Deep inelastic scattering as a probe of entanglement: the complete QCD dipole cascade

We study entanglement entropy in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) using the dipole formulation of the high-energy limit of QCD. We argue that a reduced density matrix arises in low $x$ DIS due to a trace over unobserved color degrees of freedom and we obtain entanglement entropy in terms of dipole multiplicities, directly from the von Neumann entropy. Dipole multiplicities are obtained from a solution to low $x$ evolution equations, which we solve numerically. Unlike previous studies, we take into account both transverse-size and azimuthal-angle dependence in the dipole evolution kernel. We study both the exact solution of the equation as well as its double leading-logarithmic approximation (DLLA). We find that for the same initial dipole size, the DLLA solution generates a larger entropy. Finally, we calculate the dipole multiplicities and entanglement entropy and compare our results to the Shannon entropy of hadron multiplicities, as measured by the H1 collaboration.

Isospin-symmetry violation -- kaons and beyond (ISO-BREAK 25: summary and outlook)

This report summarizes the presentations and discussions during the ISO-BREAK 25 Workshop ``Isospin symmetry violation: kaons and beyond'', which was held at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce on October 23-25, 2025. We address the current status of the isospin-symmetry breaking discovered by NA61/SHINE in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN SPS, its confirmation by other experiments and studies in \ee and deep inelastic scattering. In addition, we discuss the theoretical status as well as we outline experimental and theoretical priorities towards understanding this currently unexplained phenomenon.

Isospin kaon anomaly and its consequences

Isospin symmetry is well fulfilled in the QCD vacuum, as evidenced by small mass differences of isospin partners and suppressed isospin-violating decays. Recently, the NA61/SHINE collaboration reported an unexpectedly large isospin-violating charged-to-neutral kaon ratio in Ar-Sc heavy-ion collisions (HIC).Using a quark recombination approach, we introduce a function of kaon multiplicities that reduces to unity in the isospin-symmetric limit independently of the scattering energy and type of nuclei. Using this quantity, we show that nucleus-nucleus collisions violate isospin sizably (at the $6.4\sigma$--level), while proton-proton data on kaon multiplicities do not. We predict other isospin-violating enhancements in HIC, such as the proton-to-neutron ratio $p/n \sim 1.2$ and the hyperon ratio $\Sigma^{+}/\Sigma^{-}\sim1.4$. Finally, we extend the approach to antiquarks in the initial state, useful for e.g. pion-nucleus scattering reactions.

Predictions for photon-jet correlations at forward rapidities in heavy-ion collisions

In this work, we study for the first time jet-medium interactions in heavy-ion collisions with introduction of saturation and Sudakov effects with parameters tuned for upcoming forward calorimeter acceptances in experiments, in particular the ALICE FoCal detector. We focus on $\gamma +$jet correlations by taking into account in-medium parton evolution using the BDIM equation that describes jet interactions with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) combined with vacuum-like emissions (VLE). We systematically introduce the early time gluon saturation dynamics through the small-$x$ Improved Transverse Momentum Dependent factorization (ITMD). For our purpose, we use Monte Carlo programs KATIE and TMDICE to generate hard events and in-medium parton evolution, respectively. We present results of azimuthal correlations and nuclear modification ratios to gauge the impact of the gluon saturation effects at early time for the in-medium jet energy loss.

SUBA-Jet: a new Model for Jets in Heavy Ion Collisions

We present a new model for jet quenching in a quark gluon plasma (QGP). The jet energy loss has two steps. The initial jet parton with a high virtuality loses energy by a perturbative vacuum parton shower modified by medium interactions until it becomes on shell. Subsequent energy loss originates from elastic and radiative collisions with the medium constituents. Coherency of the radiative collisions is achieved by starting with virtual gluons that act as field dressing of the initial jet parton. These are formed according to a Gunion-Bertsch seed. The QCD version of the LPM effect is obtained by increasing the phase of the virtual gluons through elastic scatterings with the medium. Above a phase threshold, the virtual gluons will be formed and can produce coherent radiation themselves. The model has been implemented in a Monte Carlo code and is validated by successfully reproducing the BDMPS-Z prediction for the energy spectrum of radiated gluons in a static medium. Results for the more realistic case, in which the assumptions of the BDMPS-Z approach are released, are also shown. We investigate the influence of various parameters on the energy spectrum and the transverse momentum distribution, such as the in-medium quark masses, the energy transfer in the recoil process, and the phase accumulation criteria, especially for low and intermediate energy gluons.

A New Model for Jet Energy Loss in Heavy Ion Collisions

We present a new model for jet quenching from coherent radiation in a brick medium. The jet energy loss is simulated as a perturbative final-state vacuum parton shower followed by a medium-induced shower originating from elastic and radiative collisions with the medium constituents. Coherency is achieved by starting with trial gluons that act as field dressing of the initial jet parton. These are formed according to a Gunion-Bertsch seed. The QCD version of the LPM effect is attained by increasing the phase of the trial gluons through elastic scatterings with the medium. Above a phase threshold, the trial gluons will be realised and can produce coherent radiation themselves. The model has been implemented in a Monte Carlo code and has been validated by successfully reproducing the BDMPS-Z prediction for the energy spectrum. The realistic case with minimal assumptions are also produced and shown. In particular, we show the influence of various parameters on the energy spectrum and transverse momentum distribution, such as the in-medium quark masses, the energy transfer in the recoil process, and the phase accumulation criteria, especially for low and intermediate energy gluons. Future studies will allow for the interface with full simulations of the quark-gluon-plasma with hydrodynamic evolution, such as vHLLE, along with subsequent hadronisation of the jet partons in order to produce realistic distributions that can be directly compared to LHC and RHIC data.

Transverse momentum broadening of medium-induced cascades in expanding media

In this work, we explore the features of gluonic cascades in static and Bjorken expanding media by numerically solving the full BDIM evolution equations in longitudinal momentum fraction $x$ and transverse momentum $\boldsymbol{k}$ using the Monte Carlo event generator MINCAS. Confirming the scaling of the energy spectra at low-$x$, discovered in earlier works, we use this insight to compare the amount of broadening in static and expanding media. We compare angular distributions for the in-cone radiation for different medium profiles with the effective scaling laws and conclude that the out-of-cone energy loss proceeds via the radiative break-up of hard fragments, followed by an angular broadening of soft fragments. While the dilution of the medium due to expansion significantly affects the broadening of the leading fragments, we provide evidence that in the low-$x$ regime, which is responsible for most of the gluon multiplicity in the cascade, the angular distributions are very similar when comparing different medium profiles at an equivalent, effective in-medium path length. This is mainly due to the fact that in this regime, the broadening is dominated by multiple splittings. Finally, we discuss the impact of our results on the phenomenological description of the out-of-cone radiation and jet quenching.

The TMDICE Monte Carlo shower program and algorithm for jet-fragmentation via coherent medium induced radiations and scatterings

Parton jets in the hot and dense medium of a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) can undergo multiple processes of scatterings off medium particles as well as processes of coherent medium induced radiations. A Monte-Carlo algorithm and resulting program is presented that allows to obtain jets that were formed by these two types of processes from an initial highly energetic quark or gluon. The program accounts for the increase in the momentum components of jet-particles transverse to the jet-axis due to processes of scattering as well as medium induced radiations in addition to energy-loss due to the medium induced radiations.

Benchmark of medium-induced radiative energy loss model for heavy-ion collisions

We report on a benchmark calculation of the in-medium radiative energy loss of low-virtuality jet partons within the EPOS3-Jet framework. The radiative energy loss is based on an extension of the Gunion-Bertsch matrix element for a massive projectile and a massive radiated gluon. On top of that, the coherence (LPM effect) is implemented by assigning a formation phase to the trial radiated gluons in a fashion similar to the approach in JHEP 07 (2011), 118, by Zapp, Stachel and Wiedemann. In a calculation with a simplified radiation kernel, we reproduce the radiation spectrum reported in the approach above. The radiation spectrum produces the LPM behaviour $dI/dω\proptoω^{-1/2}$ up to an energy $ω=ω_c$, when the formation length of radiated gluons becomes comparable to the size of the medium. Beyond $ω_c$, the radiation spectrum shows a characteristic suppression due to a smaller probability for a gluon to be formed in-medium. Next, we embed the radiative energy loss of low-virtuality jet partons into a more realistic "parton gun" calculation, where a stream of hard partons at high initial energy $E_\text{ini}=100$ GeV and initial virtuality $Q^2=E^2$ passes through a box of QGP medium with a constant temperature. At the end of the box evolution, the partons are hadronized using Pythia 8, and the jets are reconstructed with the FASTJET package. We find that the full jet energy loss in such scenario approaches a ballpark value reported by the ALICE collaboration. However, the calculation uses a somewhat larger value of the coupling constant $α_s$ to compensate for the missing collisional energy loss of the low-virtuality jet partons.

In-medium transverse momentum broadening effects on di-jet observables

Heavy ion collisions at high energies can be used as an interesting way to recreate and study the medium of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We particularly investigate the jets produced in hard binary collisions and their interactions with a tentative medium. These jets were obtained numerically from the Monte-Carlo simulations of hard collisions using the KATIE-algorithm [1], where parton momenta within the colliding nucleons were describe by means of unintegrated parton distribution functions (uPDF). We evolved these jets within a medium that contains both, transverse kicks (yielding a broadening in momentum transvers to the jet-axis) as well as medium induced radiation within the MINCAS-algorithm [2] following the works of [3,4]. We produce qualitative results for the decorrelation of dijets. In particular, we study deviations from a transverse momentum broadening that follows a Gaussian distribution. Effects of in-medium $k_T$ broadening on di-jet observables

We study the influence of in-medium transverse momentum broadening on observables of jet pairs produced in nuclear collisions. These dijets were obtained numerically via the Monte-Carlo simulations of nuclear collisions, where the partons within the colliding nuclei were described via unintegrated parton densities, and their subsequent propagation within the medium of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). For jet-evolution in the QGP both, kicks transverse to the momentum of the incoming particle as well as medium induced radiation were considered. After favorable comparison of our results with experimental LHC-data on jet-quenching we make predictions for the decorrelation of dijets. In particular, we study deviations from a transverse momentum broadening that follows a Gaussian distribution.

Jet overlap in heavy ion collisions at LHC energies and its consequences on jet shape

Central lead-lead collisions at the LHC energies may pose a particular challenge for jet identification as multiple jets are produced per each collision event. We simulate the jet evolution in central Pb-Pb events at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ GeV collision energy with EPOS3 initial state, which typically contains multiple hard scatterings in each event. Therefore the partons from different jets have a significant chance to overlap in momentum space. We find that 30% of the jets with $p_\perp > 50$ GeV, identified by the standard anti-$k_\perp$ jet finding algorithm with jet cone size R=0.3, contain `intruder' particles from overlapping generator-level jets. This fraction increases with increasing beam energy and increasing R. The reconstructed momentum of the jet differs from that of the modelled jet by the loss due to jet partons which are outside of the jet cone and by the gain due to intruder partons. The sum of both may be positive or negative. These intruder partons particularly affect the radial jet momentum distribution because they contribute mostly at large angles $Δr$ with respect to the jet centre. The study stresses the importance of the jet overlap effect emerging in central lead-lead collisions at the LHC energies, while being negligible in peripheral PbPb or $p$Pb/$pp$ collisions.

Longitudinal correlations from fluctuating strings in Pb-Pb, p-Pb, and p-p collisions

In a framework of a semi-analytic model with longitudinally extended strings of fluctuating end-points, we demonstrate that the rapidity spectra and two-particle correlations in collisions of Pb-Pb, p-Pb, and p-p at the energies of the Large Hadron Collider can be universally reproduced. In our approach, the strings are pulled by wounded constituents appearing in the Glauber modeling at the partonic level. The obtained rapidity profile for the emission of hadrons from a string yields bounds for the distributions of the end-point fluctuations. Then, limits for the two-particle-correlations in pseudorapidity can be obtained. Our results are favorably compared to recent experimental data from the ATLAS Collaboration.

Jet-fluid interaction in the EPOS3-Jet framework

EPOS3-Jet is an integrated framework for jet modelling in heavy ion collisions, where the initial hard (jet) partons are produced along with soft (medium) partons in the initial state EPOS approach. The jet partons then propagate in the hydrodynamically expanding medium. The energy and momentum lost by the jet partons is added to the hydrodynamic medium via the source terms. The full evolution proceeds in a concurrent mode, without separating hydrodynamic and jet parts. In this report, we examine the medium recoil effects in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV LHC energy in the EPOS3-Jet framework.

Correlations in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions with strings

While string models describe initial state radiation in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions well, they mainly differ in their end-point positions of the strings in spatial rapidity. We present a generic model where wounded constituents are amended with strings whose both end-point positions fluctuate and analyze semi-analytically various scenarios of string-end-point fluctuations. In particular we constrain the different cases to experimental data on rapidity spectra from collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$~GeV, and explore their respective two-body correlations, which allows to partially discriminate the possible solutions.

Correlations with fluctuating strings

We present a semi-analytic approach to forward-backward multiplicity correlations in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions, based on particle emission from strings with fluctuating end-points. We show that with the constraints from rapidity spectra, one can obtain bounds for the magnitude of the standard measures of the forward-backward fluctuations. The method is generic under the assumption of independent production from sources. For definiteness, we use the wounded quark model for Au+Au and d+Au collisions at the energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV.

Forward-backward multiplicity fluctuations in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions with wounded quarks and fluctuating strings

We analyze a generic model where wounded quarks are amended with strings in which both end-point positions fluctuate in spatial rapidity. With the assumption that the strings emit particles independently of one another and with a uniform distribution in rapidity, we are able to analyze the model semi-analytically, which allows for its detailed understanding. Using as a constraint the one-body string emission functions obtained from the experimental data for collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV, we explore the two-body correlations for various scenarios of string fluctuations. We find that the popular measures used to quantify the longitudinal fluctuations are limited with upper and lower bounds and assume close values for the most likely models of the end-point distributions, which may explain why various approaches yield here very similar results.

Effects of jet-medium interactions on angular correlations of jet-particle pairs at different energy scales

The energy-loss of hard probes within the hot and dense medium of a quark gluon plasma (QGP) can be described by theoretical models based on radiative energy loss as well as combinations of collisional and radiative energy loss. In a search for observables that allow to disentangle these energy-loss mechanisms, we introduced a set of effective models that allows to investigate the consequences on jets of both types of jet-medium interactions within a consistent framework. We particularly studied angular jet-broadening via angular two-particle correlations. Distinguishing contributions from pairs at different scales of particle momenta, we found qualitative differences between radiative and collisional approaches.
