Wall And Chamber Structure For A Special Biserial Algebra Coming From Perverse Sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^n$

We describe the wall and chamber structure of a special biserial algebra whose module category is equivalent to the category of (middle) perverse sheaves on the complex projective space $\mathbb{P}^n$. In particular, by the well known classification of indecomposable modules for special biserial algebras, we deduce that the algebra of interest is of finite representation type and we provide an explicit description of the walls of the structure. By a result of Bridgeland this wall and chamber structure coincides with the chamber structure in an open subset of the space of stability conditions on the bounded derived category of constructible sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^n$.

Equivariant geometry of symmetric quiver orbit closures

We unify problems about the equivariant geometry of symmetric quiver representation varieties, in the finite type setting, with the corresponding problems for symmetric varieties $GL(n)/K$ where $K$ is an orthogonal or symplectic group. In particular, we translate results about singularities of orbit closures; combinatorics of orbit closure containment; and torus equivariant cohomology and K-theory between these classes of varieties. We obtain these results by constructing explicit embeddings with nice properties of homogeneous fiber bundles over type $A$ symmetric quiver representation varieties into symmetric varieties.

Symplectic Grassmannians and Cyclic Quivers

The goal of this paper is to extend the quiver Grassmannian description of certain degenerations of Grassmann varieties to the symplectic case. We introduce a symplectic version of quiver Grassmannians studied in our previous papers and prove a number of results on these projective algebraic varieties. First, we construct a cellular decomposition of the symplectic quiver Grassmannians in question and develop combinatorics needed to compute Euler characteristics and Poincaré polynomials. Second, we show that the number of irreducible components of our varieties coincides with the Euler characteristic of the classical symplectic Grassmannians. Third, we describe the automorphism groups of the underlying symplectic quiver representations and show that the cells are the orbits of this group. Lastly, we provide an embedding into the affine flag varieties for the affine symplectic group.

The algebra of splines: duality, group actions and homology

This survey gives an overview of three central algebraic themes related to the study of splines: duality, group actions, and homology. Splines are piecewise polynomial functions of a prescribed order of smoothness on some subdivided domain D in R^k, and appear in applications ranging from approximation theory to geometric modeling to numerical analysis. Alternatively, splines can be interpreted as a collection of polynomials labeling the vertices of a (combinatorial) graph, with adjacent vertex-labels differing by a power of an affine linear form attached to the edge. In most cases of interest, the subdivided domain is essentially dual to the combinatorial graph, and these two characterizations of splines coincide. Properties of splines depend on combinatorics, topology, geometry, and symmetry of a simplicial or polyhedral subdivision of a region D in R^k, and are often quite subtle. We describe how duality, group actions, and homology -- techniques which play a central role in many areas of both pure and applied mathematics -- can be used to illuminate different questions about splines. Our target audience is nonspecialists: we provide a concrete introduction to these methods, and illustrate them with many examples in the context of splines. We also provide a tutorial on computational aspects: all of the objects appearing in this note may be studied using open source computer algebra software.

Laumon parahoric local models via quiver Grassmannians

Local models of Shimura varieties in type A can be realized inside products of Grassmannians via certain linear algebraic conditions. Laumon suggested a generalization which can be identified with a family over a line whose general fibers are quiver Grassmannians for the loop quiver and the special fiber is a certain quiver Grassmannian for the cyclic quiver. The whole family sits inside the Gaitsgory central degeneration of the affine Grassmannians. We study the properties of the special fibers of the (complex) Laumon local models for arbitrary parahoric subgroups in type A using the machinery of quiver representations. We describe the irreducible components and the natural strata with respect to the group action for the quiver Grassmannians in question. We also construct a cellular decomposition and provide an explicit description for the corresponding poset of cells. Finally, we study the properties of the desingularizations of the irreducible components and show that the desingularization construction is compatible with the natural projections between the parahoric subgroups.

Structure algebras, Hopf algebroids and oriented cohomology of a group

We prove that the structure algebra of a Bruhat moment graph of a finite real root system is a Hopf algebroid with respect to the Hecke and the Weyl actions. We introduce new techniques (reconstruction and push-forward formula of a product, twisted coproduct, double quotients of bimodules) and apply them together with our main result to linear algebraic groups, to generalized Schubert calculus, to combinatorics of Coxeter groups and finite real root systems. As for groups, it implies that the natural Hopf-algebra structure on the algebraic oriented cohomology $h(G)$ of Levine-Morel of a split semi-simple linear algebraic group $G$ can be lifted to a `bi-Hopf' structure on the $T$-equivariant algebraic oriented cohomology of the complete flag variety. As for the Schubert calculus, we prove several new identities involving (double) generalized equivariant Schubert classes. As for finite real root systems, we compute the Hopf-algebra structure of `virtual cohomology' of dihedral groups $I_2(p)$, where $p$ is an odd prime.

Following Schubert varieties under Feigin's degeneration of the flag variety

We describe the effect of Feigin's flat degeneration of the type $\textrm{A}$ flag variety on its Schubert varieties. In particular, we study when they stay irreducible and in several cases we are able to encode reducibility of the degenerations in terms of symmetric group combinatorics. As a side result, we obtain an identification of some Schubert varieties with Richardson varieties in higher rank partial flag varieties.

Generalized juggling patterns, quiver Grassmannians and affine flag varieties

The goal of this paper is to clarify the connection between certain structures from the theory of totally nonnegative Grassmannians, quiver Grassmannians for cyclic quivers and the theory of local models of Shimura varieties. More precisely, we generalize the construction from our previous paper relating the combinatorics and geometry of quiver Grassmanians to that of the totally nonnegative Grassmannians. The varieties we are interested in serve as realizations of local models of Shimura varieties. We exploit quiver representation techniques to study the quiver Grassmannians of interest and, in particular, to describe explicitly embeddings into affine flag varieties which allow us to realize our quiver Grassmannians as a union of Schubert varieties therein.

GKM-Theory for Torus Actions on Cyclic Quiver Grassmannians

We define and investigate algebraic torus actions on quiver Grassmannians for nilpotent representations of the equioriented cycle. Examples of such varieties are type $\tt A$ flag varieties, their linear degenerations, finite dimensional approximations of the $GL_n$-affine flag variety and affine Grassmannian. We show that these quiver Grassmannians, equipped with our torus action, are GKM-varieties and that their moment graph admits a combinatorial description in terms of coefficients quiver of the underlying quiver representations. By adapting to our setting results by Gonzales, we are able to prove that moment graph techniques can be applied to construct module bases for the equivariant cohomology of the above quiver Grassmannians.

Totally nonnegative Grassmannians, Grassmann necklaces and quiver Grassmannians

Postnikov constructed a cellular decomposition of the totally nonnegative Grassmannians. The poset of cells can be described (in particular) via Grassmann necklaces. We study certain quiver Grassmannians for the cyclic quiver admitting a cellular decomposition, whose cells are naturally labeled by Grassmann necklaces. We show that the posets of cells coincide with the reversed cell posets of the cellular decomposition of the totally nonnegative Grassmannians. We investigate algebro-geometric and combinatorial properties of these quiver Grassmannians. In particular, we describe the irreducible components, study the action of the automorphism groups of the underlying representations and describe the moment graphs. We also construct a resolution of singularities for each irreducible component; the resolutions are defined as quiver Grassmannians for an extended cyclic quiver.

Singularities of Schubert Varieties within a Right Cell

We describe an algorithm which pattern embeds, in the sense of Woo-Yong, any Bruhat interval of a symmetric group into an interval whose extremes lie in the same right Kazhdan-Lusztig cell. This apparently harmless fact has applications in finding examples of reducible associated varieties of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-highest weight modules, as well as in the study of $W$-graphs for symmetric groups, and in comparing various bases of irreducible representations of the symmetric group or its Hecke algebra. For example, we are able to systematically produce many negative answers to a question from the 1980s of Borho-Brylinski and Joseph, which had been settled by Williamson via computer calculations only in 2014.

Permutation actions on Quiver Grassmannians for the equioriented cycle via GKM-Theory

In previous work we equipped quiver Grassmannians for nilpotent representations of the equioriented cycle with an action of an algebraic torus. We show here that the equivariant cohomology ring is acted upon by a product of symmetric groups and we investigate this permutation action via GKM techniques. In the case of (type A) flag varieties, or Schubert varieties therein, we recover Tymoczko's results on permutation representations.

Sheaves on the alcoves and modular representations II

We relate the category of sheaves on alcoves that was constructed in "Sheaves on the alcoves and modular representations I" to the representation theory of reductive algebraic groups. In particular, we show that its indecomposable projective objects encode the simple rational characters of a reductive algebraic group in all characteristics above the Coxeter number.

Sheaves on the alcoves and modular representations I

We consider the set of affine alcoves associated with a root system R as a topological space and consider a certain category S of sheaves of Z-modules on this space. Here Z is the structure algebra of the root system over a field k. To any wall reflection we associate a wall crossing functor on S. In the companion article "Sheaves on the alcoves and modular representations II" we prove that S encodes the simple rational characters of the connected, simply connected algebraic group with root system R over k, in the case that k is algebraically closed with characteristic above the Coxeter number.

A Riemann-Roch type theorem for twisted fibrations of moment graphs

In the present paper we extend the Riemann-Roch formalism to structure algebras of moment graphs. We introduce and study the Chern character and pushforwards for twisted fibrations of moment graphs. We prove an analogue of the Riemann-Roch theorem for moment graphs. As an application, we obtain the Riemann-Roch type theorem for equivariant $K$-theory of some Kac-Moody flag varieties.

Twisted quadratic foldings of root systems

In the present paper we study twisted foldings of root systems which generalize usual involutive foldings corresponding to automorphisms of Dynkin diagrams. Our motivating example is the Lusztig projection of the root system of type $E_8$ onto the subring of icosians of the quaternion algebra which gives the root system of type $H_4$. Using moment graph techniques for any such folding we construct a map at the equivariant cohomology level. We show that this map commutes with characteristic classes and Borel maps. We also introduce and study its restrictions to the usual cohomology of projective homogeneous varieties, to group cohomology and to their virtual analogues for finite reflection groups.

Oriented cohomology sheaves on double moment graphs

In the present paper we extend the theory of sheaves on moment graphs due to Braden-MacPherson and Fiebig to the context of an arbitrary oriented equivariant cohomology h (e.g. to algebraic cobordism). We introduce and investigate structure h-sheaves on double moment graphs to describe equivariant oriented cohomology of products of flag varieties. We show that in the case of a total flag variety X of Dynkin type A the space of global sections of the double structure h-sheaf also describes the endomorphism ring of the equivariant h-motive of X.

A Fock space model for decomposition numbers for quantum groups at roots of unity

In this paper we construct an "abstract Fock space" for general Lie types that serves as a generalisation of the infinite wedge $q$-Fock space familiar in type $A$. Specifically, for each positive integer $\ell$, we define a $\mathbb{Z}[q,q^{-1}]$-module $\mathcal{F}_{\ell}$ with bar involution by specifying generators and "straightening relations" adapted from those appearing in the Kashiwara-Miwa-Stern formulation of the $q$-Fock space. By relating $\mathcal{F}_{\ell}$ to the corresponding affine Hecke algebra we show that the abstract Fock space has standard and canonical bases for which the transition matrix produces parabolic affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. This property and the convenient combinatorial labeling of bases of $\mathcal{F}_{\ell}$ by dominant integral weights makes $\mathcal{F}_{\ell}$ a useful combinatorial tool for determining decomposition numbers of Weyl modules for quantum groups at roots of unity.
