Spinorial Structure of $O(3)$ and Application to Dark Matter

An $O(3)$ spinor, $Φ$, as a doublet denoted by ${\bf 2}_D$ consists of an $SO(3)$ spinor, $ϕ$, and its complex conjugate, $ϕ^\ast$, which form $Φ=\left(ϕ,ϕ^\ast\right)^T$ to be identified with a Majorana-type spinor of $O(4)$. The four gamma matrices $Γ_μ$ ($μ=1\sim 4$) are given by $Γ_i=\text{diag.}\left(τ_i,τ^\ast_i\right)$ ($i=1,2,3$) and $Γ_4=-τ_2\otimesτ_2$, where $τ_i$ denote the Pauli matrices. The rotations and axis-reflections of $O(3)$ are, respectively, generated by $Σ_{ij}$ and $Σ_{i4}$, where $Σ_{μν}=[Γ_μ,Γ_ν]/2i$. While $Φ$ is regarded as a scalar, a fermionic $O(3)$ spinor is constructed out of an $SO(3)$ doublet Dirac spinor and its charge conjugate. These $O(3)$ spinors are restricted to be neutral and cannot carry the standard model quantum numbers because they contain particles and antiparticles. Our $O(3)$ spinors serve as candidates of dark matter. The $O(3)$ symmetry in particle physics is visible when the invariance of interactions is considered by explicitly including their complex conjugates. It is possible to introduce a dark gauge symmetry based on $SO(3)\times\boldsymbol{Z}_2$ equivalent to $O(3)$, where the $\boldsymbol{Z}_2$ parity is described by a $U(1)$ charge giving 1 for a particle and $-1$ for an antiparticle. The $SO(3)$ and $U(1)$ gauge bosons turn out to transform as the axial vector of $O(3)$ and the pseudoscalar of $O(3)$, respectively. This property is related to the consistent definition of the nonabelian field strength tensor of $O(3)$ or of the U(1) charge of the O(3)-transformed spinor. To see the feasibility of our dark matter models, we discuss scalar dark matter phenomenology based on the dark $U(1)$ gauge model.

Spinor Representation of $O(3)$ for $S_4$

All possible permutations in the discrete $S_4$ group are classified by three rotation angles associated with the orthogonal group $O(3)$. We construct a spinor representation ${\bf 2}_D$ of $O(3)$, which is transformed by three 4$\times$4 matrices corresponding to three Pauli matrices in $SO(3)$. An irreducible decomposition of ${\bf 2}_D \otimes {\bf 2}_D$ supplies a vector representation of {\bf 3} of $O(3)$, thereby, of $S_4$. Our construction is consistent with the mathematical fact that $O(3)=SO(3)\times \boldsymbol{Z}_2$. The $\boldsymbol{Z}_2$ parity in the spinorial space is described by a block off-diagonal matrix as the spinorial parity operator, whose eigenvalues are $\pm 1$ consistent with $\boldsymbol{Z}_2$.

Parafermionic dark mater

To discuss the possible contribution of parafermions to the dark matter abundance, we extend the Boltzmann equation for fermionic dark matter to include parafermions. Parafermions can accommodate $r$ particles per quantum state $(2\le r<\infty)$, where the parafermion of order $r=1$ is identical to the ordinary fermion. It is found that the parafermionic dark matter can be more abundant than the fermionic dark matter in the present universe.

Seesaw model and two zero flavor neutrino texture

In the two zero flavor neutrino mass matrix scheme with nonvanishing Majorana effective mass $M_{ee}$ for the neutrino less double beta decay, four textures are compatible with observed data. We obtain the complete list of the possible textures of four zero Dirac neutrino mass matrix $m_D$ in the seesaw mechanism providing these four flavor neutrino textures. Explicit analytical analysis of $m_D$ turns out to provide the relation of $m_D \propto \sqrt{M_{ee}}$.

Maximal CP Violation in Minimal Seesaw Model

In the minimal seesaw model, we derive required constraints on Dirac neutrino masses inducing maximal CP violation in neutrino oscillations. If the maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing is further assumed, Dirac neutrino masses are uniquely determined to respect $μ$-$τ$ flavored CP symmetry for neutrinos.

Maximal CP Violation in Flavor Neutrino Masses

Since flavor neutrino masses $M_{μμ,ττ,μτ}$ can be expressed in terms of $M_{ee,eμ,eτ}$, mutual dependence among $M_{μμ,ττ,μτ}$ is derived by imposing some constraints on $M_{ee,eμ,eτ}$. For appropriately imposed constraints on $M_{ee,eμ,eτ}$, we show a texture of neutrino mass matrix giving rise to maximal CP violation. When the atmospheric neutrino mixing is also maximal, we discuss various specific textures of neutrino mass matrices including the texture with $M_{ττ}=M^\ast_{μμ}$ derived as the simplest solution to the constraint of $M_{ττ}-M_{μμ}$=imaginary, which is required by the constraint of $M_{eμ}\cosθ_{23}-M_{eτ}\sinθ_{23}$=real for $\cos 2θ_{23}=0$. It is found that Majorana CP violation depends on the phase of $M_{ee}$.

$S_{2L}$ permutation symmetry for left-handed $μ$ and $τ$ families and neutrino oscillations in an $SU(3)_L \times U(1)_N$ gauge model

We construct an $SU(3)_L \times U(1)_N$ gauge model based on an $S_{2L}$ permutation symmetry for left-handed $μ$ and $τ$ families, which provides the almost maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and the large solar neutrino mixing of the LMA type. Neutrinos acquire one-loop radiative masses induced by the radiative mechanism of the Zee type as well as tree level masses induced by the type II seesaw mechanism utilizing interactions of lepton triplets with an SU(3)-sextet scalar. The atmospheric neutrino mixing controlled by the tree-level and radiative masses turns out to be almost maximal owing to the presence of $S_{2L}$ supplemented by a $Z_4$ discrete symmetry. These symmetries ensure the almost equality between the $ν_e$-$ν_μ$ and $ν_e$-$ν_τ$ radiative masses dominated by contributions from heavy leptons contained in the third members of lepton triplets, whose Yukawa interactions conserve $S_{2L}$, even after the spontaneous breaking. The solar neutrino mixing controlled by radiative masses including a $ν_μ$-$ν_τ$ mass, which are taken to be the similar order, turns out to be described by large solar neutrino mixing angles.
