Integrability of Discrete Equations Modulo a Prime

We apply the 'almost good reduction' (AGR) criterion, which has been introduced in our previous (arXiv:1206.4456 and arXiv:1209.0223), to several classes of discrete integrable equations. We verify our conjecture that AGR plays the same role for maps of the plane define over simple finite fields as the notion of the singularity confinement does. We first prove that q-discrete analogues of the Painlevé III and IV equations have AGR. We next prove that the Hietarinta-Viallet equation, a non-integrable chaotic system also has AGR.

Discrete Integrable Equations over Finite Fields

Discrete integrable equations over finite fields are investigated. The indeterminacy of the equation is resolved by treating it over a field of rational functions instead of the finite field itself. The main discussion concerns a generalized discrete KdV equation related to a Yang-Baxter map. Explicit forms of soliton solutions and their periods over finite fields are obtained. Relation to the singularity confinement method is also discussed.

Discrete Painleve II equation over finite fields

We investigate the discrete Painleve II equation over finite fields. We treat it over local fields and observe that it has a property that is similar to the good reduction over finite fields. We can use this property, which seems to be an arithmetic analogue of singularity confinement, to avoid the indeterminacy of the equations over finite fields and to obtain special solutions from those defined originally over fields of characteristic zero.

Soliton solutions of a generalized discrete KdV equation

We investigate the multi-soliton solutions to the generalized discrete KdV equation. In some cases a soliton with smaller amplitude moves faster than that with larger amplitude unlike the soliton solutions of the KdV equation. This phenomenon is intuitively understood from its ultradiscrete limit, where the system turns to the box ball system with a carrier. The generalized periodic ultradiscrete KdV equation and its background solutions

We investigate the ultradiscrete KdV equation with periodic boundary conditions where the two parameters (capacity of the boxes and that of the carrier) are arbitrary integers. We give a criterion to allow a periodic boundary condition when initial states take arbitrary integer values. Conserved quantities are constructed for the periodic systems. Construction of background solutions of the periodic ultradiscrete KdV equation from the Jacobi theta function is also presented.

Conserved quantities and generalized solutions of the ultradiscrete KdV equation

We construct generalized solutions to the ultradiscrete KdV equation, including the so-called negative solition solutions. The method is based on the ultradiscretization of soliton solutions to the discrete KdV equation with gauge transformation. The conserved quantities of the ultradiscrete KdV equation are shown to be constructed in a similar way to those for the box-ball system.
