility of this result with a two-loop anomalous dimension matrix computation using the Naive-Dimensional Regularization scheme, which is then transformed via one-loop Fierz identities to the known result in the literature given in a different basis and calculated in the Larin scheme. Additionally, we reproduce results from the literature of basis transformations involving the rotation of evanescent operators into the physical basis using our method, without the need to explicitly compute one-loop matrix elements of evanescent operators.

Electroweak-flavour and quark-lepton unification: a family non-universal path

We present a family-non-universal extension of the Standard Model where the the first two families feature both quark-lepton and electroweak-flavour unification, via the $SU(4) \times Sp(4)_L \times Sp(4)_R$ gauge group, whereas quark-lepton unification for the third family is realised \`a la Pati-Salam. Via staggered symmetry breaking steps, this construction offers a natural explanation for the observed hierarchical pattern of fermion masses and mixings, while providing a natural suppression for flavour-changing processes involving the first two generations. The last-but-one step in the symmetry-breaking chain is a non-universal 4321 model, characterised by a vector leptoquark naturally coupled mainly to the third generation. The stability of the Higgs sector points to a 4321$\to$SM symmetry-breaking scale around the TeV, with interesting phenomenological consequences in $B$ physics and collider processes that differ from those of other known 4321 completions.

Dipole operators in Fierz identities

We study the contribution from dipole operators to one-loop Fierz identities and provide the resulting QCD and QED shifts to the tree-level relations for all four-fermion operators. The results simplify one-loop basis changes as well as matching computations and allow one to consistently eliminate operators from an operator basis which give rise to complications, e.g. traces involving $\gamma_5$.

Confronting the vector leptoquark hypothesis with new low- and high-energy data

In light of new data we present an updated phenomenological analysis of the simplified $U_1$-leptoquark model addressing charged-current $B$-meson anomalies. The analysis shows a good compatibility of low-energy data (dominated by the lepton flavor universality ratios $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$) with the high-energy constraints posed by $pp\to \tau\bar\tau$ Drell-Yan data. We also show that present data are well compatible with a framework where the leptoquark couples with similar strength to both left- and right-handed third-generation fermions, a scenario that is well-motivated from a model building perspective. We find that the high-energy implications of this setup will be probed at the 95% confidence level in the high-luminosity phase of the LHC.

One-loop Fierz Transformations

Fierz transformations for four-fermion operators are generalized to the one-loop level. A general renormalization scheme is used to compute QCD and QED corrections to the tree-level relations, which result from Fierz-evanescent operators. The results can be used to perform general one-loop basis transformations involving four-fermi and evanescent operators. We illustrate the usefulness of our results by discussing two examples from a matching calculation and a one-loop basis change.

Semi-inclusive Lepton Flavor Universality ratio in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions

We construct a semi-inclusive Lepton Flavour Universality (LFU) ratio, $R_\Sigma$, to test $\mu/e$ universality in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions at $e^+e^-$ $B$-meson factories. Combining different decay channels, this observable maximises the sensitivity to possible LFU violations of short distance origin, yet preserving a clean theoretical interpretation in case of a deviation from its Standard Model prediction, $R_\Sigma^{\rm SM}=1$.
