On estimates for the discrete eigenvalues of two-dimensional quantum waveguides

In this paper, we give upper estimates for the number and sum of eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum counting multiplicities of quantum waveguides in two dimensions. We consider both straight and curved waveguides of constant width, and the estimates are presented in terms of norms of the potential. For the curved quantum waveguide, we assume that the waveguide is not self-intersecting and its curvature is a continuous and bounded function on R. The estimates are new, particularly for the case of curved quantum waveguides.

A Mathematical Model for Co-infection Dynamics of Pneumocystis Pneumonia and HIV/AIDS with Treatment

The control of opportunistic infections among HIV infected individuals should be one of the major public health concerns in reducing mortality rate of individuals living with HIV/AIDS. In this study a deterministic co-infection mathematical model is employed to provide a quantification of treatment at each contagious stage against Pneumocystis Pneumonia (PCP) among HIV infected individuals on ART. The disease-free equilibrium for the HIV/AIDS sub model, PCP sub model and the co-infection model are shown to be locally asymptotically stable when their associated disease threshold parameter is less than a unity. By use of suitable Lyapunov functions, the endemic equilibrium corresponding to HIV/AIDS and PCP sub models are globally asymptotically stable whenever $\mathcal{R}_{0H}>1$ and $\mathcal{R}_{0P}>1$ respectively. The sensitivity analysis results implicate that the effective contact rates are the main mechanisms fueling the proliferation of the two diseases and on the other hand treatment efforts play an important role in reducing the incidence. Numerical simulations show that treatment of PCP at all contagious stages reduces its burden on HIV/AIDS patients and dual treatment of the co-infected individuals significantly reduces the burden of the co-infection.

On negative eigenvalues of two-dimensional Schroedinger operators with singular potentials

We present upper estimates for the number of negative eigenvalues of two-dimensional Schroedinger operators with potentials generated by Ahlfors regular measures of arbitrary dimension $α\in (0, 2]$.The estimates are given in terms of the integrals of the potential with a logarithmic weight and of its L $\log$ L type Orlicz norms. In the case $α= 1$, our estimates are stronger than the known ones about Schroedinger operators with potentials supported by Lipschitz curves.

On the discrete spectrum of Schroedinger operators with Ahlfors regular potentials in a strip

In this paper, quantitative upper estimates for the number of eigenvalues lying below the essential spectrum of Schroedinger operators with potentials generated by Ahlfors regular measures in a strip subject to two different types of boundary conditions (Robin and Dirichlet respectively) are presented. The estimates are presented in terms of weighted L^1 norms and Orlicz norms of the potential.

Eigenvalue bounds for a class of Schroedinger operators in a strip

This paper is concerned with the estimation of the number of negative eigenvalues (bound states) of Schroedinger operators in a strip subject to Neumann boundary conditions. The estimates involve weighted L^1 norms and L ln L norms of the potential. Estimates involving the norms of the potential supported by a curve embedded in the strip are also presented.

Estimates for the number of eigenvalues of two dimensional Schroedinger operators lying below the essential spectrum

The celebrated Cwikel-Lieb_Rozenblum inequality gives an upper estimate for the number of negative eigenvalues of Schroedinger operators in dimension three and higher. The situation is much more difficult in the two dimensional case. There has been significant progress in obtaining upper estimates for the number of negative eigenvalues of two dimensional Schroedinger operators on the whole plane. In this thesis, we present estimates of the Cwikel-Lieb_Rozenblum type for the number of eigenvalues (counted with multiplicities) of two dimensional Schroedinger operators lying below the essential spectrum in terms of the norms of the potential. The problem is considered on the whole plane with different supports of the potential of dimension between 0 and 2, and on a strip with various boundary conditions. In both cases, the estimates involve weighted L^1 norms and Orlicz norms of the potential.
