The geometric measure of entanglement for a symmetric pure state with positive amplitudes

In this paper for a class of symmetric multiparty pure states we consider a conjecture related to the geometric measure of entanglement: 'for a symmetric pure state, the closest product state in terms of the fidelity can be chosen as a symmetric product state'. We show that this conjecture is true for symmetric pure states whose amplitudes are all non-negative in a computational basis. The more general conjecture is still open.

The power of symmetric extensions for entanglement detection

In this paper, we present new progress on the study of the symmetric extension criterion for separability. First, we show that a perturbation of order O(1/N) is sufficient and, in general, necessary to destroy the entanglement of any state admitting an N Bose symmetric extension. On the other hand, the minimum amount of local noise necessary to induce separability on states arising from N Bose symmetric extensions with Positive Partial Transpose (PPT) decreases at least as fast as O(1/N^2). From these results, we derive upper bounds on the time and space complexity of the weak membership problem of separability when attacked via algorithms that search for PPT symmetric extensions. Finally, we show how to estimate the error we incur when we approximate the set of separable states by the set of (PPT) N -extendable quantum states in order to compute the maximum average fidelity in pure state estimation problems, the maximal output purity of quantum channels, and the geometric measure of entanglement.

A complete criterion for separability detection

Using new results on the separability properties of bosonic systems, we provide a new complete criterion for separability. This criterion aims at characterizing the set of separable states from the inside by means of a sequence of efficiently solvable semidefinite programs. We apply this method to derive arbitrarily good approximations to the optimal measure-and-prepare strategy in generic state estimation problems. Finally, we report its performance in combination with the criterion developed by Doherty et al. [1] for the calculation of the entanglement robustness of a relevant family of quantum states whose separability properties were unknown.

From Bell Inequalities to Tsirelson's Theorem: A Survey

The first part of this paper contains an introduction to Bell inequalities and Tsirelson's theorem for the non-specialist. The next part gives an explicit optimum construction for the "hard" part of Tsirelson's theorem. In the final part we describe how upper bounds on the maximal quantum violation of Bell inequalities can be obtained by an extension of Tsirelson's theorem, and survey very recent results on how exact bounds may be obtained by solving an infinite series of semidefinite programs.

Two-way classical communication remarkably improves local distinguishability

We analyze the difference in the local distinguishability among the following three restrictions; (i) Local operations and only one-way classical communications (one-way LOCC) are permitted. (ii) Local operations and two-way classical communications (two-way LOCC) are permitted. (iii) All separable operations are permitted. We obtain two main results concerning the discrimination between a given bipartite pure state and the completely mixed state with the condition that the given state should be detected perfectly. As the first result, we derive the optimal discrimination protocol for a bipartite pure state in the cases (i) and (iii). As the second result, by constructing a concrete two-way local discrimination protocol, it is proven that the case (ii) is much better than the case (i), i.e., two-way classical communication remarkably improves the local distinguishability in comparison with one-way classical communication at least for a low-dimensional bipartite pure state.

ε-convertibility of entangled states and extension of Schmidt rank in infinite-dimensional systems

By introducing the concept of $ε$-convertibility, we extend Nielsen's and Vidal's theorems to the entanglement transformation of infinite-dimensional systems. Using an infinite-dimensional version of Vidal's theorem we derive a new stochastic-LOCC (SLOCC) monotone which can be considered as an extension of the Schmidt rank. We show that states with polynomially-damped Schmidt coefficients belong to a higher rank of entanglement class in terms of SLOCC convertibility. For the case of Hilbert spaces of countable, but infinite dimensionality, we show that there are actually an uncountable number of classes of pure non-interconvertible bipartite entangled states.

Local copying and local discrimination as a study for non-locality of a set

We focus on the non-locality concerning local copying and local discrimination, especially for a set of orthogonal maximally entangled states in prime dimensional systems, as a study of non-locality of a set of states. As a result, for such a set, we completely characterize deterministic local copiability and show that local copying is more difficult than local discrimination. From these result, we can conclude that lack algebraic symmetry causes extra non-locality of a set.

Local copying of orthogonal maximally entangled states and its relationship to local discrimination

In the quantum system, perfect copying is impossible without prior knowledge. But, perfect copying is possible, if it is known that unknown states to be copied is contained by the set of orthogonal states, which is called the copied set. However, if our operation is limited to local operations and classical communications, this problem is not trivial. Recently, F. Anselmi, A. Chefles and M.B. Plenio constructed theory of local copying when the copied set consists of maximally entangled states. They also classified the copied set when it consists of two orthogonal states (New. J. Phys. 6, 164 (2004)). In this paper, we completely classify the copied set of local copying of the maximally entangled states in the prime dimensional system. That is, we prove that, in the prime dimensional system, the set of locally copiable maximally entangled states is equivalent to the set of Simultaneously Schmidt decomposable canonical form Bell states. As a result, we conclude that local copying of maximally entangled states is much more difficult than local discrimination at least in prime dimensional systems.

Entanglement convertibility for infinite dimensional pure bipartite states

It is shown that the order property of pure bipartite states under SLOCC (stochastic local operations and classical communications) changes radically when dimensionality shifts from finite to infinite. In contrast to finite dimensional systems where there is no pure incomparable state, the existence of infinitely many mutually SLOCC incomparable states is shown for infinite dimensional systems even under the bounded energy and finite information exchange condition. These results show that the effect of the infinite dimensionality of Hilbert space, the ``infinite workspace'' property, remains even in physically relevant infinite dimensional systems.

Existence of incomparable pure bipartite states in infinite dimensional systems

Based on set theoretic ordering properties, a general formulation for constructing a pair of convertibility monotones, which are generalizations of distillable entanglement and entanglement cost, is presented. The new pair of monotones do not always coincide for pure bipartite infinite dimensional states under SLOCC (stochastic local operations and classical communications), demonstrating the existence of SLOCC incomparable pure bipartite states, a new property of entanglement in infinite dimensional systems, with no counterpart in the corresponding finite dimensional systems.
