Elliptic flow phenomenon at ATLAS

We summarize measurements of elliptic flow and higher order flow harmonics performed by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Results on event-averaged flow measurements and event-plane correlations in Pb+Pb collisions are discussed along with the event-by-event flow measurements. Further, we summarize results on flow in p+Pb collisions.

Particle-level pileup subtraction for jets and jet shapes

We present an extension to the jet area-based pileup subtraction for both jet kinematics and jet shapes. A particle-level approach is explored whereby the jet constituents are corrected or removed using an extension of the methods currently being employed by the LHC experiments. Several jet shapes and nominal jet radii are used to assess the performance in simulated events with pileup levels equivalent to approximately 30 and 100 interactions per bunch crossing, which are characteristic of both the LHC Run I and Run II conditions. An improved performance in removing the pileup contributions is found when using the new subtraction method. The performance of the new procedure is also compared to other existing methods.

Jet Quenching at LHC

We review up-to-date results on high-pt particles and jets in heavy ion collisions by three major LHC experiments, ALICE, ATLAS, and CMS. Results of analyses of 2010 and 2011 Pb+Pb data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV are discussed. We concentrate mainly on results by fully reconstructed jets and discuss similarities and important differences in measurements among experiments. We point to the importance of understanding the results in a view of difference between quark-initiated and gluon-initiated jets

Jets in heavy ion collisions with ATLAS

The energy loss of high-p_T partons provides insight into the transport properties of the medium created in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Evidence for this energy loss was first experimentally established through observation of high-p_T hadron suppression at RHIC. More recently, measurements of fully reconstructed jets have been performed at the LHC. In this summary the latest experimental results from the ATLAS collaboration on jet suppression are presented. In particular the jet suppression in inclusive jet yields, path length dependence of the jet suppression, photon-jet and Z^0-jet correlations, heavy flavor suppression, and jet fragmentation are discussed. These results establish qualitative features of the jet quenching mechanism as experimental fact and provide constraints on models of jet energy loss.

Jet Reconstruction and Jet Quenching in Heavy Ion Collisions at ATLAS

We present a measurement of dijet asymmetry and dijet azimuthal correlations in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV using the ATLAS detector. This measurement provides the first evidence of a strong jet quenching in relativistic heavy ion collisions at TeV energies. The jet reconstruction procedure is discussed as well as studies which have been performed to check that the observed asymmetry is not produced by detector effects and underlying event backgrounds.
