Unfocused notes on the Markoff equation and T-Singularities

We consider minimal resolutions of the singularities for weighted projective planes of type $\mathbb{P}(e^2, f^2, g^2)$, where $e, f, g$ satisfy the Markoff equation $ e^2 + f^2 + g^2 = 3efg$. We give a complete classification of such resolutions in terms of continued fractions similar to classical work of Frobenius. In particular, we investigate the behaviour of resolutions under mutations and describe a Cantor set emerging as limits of continued fractions.

Vector bundles on proper toric 3-folds and certain other schemes

We show that a proper algebraic n-dimensional scheme Y admits nontrivial vector bundles of rank n, even if Y is non-projective, provided that there is a modification containing a projective Cartier divisor that intersects the exceptional locus in only finitely many points. Moreover, there are such vector bundles with arbitrarily large top Chern number. Applying this to toric varieties, we infer that every proper toric threefold admits such vector bundles of rank three. Furthermore, we describe a class of higher-dimensional toric varieties for which the result applies, in terms of convexity properties around rays.

Combinatorial aspects of exceptional sequences on (rational) surfaces

We investigate combinatorial aspects of exceptional sequences in the derived category of coherent sheaves on certain smooth and complete algebraic surfaces. We show that to any such sequence there is canonically associated a complete toric surface whose torus fixpoints are either smooth or cyclic T-singularities (in the sense of Wahl) of type $\frac{1}{r^2}(1, kr - 1)$. We also show that any exceptional sequence can be transformed by mutation into an exceptional sequence which consists only of objects of rank one.

Tilting Bundles on Rational Surfaces and Quasi-Hereditary Algebras

Let $X$ be any rational surface. We construct a tilting bundle $T$ on $X$. Moreover, we can choose $T$ in such way that its endomorphism algebra is quasi-hereditary. In particular, the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a finite dimensional quasi-hereditary algebra $A$. The construction starts with a full exceptional sequence of line bundles on $X$ and uses universal extensions. If $X$ is any smooth projective variety with a full exceptional sequence of coherent sheaves (or vector bundles, or even complexes of coherent sheaves) with all groups $\mExt^q$ for $q \geq 2$ vanishing, then $X$ also admits a tilting sheaf (tilting bundle, or tilting complex, respectively) obtained as a universal extension of this exceptional sequence.

A lifting functor for toric sheaves

For a variety X which admits a Cox ring we introduce a functor from the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on $X$ to the category of graded modules over the homogeneous coordinate ring of $X$. We show that this functor is right-adjoint to the sheafification functor and therefore left-exact. Moreover, we show that this functor preserves torsion-freeness and reflexivity. For the case of toric sheaves we give a combinatorial characterization of its right-derived functors in terms of certain right-derived limit functors.

Resolutions and Cohomologies of Toric Sheaves. The affine case

We study equivariant resolutions and local cohomologies of toric sheaves for affine toric varieties, where our focus is on the construction of new examples of decomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules of higher rank. A result of Klyachko states that the category of reflexive toric sheaves is equivalent to the category of vector spaces together with a certain family of filtrations. Within this setting, we develop machinery which facilitates the construction of minimal free resolutions for the smooth case as well as resolutions which are acyclic with respect to local cohomology functors for the general case. We give two main applications. First, over the polynomial ring, we determine in explicit combinatorial terms the Z^n-graded Betti numbers and local cohomology of reflexive modules whose associated filtrations form a hyperplane arrangement. Second, for the non-smooth, simplicial case in dimension d >= 3, we construct new examples of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules of rank d - 1.

Equivariant Primary Decomposition and Toric Sheaves

We study global primary decompositions in the category of sheaves on a scheme which are equivariant under the action of an algebraic group. We show that equivariant primary decompositions exist if the group is connected. As main application we consider the case of varieties which are quotients of a quasi-affine variety by the action of a diagonalizable group and thus admit a homogeneous coordinate ring, such as toric varieties. Comparing these decompositions with primary decompositions of graded modules over the homogeneous coordinate ring, we show that these are equivalent if the action of the diagonalizable group is free. We give some specific examples for the case of toric varieties.

Divisorial Cohomology Vanishing on Toric Varieties

This work discusses combinatorial and arithmetic aspects of cohomology vanishing for divisorial sheaves on toric varieties. We obtain a refined variant of the Kawamata-Viehweg theorem which is slightly stronger. Moreover, we prove a new vanishing theorem related to divisors whose inverse is nef and has small Kodaira dimension. Finally, we give a new criterion for divisorial sheaves for being maximal Cohen-Macaulay.

Exceptional Sequences of Invertible Sheaves on Rational Surfaces

In this article we consider exceptional sequences of invertible sheaves on smooth complete rational surfaces. We show that to every such sequence one can associate a smooth complete toric surface in a canonical way. We use this structural result to prove various theorems on exceptional and strongly exceptional sequences of invertible sheaves on rational surfaces. We construct full strongly exceptional sequences for a large class of rational surfaces. For the case of toric surfaces we give a complete classification of full strongly exceptional sequences of invertible sheaves.

A Counterexample to King's Conjecture

King's conjecture states that on every smooth complete toric variety $X$ there exists a strongly exceptional collection which generates the bounded derived category of $X$ and which consists of line bundles. We give a counterexample to this conjecture. This example is just the Hirzebruch surface $\mathbb{F}_2$ iteratively blown up three times, and we show by explicit computation of cohomology vanishing that there exist no strongly exceptional sequences of length 7.

On the Local Cohomology of Reflexive Modules of Rank One over Normal Semigroup Rings

In this work we describe the local cohomology of reflexive modules of rank one over normal semigroup rings with respect to monomial ideals. Using our description we show that the problem of classifying maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules of rank one can be rephrased in terms of finding integral solutions to certain sets of linear inequalities.

Resolutions for Equivariant Sheaves over Toric Varieties

In this work we construct global resolutions for general coherent equivariant sheaves over toric varieties. For this, we use the framework of sheaves over posets. We develop a notion of gluing of posets and of sheaves over posets, which we apply to construct global resolutions for equivariant sheaves. Our constructions give a natural correspondence between resolutions for reflexive equivariant sheaves and free resolutions of vector space arrangements.

Moduli for Equivariant Vector Bundles of Rank Two on Smooth Toric Surfaces

We give a complete classification of equivariant vector bundles of rank two over smooth complete toric surfaces and construct moduli spaces of such bundles. This note is a direct continuation of an earlier note where we developed a general description of equivariant sheaves on toric varieties. Here we give a first application of that description.

Graded Rings and Equivariant Sheaves on Toric Varieties

In this note we derive a formalism for describing equivariant sheaves over toric varieties. This formalism is a generalization of a correspondence due to Klyachko, which states that equivariant vector bundles on toric varieties are equivalent to certain sets of filtrations of vector spaces. We systematically construct the theory from the point of view of graded ring theory and this way we clarify earlier constructions of Kaneyama and Klyachko. We also connect the formalism to the theory of fine-graded modules over Cox' homogeneous coordinate ring of a toric variety. As an application we construct minimal resolutions of equivariant vector bundles of rank two on toric surfaces.
