1/2$^-$ $α$ cluster resonances of $^{13}$C studied by the analytic continuation in the coupling constant

The 1/2$^-$ resonant states in $^{13}{\rm C}$ are investigated to search for the Hoyle-analog state. In order to treat the resonance states located around the 3$α+n$ threshold, the analytic continuation in the coupling constant (ACCC) has been combined with the real-time evolution method (REM). The properties of the 1/2$^-$ resonance states such as the radii and monopole transition probabilities are calculated. We show the 1/2$^-_3$ and 1/2$^-_4$ states are well-developed $α$ cluster states, and the 1/2$^-_4$ state is a candidate of the Hoyle-analog state.

Shape of 12C

We have examined the hypothesis by Bijker and Iachello who asserted that 12C has an internal structure with three alpha particles arranged in a triangular shape, leading to the formation of the ground rotational band consisting of 0+, 2+, 3-, 4$^\pm$ and 5- states. Following this idea, we reconstructed the intrinsic shape of 12C using experimental electron scattering data with minimal theoretical assumption. Our sole assumption was that the observed 0+, 2+, 3-, and 4+ states share a common internal structure, forming a rotational spectrum. The reconstructed intrinsic density showed a beautiful triangular shape with three peaks implying alpha cluster formation in the ground band.

Impact of the molecular resonances on the 12C+12C fusion reaction rate

The properties of the low-energy 12C+12C molecular resonances, which potentially enhance the fusion reaction rate at low temperatures, have been investigated by a full-microscopic nuclear model employing various nuclear energy density functionals. We show that some density functionals plausibly describe the observed high-spin 12C+12C molecular resonances and predict many 0+ and 2+ resonances at low energies, which enhance the reaction rate. We also discuss how the uncertainty in the nuclear energy density functionals propagates to that of the reaction rate.

Microscopic investigation of one- and two-proton decay from the excited states of 10C

We present microscopic cluster model calculations for the 1p and 2p decays of the 0+2 and 2+2 states of 10C. With the R-matrix method, we have estimated the decay widths. The obtained 1p and 2p decay widths are in good agreement with the recent experimental data and support the validity of the di-proton approximation for the 2p decay of 10C(0+2). We also show the suppression of the 1p decay of the 10C(0+2) state due to the structure mismatch with the decay channel.

The study of the alpha formation probability in 10Be and 12Be within the microscopic cluster model

The alpha clustering in the 10Be and 12Be has been studied within the framework of the real-time evolution method (REM). By using the effective interaction tuned to reproduce the charge radii and the threshold energies, we have evaluated the alpha reduced width amplitude (RWA) and spectroscopic factor (S-factor) for the ground and excited states. With several improvements made in this work, comparing with our previous calculations, larger rate of clustering results are obtained for the 10Be and 12Be with correct asymptotic at large distance.

4$α$ linear-chain state produced by $^{9}$Be+$^{9}$Be collision

Extreme nuclear deformations provide great insight into the geometric formation of quantum many-body systems. In this work, the $4α+2n$ linear chain is assessed in $^{18}$O. We predict excitation energies, moment-of-inertia, $α$-, and $^{9}$Be-decay widths by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. We show that the $K^π=3^-$ linear-chain states may be verified by the head-on $^{9}{\rm Be}+{}^{9}{\rm Be}$ collision experiments.

Two-neutron halo structure and anti-halo effect in 31F

We perform a detailed analysis for the structure of 31F, which is a candidate of the halo nucleus. We calculate the radius and reaction cross-section using a three-body model of 29F+n+n and discuss how the competition between the neutron-pairing and the single-particle energy induces structural changes of 31F. The present analysis further clarifies a new aspect of the anti-halo efect that suppresses the halo structure.

$\mathbf{{}^{12}{C} + {}^{12}{C}}$ Fusion $\boldsymbol{S^*}$-factor from a Full-microscopic Nuclear Model

The ${}^{12}\mathrm{C} + {}^{12}\mathrm{C}$ fusion reaction plays a vital role in the explosive phenomena of the universe. The resonances in the Gamow window rule its reaction rate and products. Hence, the determination of the resonance parameters by nuclear models is indispensable as the direct measurement is not feasible. Here, for the first time, we report the resonances in the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C} + {}^{12}\mathrm{C}$ fusion reaction described by a full-microscopic nuclear model. The model plausibly reproduces the measured low-energy astrophysical $S$-factors and predicts the resonances in the Gamow window. Contradictory to the hindrance model, we conclude that there is no low-energy suppression of the $S$-factor.

Unexpectedly enhanced $α$-particle preformation in $^{48}$Ti probed by the $(p,pα)$ reaction

The formation of $α$ particle on nuclear surface has been a fundamental problem since the early age of nuclear physics. It strongly affects the $α$ decay lifetime of heavy and superheavy elements, level scheme of light nuclei, and the synthesis of the elements in stars. However, the $α$-particle formation in medium-mass nuclei has been poorly known despite its importance. Here, based on the $^{48}{\rm Ti}(p,pα)^{44}{\rm Ca}$ reaction analysis, we report that the $α$-particle formation in a medium-mass nucleus $^{48}{\rm Ti}$ is much stronger than that expected from a mean-field approximation, and the estimated average distance between $α$ particle and the residue is as large as 4.5 fm. This new result poses a challenge of describing four nucleon correlations by microscopic nuclear models.

A variety of clustering in $^{18}$O

We investigate excited states of $^{18}$O by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. It is found that five different types of cluster states exist which we call ${}^{14}{\rm C}+α$, higher-nodal ${}^{14}{\rm C}+α$, two molecular states, and $4α$ linear-chain. The calculated $α$-decay widths are compared with the observed data. The higher-nodal ${}^{14}{\rm C}+α$ cluster states reasonably agree with resonances reported by the recent experiments. We predict that the $α$-particle emission is dominant for the ${}^{14}{\rm C}+α$ cluster states while the molecular states prefer the $^{6}$He emission.

Quantitative description of the $^{20}$Ne($p$,$pα$)$^{16}$O cross section as a means of probing the surface $α$ amplitude

The proton-induced $α$ knockout reaction has been utilized for decades to investigate the $α$ cluster states of nuclei, of the ground state in particular. However, even in recent years, it is reported that the deduced $α$ spectroscopic factors from $α$ knockout experiments and reaction analyses with a phenomenological $α$ cluster wave function diverge depending on the kinematical condition of the reaction. In the present study we examine the theoretical description of the $^{20}$Ne($p$,$pα$)$^{16}$O cross section based on the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics and the distorted wave impulse approximation by comparing with existing experimental data. We also investigate the correspondence between the $α$ cluster wave function and the $α$ knockout cross section. The existing $^{20}$Ne($p$,$pα$)$^{16}$O data at 101.5 MeV is well reproduced by the present framework. Due to the peripherality of the reaction, the surface region of the cluster wave function is selectively reflected to the knockout cross section. A quantitatively reliable $α$ cluster wave function, $p$-$α$ cross section, and distorting potentials between scattering particles, $α$-$^{16}$O in particular, are crucial for the quantitative description of the ($p$,$pα$) cross section. Due to the peripherality of the reaction, the ($p$,$pα$) cross section is a good probe for the surface $α$ amplitude.

$\bf ^{12}{C} + {}^{16}{O}$ molecular resonances at deep sub-barrier energy

The existence of $^{12}{\rm C} + {}^{16}{\rm O}$ molecular resonances at sub-barrier energy has been a significant problem in nuclear astrophysics because they strongly affect the $^{12}{\rm C} + {}^{16}{\rm O}$ fusion reaction rate in type Ia supernovae and heavy stars. However, experimental surveys have been limited to 4~MeV and cannot access the deep sub-barrier energy due to a very small fusion cross section. Here we predict a couple of resonances with $J^π=0^+$, $2^+$, and $4^+$ in the deep sub-barrier energy based on the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics calculation that reproduces the known resonances and low-lying spectrum of $^{28}{\rm Si}$.

Nonlocalized motion in two-dimensional container of $α$ particles in $3^-$ and $4^-$ states of $^{12}$C

The first $3^-$ and $4^-$ states of $^{12}$C are studied in the present container model, in which the shift parameter is introduced to break the parity symmetry for projecting out the negative-parity states. Taking the limit as the shift parameter approaches zero and by variational calculations for one-deformed size parameter, the local energy minima are obtained for the $3^-$ and $4^-$ states. It is found that the obtained single THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave functions for $3^-$ and $4^-$ states are 96% and 92% equivalent to the corresponding GCM wave functions, respectively. The calculated intrinsic densities further show that these negative-parity states of three clusters, different with the traditional understanding of rigid triangle structure, are found to have nonlocalized clustering structure in the two-dimensional container picture.

Characteristic αand ^{6}He decays of the linear-chains in ^{16}C

The linear-chain states of $^{16}$C and their decay modes are theoretically investigated by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. It is found that the positive-parity linear-chain states have the $(3/2^-_π)^2(1/2^-_σ)^2$ configuration and primary decay to the $^{12}$Be($2^+_1$) as well as to the $^{12}$Be(g.s.) by the $α$ particle emission. Moreover, we show that they also decay to the $^6{\rm He}+{}^{10}{\rm Be}$ channel. In the negative-parity states, it is found that two types of the linear-chains exist. One has the valence neutrons occupying the molecular-orbits $(3/2^-_π)^2(1/2^-_σ)(3/2^+_π)$, while the other's configuration cannot be explained in terms of the molecular orbits because of the strong parity mixing. Both configurations constitute the rotational bands with large moment of inertia and intra-bands $E2$ transitions. Their $α$ and ${}^{6}{\rm He}$ reduced widths are sufficiently large to be distinguished from other non-cluster states although they are smaller than those of the positive-parity linear-chain.

2$α$+$t$ cluster structure in $^{11}$B

The 2$α+t$ cluster structure in $^{11}$B is investigated by the microscopic generator coordinate method (GCM) with the Brink cluster wave functions. With a proper choice of the parameters of the effective interaction, the calculated energy spectrum shows reasonable agreement with the observed low-lying spectra of both parities. On the basis of the calculated radii, monopole and $B(E2)$ transition strengths, several developed cluster states of $^{11}$B are suggested. For the negative-parity states, in addition to the well-known $3/2_3^-$ cluster state, the $1/2_2^-$ and $5/2_3^-$ states are also proposed as the well-developed cluster states. For the positive-parity states, it is found that many states around the 2$α+t$ threshold show the feature of developed clusters. In particular, the $1/2_2^+$ state is found to have a linear-chain-like structure, which is consistent with the previous antisymmetrized molecular dynamics calculation, but contradicts to the orthogonality condition model calculation. It is also found that many of these positive-parity cluster candidates have the non-negligible isoscalar dipole transition strengths, which require the experimental confirmation.

Laplace expansion method for the calculation of the reduced width amplitudes

We derive the equations to calculate the reduced width amplitudes (RWA) of the different size clusters and deformed clusters without any approximation. These equations named Laplace expansion method are applicable to the nuclear models which uses the Gaussian wave packets. The advantage of the method is demonstrated by the numerical calculations of the ${}^{16}{\rm O}+α$ and ${}^{24}{\rm Mg}+α$ RWAs in $^{20}{\rm Ne}$ and $^{28}{\rm Si}$.

Three-body decay of linear-chain states in $^{14}$C

The decay properties of the linear-chain states in $^{14}$C are investigated by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The calculation predicts two rotational bands with linear-chain configurations having the $π$-bond and $σ$-bond valence neutrons. For the $π$-bond linear-chain, the calculated excitation energies and the widths of $α$-decay to the ground state of $^{10}{\rm Be}$ reasonably agree with the experimental candidates observed by the $α+{}^{10}{\rm Be}$ resonant scattering. On the other hand, the $σ$-bond linear-chain is the candidate of the higher-lying resonant states reported by the break-up reaction. As the evidence of the $σ$-bond linear-chain, we discuss its decay pattern. It is found that the $σ$-bond linear-chain not only decays to the excited band of $^{10}{\rm Be}$ but also decays to the three-body channel of $^{6}{\rm He}+α+α$, and the branching ratio of these decays are comparable. Hence, we suggest that this characteristic decay pattern is a strong signature of the linear-chain formation and a key observable to distinguish two different linear-chains.

Impurity effects of $Λ$ particle on the 2$α$ cluster states of $^{9}$Be and $^{10}$Be

The low-lying structure of $^{10}_Λ$Be and $^{11}_Λ$Be are investigated within the framework of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. We focus on the modifications of the excitation spectra and dynamical changes of the 2$α$ cluster structure caused by a $Λ$ particle as an impurity in these hypernuclei. It is found that the excitation energies of well-pronounced cluster states are largely shifted up by the addition of a $Λ$ particle. Furthermore, we also find that the 2$α$ cluster structure is significantly changed in the excited states, whereas it is almost unchanged in the ground states.
