Revisiting the Wess-Zumino-Witten Term in Nuclear and Quark Matter under Magnetic Fields and Rotation

We study anomalous Wess-Zumino-Witten terms associated with the chiral anomaly in dense QCD matter under magnetic fields and rotation. By introducing electromagnetic, baryon number, and isospin background gauge fields, we write down the topological couplings of neutral mesons for the $N_f=2$ and $N_f=3$ cases. The resulting terms contain characteristic contributions proportional to $\vec{B} \cdot \vec{\nabla} ϕ$ and $\vecΩ \cdot \vec{\nabla} ϕ$, where $ϕ$ denotes $π^0$, $η$, or $η'$. These results are relevant to chiral soliton lattices in dense rotating matter.

Chiral Soliton Lattices under Magnetic Fields and Rotation: a Holographic Analysis

We study the chiral soliton lattice (CSL) in rotating QCD matter under a background magnetic field within holographic QCD. We show that rotation can be incorporated as a background gauge field and that the CSL in rotating matter becomes a ground state in the gravity dual. We also provide a brane interpretation of the CSL under a magnetic field and rotation. Solving the bulk equations, we derive an effective Hamiltonian where the meson decay constant $\tilde{f}$ emerges as an anisotropic, field-dependent matrix. Furthermore, we discuss the thermodynamic properties of the ground state in rotating matter and study its equation of state.

Homogeneous Anisotropic Black Branes with Bianchi VI$_h$ Symmetry

We construct a new family of exact vacuum black brane solutions to five-dimensional Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant, characterized by a homogeneous horizon with Bianchi VI$_h$ symmetry. This construction generalizes the known Solv (Bianchi VI$_{-1}$) geometry via a continuous anisotropy parameter, $h$. By reducing the field equations to a cohomogeneity-one system, we derive the metric analytically. These homogeneous solutions are not asymptotically (locally) AdS, but nevertheless we analyze the thermodynamics, establishing scaling relations between entropy and temperature with anisotropic holographic system in mind. Additionally, we identify a new branch of Ricci-flat, hyperscaling-violating vacuum solutions in the case where the cosmological constant vanishes.

Holographic QCD Matter: Chiral Soliton Lattices in Strong Magnetic Field

We investigate the chiral soliton lattice (CSL) in the framework of holographic QCD in magnetic field. Under appropriate boundary conditions for the gauge field and the quark mass deformation, we demonstrate that the ground state in the gravitational dual of QCD is given by the CSL in the background magnetic field and the baryon number density. In the presence of the background magnetic field, we show that the CSL is interpreted as a uniformly distributed D4-branes in the holographic setup, where the chiral soliton is identified with a non-self-dual instanton vortex or a center vortex in the five dimensional bulk gauge theory. While the baryon numbers are given to chiral solitons as well as Skyrmions due to the different terms in the Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) term in the chiral perturbation theory, these baryon numbers with different origins are unified in terms of the instanton charge density in five dimensions. With bulk analysis of the WZW term, we find that the pion decay constant becomes dependent on the magnetic field. For the massless pion case, we obtain an analytical form that is in qualitative agreement with lattice QCD results for strong magnetic fields.

Modes of the Sakai-Sugimoto soliton

The instanton in the Sakai-Sugimoto model corresponds to the Skyrmion on the holographic boundary - which is asymptotically flat - and is fundamentally different from the flat Minkowski space Yang-Mills instanton. We use the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem and a series of transformations to show that there are 6k zeromodes - or moduli - in the limit of infinite 't Hooft coupling of the Sakai-Sugimoto model. The implications for the low-energy baryons - the Skyrmions - on the holographic boundary, is a scale separation between 2k "heavy" massive modes and 6k-9 "light" massive modes for k>1; the 9 global transformations that correspond to translations, rotations and isorotations remain as zeromodes. For k=1 there are 2 "heavy" modes and 6 zeromodes due to degeneracy between rotations and isorotations.

Relativistic Hydrodynamics under Rotation: Prospects & Limitations from a Holographic Perspective

The AdS/CFT correspondence, or holography, has provided numerous important insights into the behavior of strongly-coupled many-body systems. Crucially, it has provided a testing ground for the construction of new effective field theories, especially those in the low frequency, long wavelength limit known as hydrodynamics. We review the study of strongly-coupled rotating fluids using holography, and we examine the hydrodynamics emerging from the study of rotating Myers-Perry black holes. We discuss three regimes in which holographic rotating fluids display either (1) hydrodynamic behavior of a boosted fluid, (2) hydrodynamic behavior distinct from a boosted fluid, or (3) no obvious hydrodynamic behavior. We describe techniques to obtain hydrodynamic and non-hydrodynamic modes, and we compute the radius of convergence for the hydrodynamic regimes. The limitations of hydrodynamics under rotation are discussed alongside our findings.

Holographic Global Vortices with Novel Boundary Conditions

The AdS/CFT correspondence has significantly impacted the study of strongly coupled systems, providing insights into various condensed matter phenomena through its holographic duality. This paper introduces an alternative approach to the breaking of the global $U(1)$ symmetry in the bulk in two asymptotically AdS spacetimes: AdS plus hard wall and AdS Blackbrane. We explore a $(3+1)$-dimensional bulk $U(1)$ symmetry-breaking phase vacuum within a global $U(1)$ $ϕ^4$ field theory, without the gauge field present in prior models. We find the symmetry-breaking vacuum requires that the mass squared is proportional to the quartic coupling. We also investigate numerical solutions of topologically stable vortex strings extending into the bulk. We find evidence that the full UV expansion is dual to a point-like boundary excitation.

Chaos and pole-skipping in a simply spinning plasma

We study the relationship between many-body quantum chaos and energy dynamics in holographic quantum field theory states dual to the simply-spinning Myers-Perry-AdS$_5$ black hole. The enhanced symmetry of such black holes allows us to provide a thorough examination of the phenomenon of pole-skipping, that is significantly simpler than a previous analysis of quantum field theory states dual to the Kerr-AdS$_4$ solution. In particular we give a general proof of pole-skipping in the retarded energy density Green's function of the dual quantum field theory whenever the spatial profile of energy fluctuations satisfies the shockwave equation governing the form of the OTOC. Furthermore, in the large black hole limit we are able to obtain a simple analytic expression for the OTOC for operator configurations on Hopf circles, and demonstrate that the associated Lyapunov exponent and butterfly velocity are robustly related to the locations of a family of pole-skipping points in the energy response. Finally, we note that in contrast to previous studies, our results are valid for any value of rotation and we are able to numerically demonstrate that the dispersion relations of sound modes in the energy response explicitly pass through our pole-skipping locations.
