Five benefits of grand unified $SU(5)$ brane world scenario

We construct an $SU(5)$ Grand Unified Theory on domain walls in the five-dimensional space-time. In this setup, we introduce an adjoint scalar field and a singlet that together form a set of five domain-wall solutions, realizing a dynamical brane-world. The same scalar fields also localize chiral fermion zero modes around the walls via the Jackiw-Rebbi mechanism, break $SU(5)$ down to the Standard Model gauge group via geometric Higgs mechanism and simultaneously trap gauge fields through a field-dependent gauge kinetic term. Furthermore, they enable localization of the Higgs field, providing a novel solution to the doublet-triplet splitting problem. As a result, all essential ingredients of the model are realized by a single adjoint scalar field and a singlet, making the construction very economical. We propose two realizations of the Higgs sector, derive the four-dimensional effective theory, and demonstrate that the Standard Model Yukawa couplings at the weak scale can be reproduced from the five-dimensional Yukawa couplings by the renormalization group analysis with a suitable choice of parameters.

Disentangling new physics with quantum entanglement in $t\bar{t}$ production at future lepton colliders

We investigate quantum entanglement and Bell-inequality violation in top-antitop pair production at future lepton colliders such as the International Linear Collider (ILC) and multi-TeV muon colliders. Within the Standard Model (SM), the process proceeds through $s$-channel $\gamma$ and $Z$ exchange and exhibits characteristic spin-correlation patterns that encode a non-trivial amount of entanglement. We then examine how these features are modified in several well-motivated extensions of the SM:(i) a neutral scalar mediator that couples to charged leptons and top quarks via Yukawa interactions and contributes as an additional $s$-channel exchange; (ii) the minimal gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ model, which introduces a new neutral gauge boson $Z'$ coupling vectorially to SM fermions; and (iii) a Randall-Sundrum scenario, in which the exchange of massive Kaluza-Klein gravitons arising from a warped extra dimension induces additional spin-dependent interactions. For all cases, we evaluate quantum-information observables, including the entanglement marker, the concurrence, and the maximal Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt parameter, and study their dependence on the center-of-mass energy, scattering angle, and model parameters. We find that, relative to the SM expectation, the entanglement is typically reduced in the scalar-mediator scenario, while sizable deviations can arise in the $U(1)_{B-L}$ and Randall-Sundrum cases for phenomenologically relevant regions of parameter space. These results demonstrate the potential of quantum-information observables as sensitive probes of new particles and their interaction patterns in future lepton colliders.

Construction of special Lagrangian submanifolds of the Taub-NUT manifold and the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold

We construct special Lagrangian submanifolds of the Taub-NUT manifold and the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold by combining the generalized Legendre transform approach and the moment map technique. The generalized Legendre transform approach provides a formulation to construct hyperk\"ahler manifolds and can make their Calabi-Yau structures manifest. In this approach, the K\"ahler $2$-forms and the holomorphic volume forms can be written in terms of holomorphic coordinates, which are convenient to employ the moment map technique. This technique derives the condition that a submanifold in the Calabi-Yau manifold is special Lagrangian. For the Taub-NUT manifold and the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold, by the moment map technique, special Lagrangian submanifolds are obtained as a one-parameter family of the orbits corresponding to Hamiltonian action with respect to their K\"ahler 2-forms. The resultant special Lagrangian submanifolds have cohomogeneity-one symmetry. To demonstrate that our method is useful, we recover the conditions for the special Lagrangian submanifold of the Taub-NUT manifold which is invariant under the tri-holomorphic $U(1)$ symmetry. As new applications of our method, we construct special Lagrangian submanifolds of the Taub-NUT manifold and the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold which are invariant under the action of a Lie subgroup of $SO(3)$. In these constructions, our conditions for being special Lagrangian are expressed by ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with respect to the one-parameters. We numerically give solution curves for the ODEs which specify the special Lagrangian submanifolds for the above cases.

Revisiting Atiyah-Hitchin manifold in the generalized Legendre transform

We revisit construction of the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold in the generalized Legendre transform approach. This is originally studied by Ivanov and Rocek and is subsequently investigated more by Ionas, in the latter of which the explicit forms of the Kähler potential and the Kähler metric are calculated. There is a difference between the former and the latter. In the generalized Legendre transform approach, a Kähler potential is constructed from the contour integration of one function with holomorphic coordinates. The choice of the contour in the latter is different from the former's one, whose difference may yield a discrepancy in the Kähler potential and eventually in the Kähler metric. We show that the former only gives the real Kähler potential, which is consistent with its definition, while the latter yields the complex one. We derive the Kähler potential and the metric for the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold in terms of holomorphic coordinates for the contour considered by Ivanov and Roček for the first time.

SM gauge fields localized on non-Abelian vortices in 6 dimensions

A brane-world $SU(5)$ GUT model with global non-Abelian vortices is constructed in six-dimensional spacetime. We find a solution with a vortex associated to $SU(3)$ separated from another vortex associated to $SU(2)$. This $3-2$ split configuration achieves a geometric Higgs mechanism for $SU(5)\to SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ symmetry breaking. A simple deformation potential induces a domain wall between non-Abelian vortices, leading to a linear confining potential. The confinement stabilizes the vortex separation moduli, and assures the vorticity of $SU(3)$ group and of $SU(2)$ group to be identical. This dictates the equality of the numbers of fermion zero modes in the fundamental representation of $SU(3)$ (quarks) and of $SU(2)$ (leptons), leading to quark-lepton generations. The standard model massless gauge fields are localized on the non-Abelian vortices thanks to a field-dependent gauge kinetic function. We perform fluctuation analysis with an appropriate gauge fixing and obtain a four-dimensional effective Lagrangian of unbroken and broken gauge fields at quadratic order. We find that $SU(3) \times SU(2) \times U(1)$ gauge fields are localized on the vortices and exactly massless. Complications in analyzing the spectra of gauge fields with the nontrivial gauge kinetic function are neatly worked out by a vector-analysis like method.

Higgs-Portal Dark Matter in Nonlinear MSSM

Supersymmetric (SUSY) extension of the Standard Model (SM) is a primary candidate for new physics beyond the SM. If SUSY breaking scale is very low, for example, the multi-TeV range, and the SUSY breaking sector, except for the goldstino (gravitino), is decoupled from the low energy spectrum, the hidden sector effect in the minimal SUSY SM (MSSM) is well described by employing the goldstino chiral superfield ($X$) with the nilpotent condition of $X^2=0$. Although this so-called "nonlinear MSSM" (NL-MSSM) provides a variety of interesting phenomenologies, there is a cosmological problem that the lightest superpartner gravitino is too light to be the major component of the dark matter (DM) in our universe. To solve this problem, we propose a minimal extension of the NL-MSSM by introducing a parity-odd SM singlet chiral superfield ($Φ$). We show that the interaction of the scalar component in $Φ$ with the MSSM Higgs doublets is induced after eliminating F-component of the goldstino superfield and the lightest real scalar in $Φ$ plays the role of the Higgs-portal DM. With a suitable choice of the model parameters, a successful Higgs-portal DM scenario can be realized while achieving the SM-like Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV from the tree-level Higgs potential through the multi-TeV SUSY breaking effect.

Massless bosons on domain walls: Jackiw-Rebbi-like mechanism for bosonic fields

It is important to obtain (nearly) massless localized modes for the low-energy four-dimensional effective field theory in the brane-world scenario. We propose a mechanism for bosonic zero modes using the field-dependent kinetic function in the classical field theory set-up. As a particularly simple case, we consider a domain wall in five dimensions, and show that massless states for scalar (0-form), vector (1-form), and tensor (2-form) fields appear on a domain wall, which may be called topological because of robustness of their existence (insensitive to continuous deformations of parameters). The spin of localized massless bosons is selected by the shape of the nonlinear kinetic function, analogously to the chirality selection of fermion by the well-known Jackiw-Rebbi mechanism. Several explicitly solvable examples are given. We consider not only (anti)BPS domain walls in non-compact extra dimension but also non-BPS domain walls in compact extra dimension.

Localization of the Standard Model via Higgs mechanism and a finite electroweak monopole from non-compact five dimensions

We propose a minimal and self-contained model in non-compact flat five dimensions which localizes the Standard Model (SM) on a domain wall. Localization of gauge fields is achieved by the condensation of Higgs field via a Higgs dependent gauge kinetic term in five-dimensional Lagrangian. The domain wall connecting vacua with unbroken gauge symmetry drives the Higgs condensation which provides both electroweak symmetry breaking and gauge field localization at the same time. Our model predicts higher-dimensional interactions $|H|^{2n}(F_{μν})^2$ in the low-energy effective theory. This leads to two expectations: The one is a new tree-level contribution to $H \to γγ$ ($H \to gg$) decay whose signature is testable in future LHC experiment. The other is a finite electroweak monopole which may be accessible to the MoEDAL experiment. Interactions of translational Nambu-Goldstone boson is shown to satisfy a low-energy theorem.

Localized non-Abelian gauge fields in non-compact extra-dimensions

Dynamical localization of non-Abelian gauge fields in non-compact flat $D$ dimensions is worked out. The localization takes place via a field-dependent gauge kinetic term when a field condenses in a finite region of spacetime. Such a situation typically arises in the presence of topological solitons. We construct four-dimensional low-energy effective Lagrangian up to the quadratic order in a universal manner applicable to any spacetime dimensions. We devise an extension of the $R_ξ$ gauge to separate physical and unphysical modes clearly. Out of the D-dimensional non-Abelian gauge fields, the physical massless modes reside only in the four-dimensional components, whereas they are absent in the extra-dimensional components. The universality of non-Abelian gauge charges holds due to the unbroken four-dimensional gauge invariance. We illustrate our methods with models in $D=5$ (domain walls), in $D=6$ (vortices), and in $D=7$.

Grand Unified Brane World Scenario

We present a field theoretical model unifying grand unified theory (GUT) and brane world scenario. As a concrete example, we consider $SU(5)$ GUT in 4+1 dimensions where our 3+1 dimensional spacetime spontaneously arises on five domain walls. A field-dependent gauge kinetic term is used to localize massless non-Abelian gauge fields on the domain walls and to assure the charge universality of matter fields. We find the domain walls with the symmetry breaking $SU(5)\to SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ as a global minimum and all the undesirable moduli are stabilized with the mass scale of $M_{\rm GUT}$. Profiles of massless Standard Model particles are determined as a consequence of wall dynamics. The proton decay can be exponentially suppressed.

Special Lagrangian submanifolds and cohomogeneity one actions on the complex projective space

We construct examples of cohomogeneity one special Lagrangian submanifolds in the cotangent bundle over the complex projective space, whose Calabi-Yau structure was given by Stenzel. For each example, we describe the condition of special Lagrangian as an ordinary differential equation. Our method is based on a moment map technique and the classification of cohomogeneity one actions on the complex projective space classified by Takagi.

Thermal Inflation with Flaton Chemical Potential

Thermal inflation driven by a scalar field called "flaton" is a possible scenario to solve the cosmological moduli problem. We study a model of thermal inflation with a flaton chemical potential. In the presence of the chemical potential, a negative mass squared of the flaton, which is necessary to terminate the thermal inflation, is naturally induced. We identify the allowed parameter region for the chemical potential ($μ$) and the flaton self-coupling constant to solve the cosmological moduli problem and satisfy theoretical consistencies. In general, the chemical potential is a free parameter and it can be taken to be much larger than the typical scale of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters of $\mathcal{O} (1)$ TeV. For $μ\gtrsim 10^8$ GeV, we find that the reheating temperature after the thermal inflation can be high enough for the thermal leptogenesis scenario to be operative. This is in sharp contrast to the standard thermal inflation scenario, in which the reheating temperature is quite low and a special mechanism is necessary for generating sufficient amount of baryon asymmetry in the Universe after thermal inflation.

Non-Abelian Gauge Field Localization on Walls and Geometric Higgs Mechanism

Combining the semi-classical localization mechanism for gauge fields with $N$ domain wall background in a simple $SU(N)$ gauge theory in five space-time dimensions we investigate the geometric Higgs mechanism, where a spontaneous breakdown of the gauge symmetry comes from splitting of domain walls. The mass spectra are investigated in detail for the phenomenologically interesting case $SU(5) \to SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ which is realized on a split configuration of coincident triplet and doublet of domain walls. We derive a low energy effective theory in a generic background using the moduli approximation, where all non-linear interactions between effective fields are captured up to two derivatives. We observe novel similarities between domain walls in our model and D-branes in superstring theories.

BPS Boojums in N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories I

We study 1/4 Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) composite solitons of vortex strings, domain walls and boojums in ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Abelian gauge theories in four dimensions. We obtain solutions to the 1/4 BPS equations with the finite gauge coupling constant. To obtain numerical solutions for generic coupling constants, we construct globally correct approximate functions which allow us to easily find fixed points of gradient flow equations. We analytically/numerically confirm that the negative mass of a single boojum appearingat the endpoint of the vortex string on the logarithmically bent domain wall is equal to the half-mass of the 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole. We examine various configurations and clarify how the shape of the boojum depends on the coupling constants and moduli parameters. We also find analytic solutions to the 1/4 BPS equations for specific values of the coupling constants.

BPS Boojums in N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories II

We continue our study of 1/4 Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) composite solitons of vortex strings, domain walls and boojums in N=2 supersymmetric Abelian gauge theories in four dimensions. In this work, we numerically confirm that a boojum appearing at an end point of a string on a thick domain wall behaves as a magnetic monopole with a fractional charge in three dimensions. We introduce a "magnetic" scalar potential whose gradient gives magnetic fields. Height of the magnetic potential has a geometrical meaning that is shape of the domain wall. We find a semi-local extension of boojum which has an additional size moduli at an end point of a semi-local string on the domain wall. Dyonic solutions are also studied and we numerically confirm that the dyonic domain wall becomes an electric capacitor storing opposite electric charges on its skins. At the same time, the boojum becomes fractional dyon whose charge density is proportional to ${\vec E} \cdot {\vec B}$. We also study dual configurations with an infinite number of boojums and anti-boojums on parallel lines and analyze the ability of domain walls to store magnetic charge as magnetic capacitors. In understanding these phenomena, the magnetic scalar potential plays an important role. We study the composite solitons from the viewpoints of the Nambu-Goto and Dirac-Born-Infeld actions, and find the semi-local BIon as the counterpart of the semi-local Boojum.

Supersymmetry and Cotangent Bundle over Non-compact Exceptional Hermitian Symmetric Space

We construct N=2 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models on the cotangent bundles over the non-compact exceptional Hermitian symmetric spaces M=E_{6(-14)}/SO(10)xU(1) and E_{7(-25)}/E_6xU(1). In order to construct them we use the projective superspace formalism which is an N=2 off-shell superfield formulation in four-dimensional space-time. This formalism allows us to obtain the explicit expression of N=2 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models on the cotangent bundles over any Hermitian symmetric spaces in terms of the N=1 superfields, once the Kahler potentials of the base manifolds are obtained. We derive the N=1 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models on the Kahler manifolds M. Then we extend them into the N=2 supersymmetric models with the use of the result in arXiv:1211.1537 developed in the projective superspace formalism. The resultant models are the N=2 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models on the cotangent bundles over the Hermitian symmetric spaces M. In this work we complete constructing the cotangent bundles over all the compact and non-compact Hermitian symmetric spaces.

Supersymmetry and R-symmetry Breaking in Meta-stable Vacua at Finite Temperature and Density

We study a meta-stable supersymmetry-breaking vacuum in a generalized O'Raifeartaigh model at finite temperature and chemical potentials. Fields in the generalized O'Raifeartaigh model possess different R-charges to realize R-symmetry breaking. Accordingly, at finite density and temperature, the chemical potentials have to be introduced in a non-uniform way. Based on the formulation elaborated in our previous work we study the one-loop thermal effective potential including the chemical potentials in the generalized O'Raifeartaigh model. We perform a numerical analysis and find that the R-symmetry breaking vacua, which exist at zero temperature and zero chemical potential, are destabilized for some parameter regions. In addition, we find that there are parameter regions where new R-symmetry breaking vacua are realized even at high temperature by the finite density effects.
